Chapter 676: A Longing

Xia Ning frowned at Zheng Haodong, who had snatched her phone away. “Give it back!”

“Let me guess who it was from.” Zheng Haodong waved her phone in front of her face. “The number doesn’t come with a name and it’s from S City.”

The look in Xia Ning’s eyes grew stern. Keeping her gaze on Zheng Haodong, she said in a threatening tone. “Zheng Haodong, you have no right to meddle with my personal affairs. Give my phone back. I’m leaving.”

“You really don’t want to see me, huh?” Staring at Xia Ning, Zheng Haodong closed in on her, forcing her to back into a corner.

“What do you want from me?” Xia Ning looked alarmed.

Zheng Haodong sneered at her. “What do you think?” He tried to touch Xia Ning’s face again, but she moved away from his hand and caught him by his wrist.

“Zheng Haodong, even if it was Qiao Yu who had driven you into his hopeless state, you have no one to blame but yourself. I’ve told you already. I don’t want your love. Your feelings mean nothing to me. Do whatever you want with them. I don’t care.” Xia Ning said coldly. “It has always been your own wishful thinking, but now, you’re trying to make it sound like I did something wrong?”

Zheng Haodong frowned when he saw Xia Ning’s emotionless eyes and he said in a displeased voice, “You’re heartless!”

Xia Ning smiled. “Yes, that’s me. Don’t act like you’ve learned it for the first time!”

“Then what do you see in Qiao Yu?” Zheng Haodong asked loudly. He wouldn’t accept this. He had given her his heart, but all she cared about was money.

“I like him for who he is!” Xia Ning blurted out. She was surprised herself as soon as she said those words, but this was not the time to ponder over such things. She looked at Zheng Haodong in the eyes. “So what if I love him for his money? You accuse women of going after money, which you don’t have, and that’s just being selfish. Too bad that the world doesn’t revolve around you and not everyone has to care about your feelings or abilities. Every individual has their right to choose for themselves.”

Zheng Haodong wanted to throw Xia Ning off but realized that he couldn’t break free from her grip.

He couldn’t even overpower a woman now. The realization frustrated Zheng Haodong.

Keeping her gaze on Zheng Haodong, Xia Ning went on. “I’ll forget about what has just happened, but I don’t ever want to see you again. I may look harmless in my everyday life, but I’m ruthless toward my enemies. The truth is, if Qiao Yu hadn’t taken care of you, I would have and you would have met the same end. Now, take care.” She then let go of his hand and walked away.

Watching Xia Ning from behind, Zheng Haodong said, “You heartless woman! What am I to you?” If he knew he would fall in love with someone like her, he would never have taken that role in the first place.

Xia Ning paused, looked back at Zheng Haodong, and smiled. “You know the answer. You’re nothing to me! Although, I still want to thank you.”

Because something he said had made her see light.

Zheng Haodong clenched his fists as he watched her leave. He didn’t want to accept this, but when he recalled what he had done, he realized that he didn’t deserve her at all. It was only natural that she didn’t like him.

He didn’t actually want anything from her. He only wanted to see her.

Xia Ning went back to the restaurant and bought another bowl of wontons. Sitting down at a table and looking at the steaming bowl of wontons in front of her, she was suddenly overwhelmed by a feeling that resembled a longing.
