Chapter 106: Florida Man Arrested for Throwing High-Explosive Grenade at Monster Tamer During Pok*mon Duel
While the commentator rallied the crowd, Fox Corn brandished his wand, aiming its tip directly at Felix's face.
"You arrogant bastard! Today, I'll stomp on your corpse and show everyone that you're nothing but a rebellious fool! You don't deserve the top rank! How dare you look down on the empire and the emperor?!"
Felix tilted his head, puzzled by Fox Corn's hostility. Although Felix had copied Jessica's democracy propaganda onto his test papers during the previous written exam, he found it absurd for someone to harbor such hatred over his answers and political views. It reminded him of the political fanatics on Earth.
Calmly, Felix attempted to reason with Fox Corn. "Look, buddy, I get that you're upset because of our political differences, but is a death threat really necessary? We're just trying to become students here. What's the point of drowning yourself in hatred? Let's have a friendly match, okay?"
"Friendship with you? I'd rather die than associate with rebellious commoner scum like you! Come, my minions! KILL THAT SON OF A HARLOT!"
"...You say what?"
Fox Corn's wand glowed with a green light, and a double magic circle appeared beneath his feet. Two 10-foot-tall oak tree monsters emerged from the ground, each revealing a human-like face on its trunk. As they opened their mouths, they howled, their branches shaking as crimson spikes sprouted where leaves should have been.
Felix let out a wry smile, taking a few steps back as he considered pulling a gun from his inventory. But then he remembered one of the contract clauses:
[Guaranteed Admission: Felix would participate in the upcoming examinations without using firearms.]
The restriction was frustrating, but there was a loophole—"firearms" wasn't clearly defined in the contract.
Felix had something else in mind. He pulled an explosive grenade from his inventory, removed the pin, and hurled it toward one of the trents. Unfortunately, it bounced off the hard floor and rolled back toward Fox Corn's feet.
Felix's expression soured. He shouted a warning to the youth.
"FUCK, I WAS TRYING TO THROW IT AT YOUR SUMMONS! DODGE IT!!"
Fox Corn sneered at the grenade, dismissing it as insignificant. "Dodge? A rock? Ha! Throwing a rock at me? Why should I fear a mere rock?
You're nothing but—"
Felix didn't wait for the rest of the taunt. He dropped to the ground, covering his head with both hands. A second later, the grenade exploded.
*BOOM!*
Felix squeezed his eyes shut, regretting his decision. He prayed that Fox would survive the blast.
*THUD*
A severed foot and a piece of gold cloth landed next to Felix. He glanced at them and bit his lower lip.
"Dammit. That wasn't me!" Felix inhaled a mouthful of invisible copium, gaslighting himself. He didn't want to see the aftermath, but he forced himself to look.
The two trents were dissipating into dust. As for Fox Corn, both his legs were gone while his body was one the ground, 20 feet away from his previous location.
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!"
Fox Corn wailed in disbelief and horror. The shock of seeing his missing legs overwhelmed him, and with a final scream, he fainted.
Felix slowly stood up, avoiding the sight of the injured Fox Corn. He smacked his forehead in frustration and discreetly scanned the spectator stands. Without commenting anything, he left the arena, returning to his locker room.
Meanwhile, the commentator gulped, and nervously announced the result.
"Winner… Felix Ariel…"
The crowd was silent, staring at the scene in disbelief and shock.
.
.
In the center of the stands, where Saucon, Tanaka, Martin, Garudeer, Zen, and the headmaster of the Nature Tower Elizabeth, were seated, all the VIPs had risen from their chairs, gaping at the outcome in astonishment. Tanaka and Martin exchanged wry smiles, recognizing the grenade's origins. The others were left speechless.
"I'll go talk to the boy," Martin sighed, excusing himself from the VIP section.
"Me, too," Tanaka added, seizing the opportunity to avoid the emperor's impending wrath.
The Corn House was a prominent noble family, crucial to the empire's rapid growth. They were responsible for 40% of the empire's food production, and several family members had fought valiantly on the front lines against the Crimson Desert Tribes. Although Corn House was not as overbearing as the Seth House, offending the Corn House could jeopardize the empire's stability.
Neither Martin nor Tanaka wanted to remain and face Saucon's anger.
Meanwhile, Saucon glared at Felix with bloodshot eyes. He had expected Felix to show some humility after losing to Fox Corn, but instead, the earthling had crippled a promising child. Furious, he turned to scold Martin for not imposing stricter restrictions on Felix, only to find the magus had already disappeared.
Saucon slammed his fist on the armrest, shattering part of the stone chair. In frustration, he spat at Martin's empty seat.
"Where is Xavior?! Call him over!" Saucon bellowed.
The elf, Elizabeth, glanced at Garudeer and Zen, who remained silent. She smirked and coyly informed the emperor, "Your Majesty, Lord Xavior is busy tracking down a runaway spy from the Solaris Commonwealth Empire. He has informed me that he will return before nightfall after apprehending the fugitive."
Saucon glared at the alluring elf. He remembered that he had ordered Xavior to arrest Sean Smith yesterday, but the alchemy saint hadn't accomplished his mission yet. Frustrated by the incompetency of his subordinates, he pointed a finger at her. "Go and arrest Felix Ariel for concealing forbidden artifacts. He is—"
Saucon hesitated. He wanted to disqualify Felix from joining the academy. But as he glanced at Garudeer and Zen, he realized the political implications. If he pushed too hard, these two headmasters might rally their forces and align with the Eleanor Church Faction.
Bound by political constraints, Saucon suppressed his anger and sat back down, groaning. He closed his eyes and commanded Zen, "Go heal that crippled brat. Don't return until his legs are fully restored."
Zen smiled and bowed, quietly leaving the spectator area to carry out the emperor's orders. Elizabeth also left to carry out his order - arresting Felix and confiscating his hidden weapons.
