“Ms. Jenkins, your nutritional supplements.” Rachel Whitman placed a small box containing medication in front of Lena, earning a speechless glance from Lena.
The day Rachel became Lena’s assistant, Gideon took the opportunity to have a conversation with her.
After that conversation, Rachel transformed from a regular assistant to an allaround assistant. Not only did she keep a close eye on Lena’s well-being, but she also reminded her to take medication and even paid attention to details like prenatal check-ups.
“What exactly did Gideon tell you?” Lena asked Rachel curiously while picking up the nutritional supplements from the table.
Rachel smiled openly, “Mr. McKinney was quite generous with my salary.”
To ensure Rachel took good care of Lena, Gideon doubled her current salary.
At this price, Rachel was able to handle anything, even if it were more complicated tasks.
Seeing her bright eyes, Lena couldn’t help but smile.
As long as Rachel didn’t feel stressed to do these things, Lena had no objections.
After work, instead of rushing to leave, Lena stared absentmindedly at the spectacular sunset outside her window.
It reminded her of the first time she met Gideon, on an evening much like this one.
It was at the beginning of a semester, and Lena had just secured the opportunity to study abroad. She was surrounded by things she had never encountered before, feeling uneasy and uncertain.
However, her inherent resilience drove her to maintain a calm exterior, concealing her inner turmoil.
On that evening, Lena’s phone malfunctioned, leaving her unable to pay for her meal. The cafeteria staff gave her a hard time, and it was Gideon who stepped forward to resolve the issue for her.
Although Gideon had long forgotten about this incident, Lena remembered it vividly. Perhaps it was this memory that made her less resistant to her subsequent interactions with Gideon.
At that time, Lena could never have imagined that she would end up being with Gideon today.
“Ms. Jenkins, do you need me to accompany you to the parking lot?” Rachel asked outside the office.
Lena smiled and shook her head, “Your parents are visiting today, right? I’ll be fine. Gideon will come to pick me up later.”
Although Rachel hurried to leave, thinking about how precious Lena was to
Gideon, she advised, “Then, please wait for him in the office, and don’t go downstairs alone.”
Lena chuckled silently at Rachel’s words as if their company were some kind of dangerous place. She nodded.
Only after Rachel left did Lena remember to check her phone. To her surprise, Gideon had sent her several messages an hour ago, explaining that
he had a last-minute meeting and would pick her up later.
After some consideration, Lena decided to head home on her own.
She sent a message to Gideon, quickly packed her things, and left.
It might be that, getting used to being accompanied by someone else, Lena felt the corridor was unusually empty today.
She unconsciously tightened her coat and hastened her steps.
