Chapter 169: Sky High Price!

“Young master, the next item up for auction is the Fierce Specter War Chariot,” the woman in the white dress said gently.

“Okay,” Xu Disheng said. He stopped cultivating and went to the window, peering down at the auction below.

After two days of the auction had passed, the atmosphere of the auction-goers in the pagoda had thoroughly reached its peak. Many people had already gotten the things they wanted.

Quite a few people had left the Grand Erudition House early after achieving their objectives for coming.

But even more people were still silently waiting for the items they had set their heart on. They would quietly lie in wait, and strike out with an outrageous bid like a clap of thunder when their item came around.

“This is the Psychic Magic Treasure, the Fierce Specter War Chariot. It has five layers of seals on it. But if all five layers are unsealed, its might is enough to shock the heavens! Only a Divine Core stage Spirit Master would be able to demonstrate its full power. A Dao Foundation stage would only be able to undo three layers of the seal. Starting bid of 43,000 spirit stones.”

“Young master, would you like to place a bid?” the woman in the white dress asked softly.

This Fierce Specter War Chariot was one of the items that Xu Disheng had marked.

“I’ll wait a bit,” Xu Disheng said, his brows furrowing as he looked down at the people below, whose moods were starting to surge rowdily.

The offensive power of this Psychic Magic Treasure was incredibly strong. There was a Fierce Specter stage ghost sealed within. If one channeled power into the array on the war chariot, it would erupt forth with an attack of inconceivable power!

A Fierce Specter stage ghost was equivalent to a Divine Core stage Spirit Master!

But its price was simply far too expensive. Although there were several people who were continually bidding with excited looks on their faces, the bids were only increasing by about 500 or 1,000 spirit stones each time.

A price easily exceeding tens of thousands of spirit stones wasn’t something ordinary people could afford.

Only disciples who were extremely wealthy or had influential backgrounds could have such a massive amount of spirit stones at one time.

“49,000 spirit stones,” a woman’s voice resounded from a box suite on the second floor directly across from them. It was clearly the maid assigned to the owner of the box suite that was announcing the bid.

After this bid, everyone was silent. For a stretch of time, no one put forth any bids.

“Increase the bid by 1,000 spirit stones each time, regardless of what they bid,” Xu Disheng said.

Her eyes became bright, and she went forward to activate the voice transmitting array. “50,000 spirit stones!” she shouted.

Even though it wasn’t her spirit stones, shouting out such a tremendous bid made the woman’s heart beat faster, to the point that she was hardly able to control herself.

Countless gazes turned to the 65th room on the second floor, but all they could see was a dense fog, and all they could hear was the woman’s birdsong-like voice through the array.

After a moment’s silence, a voice rang out from the 40th room on the second floor. “55,000 spirit stones.”

This person clearly marked the Fierce Specter War Chariot as a must-have item. They raised the price by 5,000 spirit stones in one go!

On the first floor, many peoples’ eyes started to turn red with greed as they stared unwaveringly at the war chariot on the stage.

There was a baleful aura surrounding it, endless shrieks of horror ringing from within, causing the hearts of anyone who beheld it to thud in terror.

“56,000 spirit stones!” the woman in the white dress called out, her voice trembling slightly. Simply thinking about such an incredible amount of spirit stones made her heart shudder with exhilaration.

“60,000 spirit stones!” the maid in room 40 called out without hesitation. It was an immediate rise of 4,000 spirit stones!

“Young… Young Master, d-do we continue to raise the bid?” the woman in the white dress asked stammeringly, turning around to look at Xu Disheng.

Xu Disheng’s eyes were furrowed slightly in displeasure. There were other items that he wanted, which would only appear later on in the auction. If he wasted too many spirit stones on this Fierce Specter War Chariot, it wouldn’t be good for him.

But this Psychic Magic Treasure was different from the others because it had as many as five seals on it, which were sealing the Fierce Specter stage ghost within.

Although a Sea of Qi stage cultivator would only be able to undo a single seal, if there was a life-threatening disaster, it was possible to undo more seals and unleash most of the might of a Psychic Magic Treasure!

Of course, the backlash of the Fierce Specter would be nearly impossible to deal with by that point. But despite this flaw, the Fierce Specter War Chariot was an extremely powerful trump card.

“Continue.”

