Chapter 1017 Rescue

Jack peered through the glass at Mandy, her face still pale, with a whirlpool of mixed emotions in his eyes. It was the first time he realized how dangerous Mandy’s previous life had been. If she could get hurt this badly in Zyphoria, how many life-threatening situations had Mandy faced over the past years? Jack felt a tight knot in his heart. He thought the crisis was over, but to his shock, Mandy’s condition drastically worsened in the middle of the night. She not only spiked a fever but also slipped into shock multiple times. Doctors and nurses rushed into the room with medical equipment, swiftly initiating resuscitation efforts. Jack had never known just how agonizing waiting could be. Though the doctor and the nurses were constantly moving, it felt like only a few minutes had passed. “How could this happen?”

Seeing the attending doctor frown, Jack’s anxiety grew. His gaze clung desperately to Mandy, fearing that he might miss some ominous change if he looked away even for a second. His footsteps unintentionally led him to the door of the hospital room, longing to be by her side. A nurse blocked his attempt to rush into the room, explaining patiently, “Her injury is internal, so such complications are expected. We’ll do our utmost to stabilize her.” Yet Jack remained uneasy. He didn’t want to stand passively outside, watching her pale face as she was

being resurrected on the bed. He just wanted to be closer to her. Suddenly, Jack said, “If I wear sterile clothing, can I go in and see her? I just want to be closer to her. Maybe it would lift her spirits…” The nurse hesitated, looking at Jack’s earnest expression, then replied, “I can ask the doctor for you. Please wait.” The nurse quickly entered the room and whispered something to the attending doctor. The doctor glanced back at Jack, hesitating momentarily before nodding in agreement. Mandy’s condition was indeed critical, and perhaps having someone by her side to support her could be beneficial. Jack’s heart lifted, and he quickly followed the nurse to change clothes before re-entering the hospital room. “Don’t worry, she’s stable now and will be fine,” The nurse assured. Hearing the nurse’s words, Jack felt a weight lift off his chest. The room was thick with the scent of blood, making people feel a bit nauseous and uncomfortable. The nurse looked at Jack with concern, knowing that not everyone could handle such a scene their first time in a surgical room. But Jack was unfazed. The smell of blood did not affect him. His gaze remained unwaveringly on Mandy’s face as if he were looking at a priceless treasure. A treasure that he wouldn’t allow anyone to take from him. Nurses had seen countless family members of patients walking into the surgical room. Almost all of them showed some level of fear towards the surgery table. But Jack was different. His determination was unwavering, and nothing seemed to shake him.

“That’s it,” With those simple words from the attending doctor, it felt like Jack had been lifted from hell back to heaven. He finally let out a deep sigh of relief. Perhaps it was just his imagination, but Jack thought Mandy’s face seemed a bit rosier, and she appeared to have a touch livelier. Seeing him like this, the doctor let out a soft sigh, “Since you’re here, stay by her side. If she wakes up, immediately call us for a check-up.” Jack hadn’t expected this pleasant surprise and immediately agreed with joy
