Chapter 214: Colzen Convoy: Ambushed!
Chapter 214: Colzen Convoy: Ambushed!
Immediately after realizing that they were being ambushed, the deans and instructors swiftly burst out of the carriages.
They didn't know who was targeting them but they would never allow these bastards to murder their precious students.
"Kekeke, what a bunch of clowns. Do you think two rusty diamond-ranked adventurers could protect a bunch of chicks from five hungry tigers? Delusional!" a thin middle-aged adventurer clad in a full set of emerald-tier relics exclaimed. "Wolfe, Turner, Bjorn, Hakeem, get in position. Let's end this quickly and claim our reward as early as possible!"
From the words of the thin middle-aged man, it was evident that he was the leader of this small assassination party of five.
Crushing two communication talismans, the deans ordered the instructors to work together and try to hold back two assassins while they handled one assassin each.
Now, the problem is, could their representative party hold on long enough against the last assassin?
If they could do so until help from the deans or the instructors arrived, then it would be their win.
However, if they couldn't…then all of the students and probably some instructors would die as well.
The assassins didn't give them too much time to strategize, promptly springing into action by gripping their weapons tightly as they charged toward the Colzen representatives.
Naturally, the deans responded accordingly.
They intercepted two of the assassins: one warrior and one scout, allowing only three assassins to pass including the thin middle-aged man.
"Bakko! Leave these instructors to me and Wolfe, you go ahead and murder those youngsters!"
Hearing Bjorn ordering him around, the thin middle-aged man named Bakko was annoyed.
"Don't f*cking order me around, I know what to do!" exclaimed Bakko before leaping past the small group of instructors and into the midst of the young representatives, sporting a murderous smile on his face.
Realizing that they had to fight a diamond-ranked adventurer like Bakko for their lives, the faces of the Colzen seven turned stern.
They had to hold him off somehow or their entire convoy would be wiped out.
"Everyone, get in position! Here comes the scrawny old goat!" insulted Shye as he took out both of his greatswords from his inventory, causing a slight disturbance as the synergizing elements of water and lightning roared threateningly toward Bakko.
Hearing what the leader of the Colzen seven called him, Bakko was utterly infuriated—Veins popped out at the sides of his head— his old face turning beet red due to anger.
"A little twerp like you dares call me a scrawny old goat?! DIE!!" raged Bakko as he slashed his dagger at Shye who just finished receiving buffs from Wendy.
*CLANG*
A metallic sound reverberated across the pathway as Shye brandished his greatswords diagonally, effectively clashing against Bakko's emerald-tier dagger.
"Puhaahk!" Shockingly, it was Shye who was sent sliding back while spitting out blood, feeling his internal organs shake from Bakko's raw strength.
Initially, he thought that the old goat, Bakko, made a grave mistake by trying to face him in a direct confrontation.
Scouts were known to have way less strength compared to warriors after all.
However, he never thought that it would actually be him on the losing side of a head-on clash.
The old goat was so thin that he couldn't help but underestimate the guy's strength attribute.
"Hahahaha! Tell me, twerp. How embarrassed are you right now after losing to me, a scout, in a direct power comparison?" mocked Bakko as he playfully waited for Shye's furious answer.
"Hahaha! Well, I must admit, it's a bit embarrassing. However, it's certainly not as severe as the embarrassment of an old goat who has already lived through at least three goat lifetimes, yet still failed to defeat a youngster with a single blow." retorted Shye after receiving a timely heal from Wendy.
Unfortunately for Bakko, instead of deriving pleasure and joy from Shye's reply, what he ended up with was nothing but infuriation.
The twerp's mouth was simply too vicious!
Regretting the fact that he even allowed Shye to speak, Bakko disappeared for a few milliseconds before reappearing behind Shye with an outraged expression.
He then tried to stab the young hateful bastard to end his life in a single blow—just like what Shye wished for.
Unfortunately for him, Siegfried, who understood the ins and outs of combat, knew that he was gonna teleport behind Shye after receiving such a ruthless insult.
Therefore, he advanced and slashed at the air behind Shye, prompting Bakko, who had just reappeared, to choose between persisting with his attack on Shye and risking an attack from Siegfried, or abandoning the idea of attacking Shye and defending himself from Siegfried's assault.
Ultimately, Bakko decided to defend.
After all, it would be too humiliating for a fairly high-ranked professional adventurer like him to suffer a grievous wound from a graduating adventurer academy student.
*CLANG*
Astoundingly, although Bakko's block was hurried, a simple slight push from his dagger sent Siegfried sliding back—a resounding statement regarding the stark difference in strength between a high-ranking veteran and an upcoming rookie.
'Heh, unfortunately for you unripe youngsters, your naive attacks would never touch someone like me!' thought Bakko after stabilizing his footing.
Lost in his own thoughts, Bakko failed to realize that the Colzen seven was already in hunting formation—with him standing cluelessly in the middle.
"Bakko! What on earth are you doing?! Why haven't you killed a single one?!" raged Bjorn, upon realizing that their arrogant leader, Bakko, hadn't managed to kill a single representative from Colzen.
Previously, Bakko had told him to be quiet because he knew what he was doing; hence, he was infuriated upon witnessing Bakko's incompetence.
'If we fail here, I'm holding you fully accountable…you arrogant bastard…' thought Bjorn as he blocked a downward slash from Instructor Fienna.
Meanwhile, atop a cliff several hundred meters from the ongoing assassination stood a tall, well-built middle-aged man with handsome facial features.
He was adorned in a complete set of peak-tier warrior equipment, draped in a black and purple robe, observing the unfolding events with keen interest.
"Hoh? They're holding up pretty well…"
