When Gideon came out of the City Hall, he was still staring at the license in his hand with disbelief.
Although they had been inside for less than half an hour, he and Lena had already become officially and legally married.
He turned his head to look at Lena, who smiled as bright as sunshine, compelling him to submit to her involuntarily.
“What are you looking at?” Lena asked with a laugh, amused by his unblinking gaze.
Gideon scooped her up in his arms, and Lena, accustomed to his behavior, naturally wrapped her arms around his neck.
It had to be said that thanks to Gideon’s unrelenting efforts, Lena had grown used to his frequent embraces.
At that moment, Gideon’s phone suddenly rang shrilly.
He glanced at the caller ID and furrowed his brows slightly.
“What’s wrong?” Lena asked, sensing his mood change and looking at him inquisitively.
Reluctantly, Gideon showed her the incoming call and said cautiously, “We might need to go see my mother first.”
Instinctively, Lena tensed, but Gideon quickly said, “It’s okay if you don’t want to go. After all, they don’t
know we are together right now.”
Lena glanced at the phone that kept ringing persistently and finally made a decision. “Let’s go and see her. After all, we are already married.”
It made sense for her to meet his parents, and since Gideon had never mentioned it, she pretended not to know the matter.
Gideon suddenly leaned in to hug her. “Thank you! They are going to love you!”
Lena offered a wry smile and said, “You better answer the call first.”
Only then did Gideon pick up the phone.
The person on the other end let out a cold chuckle. “I thought you had been kidnapped.”
“I just didn’t get a chance to answer,” Gideon explained helplessly.
“Whether you didn’t get a chance or didn’t want to answer, you should know better than me.” The person on the other end didn’t give Gideon a chance to explain, preemptively saying, “You have one hour to come back and explain to me. Otherwise…”
The call was cut off before the sentence was finished.
Clearly, this wasn’t the first time Gideon had been treated like this. He skillfully put away his phone and looked at Lena. “Don’t worry. We can take our time.”
Lena wasn’t nervous at all. For her, the hardest part had been making the decision to meet his parents.
Since she had made her decision, no matter how she would meet his parents, she was ready to accept it.
Gideon drove Lena to a residential district in the center of the city.
Lena had heard Charlotte mention this district before. It was inhabited by the rich and powerful, and the people simply having the money were unable to reside there.
She looked toward Gideon with some surprise. “You live here?”
The two had previously discussed their family backgrounds, and at the time,
Gideon had only mentioned that his family was involved in some small business and that their financial situation was not bad.
Lena had never imagined it would be so good.
Gideon guessed what she was thinking and quickly explained, “My parents have always been angry that I gave up on business to pursue architectural design. So, everything here belongs to them, and it has nothing to do with me.”
But even with his explanation, Lena was still shocked by this revelation.
She glanced at the gift she had prepared for his parents and wondered if what she had prepared was too modest.
