Watching his reaction, Lena dispelled her disappointment and said to Charlotte, “Don’t worry about him; the child is mine alone, and he has nothing to do with it.” Charlotte’s clear eyes carried a penetrating gaze, “But you obviously care.” Lena flushed and quickly changed the subject. At this moment, Gideon looked thoughtful as he stared at Lena. Was that the reason she had been refusing to accept his proposal? He thought about his own feelings and realized that he didn’t want to marry Lena just for the child. In fact, he didn’t care whether Lena had the child or not.
