Chapter 402 Overgrown Crystalline Nope
Chapter 402 Overgrown Crystalline Nope
Shye's solo journey was nothing short of spine-chillingly dangerous.
He not only encountered large groups of Bornocs but also encountered new aquatic creatures known as Scorpterois.
Although the Scorpterois shared some similarities with Bornocs in their fish-like appearance, they were distinctly different.
Unlike Bornocs, which stood on two legs and could be described as fish-men, Scorpterois moved on all fours, akin to the way lions do, marking a clear contrast between the two species.
Additionally, the fins, fangs, and teeth of Scorpterois were notably sharper than those of Bornocs.
Furthermore, the former boasted venomous spikes along their spines, heads, and tails, setting them apart in appearance, while their skin coloration was predominantly orange with prominent white stripes, starkly different from Bornocs who had red eyes and bluish-purple fish skin.
Finally, the most significant distinction lies in their fighting styles. Bornocs engaged in combat somewhat akin to a tribe of humans, whereas Scorpterois fought like untamed wild beasts.
Nonetheless, they were all easily slain by Shye, allowing him to gain a few extra points from the system's regular quests.
After traversing the harrowing pathways for a few hours alone, he eventually reached a peculiar area adorned with crimson crystals growing on the coral walls.
Before him lay an abyssal chasm, one that he couldn't simply leap or fly across, even with the assistance of his wings.
'How will I cross this damned place then?' Shye pondered with a frown.
The first route was acknowledged as the most challenging and perilous path on the seventh floor; nevertheless, it was also the most straightforward route to the eighth floor.
In fact, Shye could even spot the staircases on the opposite side of the chasm; only, he had no idea how to cross over to the other side.
'There must be some way to cross…'
Scanning his surroundings, Shye failed to discover any bridges or even precarious footholds that he could utilize to cross the abyss.
Still, he didn't give up, continuing to search every nook and cranny of the area for an hour before sighing in disappointment.
'Should I just go back and search for another route…'
Just as he was about to consider turning back, Shye inadvertently cast his gaze upward towards the crimson ceiling, adorned with numerous scarlet crystals.
'Oh?'
A plausible idea then suddenly dawned on him, bringing an excited smile to his face.
'How would I know if I don't try? Fallen's Wings!'
With a single flap of his rotten mana wings, Shye grabbed onto one of the crystal growths on the ceiling, nodding appreciatively at the fact that the crystal wasn't that hard to latch on to.
Then, he continued flapping his wings, grabbing onto the next crimson crystal and moving forward one…uhh…one flap at a time.
As Shye made rapid progress, he anticipated reaching the other side soon; however, he underestimated the vastness of the abyssal chasm.
Moreover, about halfway there, strong winds unexpectedly blew from the opposite side, gradually impeding his progress.
'Crap…at this rate…'
His [Fallen's Wings] would surely time out before he could reach the other side.
'Should I turn back?'
Shye was torn, yet his body continued moving forward. He also didn't want to stop now.
'My wings would probably dissipate when I'm three-fourths of the way…As for the remaining one-fourth of the distance, I shall trust myself!'
His body wasn't weak.
Slow as his progress might be once his wings time out, Shye believed he would make it to the other side.
Hence, with renewed determination, he advanced as fast as he could.
After all, the more distance he covered while under the safety of his wings, the quicker and safer the rest of the journey would be.
Half a minute later, his wings finally reached their limit, and as anticipated, he found himself approximately three-quarters of the way to the other side.

'Phew…Just a bit more…'
Carefully grabbing onto the nearest scarlet crystal growth, Shye continued moving forward, but this time, way slower.
Because of the powerful winds, Shye's eyes were narrowed as he peered ahead, unwilling to risk even a glance downward at the abyssal chasm beneath him.
Looking in no other direction than forward, Shye realized that something…was crawling towards him, its massive claws resembling crystals—latched deep onto the ceiling.
'T-There's just no f*cking way!' He inwardly cursed as slight panic crept into his heart.
He was in no position to fight!
'Appraisal!'
[Name]: Abyssal Roach

[Stamina: ???]
[Vitality: 270]:
[Wisdom: 10]
[Exit System]
Since there was no time for him to read through the creature's description and skills, Shye focused on its rank and its attributes instead.
Then, once he was done, he swiftly closed the system interface, revealing the creature in its full hideous glory.
It was a monstrous, scarlet-colored cockroach, overgrown and menacing. Its six legs were absurdly long, adorned with small crystal shards, and tipped with crystal claws, enabling it to move with unnerving ease across the ceiling.
To make things worse, the creature's attributes would surely pose quite a lot of trouble for Shye, who was barely hanging on.
Soon after, the long-legged abyss roach crawled unsettlingly towards Shye, baring its long mandibles at the helpless prey who dared cross its territory.
'F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! Why didn't I see it when I still had wings?!' Shye cursed inwardly as he tightly gripped a crimson crystal with his left hand, while his right hand firmly held the ruby-tier elemental staff.
'Fire Bomb Assault!'
Armed with 300 points of intelligence, Shye's flaming bombs were now way stronger than they initially were. Unfortunately, the overgrown crystal roach was rather nimble for its size.
Since it had already mastered fighting in its territory, as fast as Shye's projectiles traveled, quite a lot of them were dodged by the roach, allowing only three to cleanly land on its crystalline body.
Nonetheless, the few that landed caused immense damage to the roach, making it screech eerily in pain as the flaming projectiles exploded squarely on its body.
Witnessing the effects of his skills, hope returned to Shye's heart.
'I can take this bastard down!'