Hearing Xu Disheng’s reply, the woman once again activated the voice transmitting array, causing her delicate voice to resound throughout the auction hall. “61,000 spirit stones.”

“This is insanity! Even if it is a Psychic Magic Treasure, a price of over 60,000 spirit stones is far too extravagant!”

“Which Mountain Range does this disciple belong to?! How wealthy can they possibly be?!”

“Over 60,000 spirit stones!”

In the auction hall, many people started to whisper amongst themselves uproariously, their eyes red with greed.

The auction had been going on for two days by this point, and the highest price that an item had gone for was a little over 30,000 spirit stones, for an item called the Frost Flower Dharmic Sword.

Even though the starting bid of the Fierce Specter War Chariot was extremely high, the bidding price climbing to over 60,000 spirit stones in such a short time was outside of many peoples’ expectations.

“70,000 spirit stones!” the maid in room 40 yelled. This time, there was very clearly a hint of trembling in her voice.

“This is pure madness!”

“Increasing the price by 9,000 at once?! This person is crazy!”

“Who in the world is this person in room 40?”

“70,000 spirit stones?!!”

The woman in the white dress no longer dared to activate the voice transmitting array and increase the bid further. She turned around and looked at Xu Disheng.

Xu Disheng was looking down at the Fierce Specter War Chariot in the center of the stage, examining its baleful aura and the faint, endless shrieks that rang out from within.

His gaze was calm. And for a moment, there was silence.

Wu Xingye was someone who had a great amount of life experience, so even though he was pleasantly surprised by this sky high price, he maintained a steady hand over his emotions. In a spirited voice, he called out, “Second floor room 40 bids 70,000 spirit stones! Are there any higher bids?”

As Wu Xingye spoke, he looked towards room 65, where Xu Disheng was. He was quite obviously hoping there would be a higher bid, so the Grand Erudition House could earn an even greater profit.

.

“Now that it has increased to a sky-high price of 70,000 spirit stones, there’s no way room 65 will continue to bid,” a man who was clearly trying to act all profound judged, taking a dramatic sip of his tea.

“Even for an offense-oriented Psychic Magic Treasure like this, a price exceeding 70,000 spirit stones is way too high.”

“For real. Looks like this Fierce Specter War Chariot will end up in the hands of the master of room 40.”

Wu Xingye waited for a while. Seeing no one putting forth any bids, he couldn’t hide the disappointment on his face. But just as he was about to speak, a delicate female voice rang out from room 65.

“80,000 spirit stones.”

By this point, the woman in the white dress was already numb, the massive number of spirit stones becoming just a jumble of numbers in her mind. She didn’t even dare to think of the outrageous amount of wealth 80,000 spirit stones entailed.

Room 40 was completely silent.

All at once, an uproar broke out in the auction hall.

Many people shot up out of their seats, looking in pure shock at room 65, where Xu Disheng was sitting!

Mu Hui’s expression was ice cold. In any equally frigid tone, he said, “Go call your Deacon here.”

“Yes, Young Master Mu,” the maid said, withdrawing from room 40.

After a while, the barrier and arrays opened up again, and the Dao Foundation stage Deacon, Wu Youcai, appeared, his face smeared with an obsequious smile. “Young Master Mu, what is your command?”

“Give me the details on the person in room 65 who dared to partake in a bidding war with me just now,” Mu Hui demanded. He had only brought a little over 70,000 spirit stones with him this time. The person in room 65 continued to outbid him, causing red hot fury to surge in his heart.

“Young Master Mu, this is against the rules,” Wu Youcai said, his expression turning difficult. “My Grand Erudition House has one Psychic Magic Treasure similar to this one. If it is to Young Master Mu’s liking, I can offer it to you for the original price.”

Mu Hui was the disciple of Wenyuan Mountain’s Inner Nuance Spirit Master. There wasn’t a single person in Wenyuan Mountain who didn’t know Mu Hui, and naturally Wu Youcai didn’t dare to offend him.

Mu Hui snorted coldly. He was naturally aware of the rules that Grand Erudition Spirit Master had founded the Grand Erudition House upon, so he didn’t trouble Wu Youcai any further. He simply nodded and said, “Bring it here then. I’ll buy it for 30% above the original price.”

As the direct disciple of a Divine Core stage Spirit Master, it was beneath Mu Hui to care about a trifling few thousand spirit stones in discounts.
