Volume 2, Chapter 21: Deadman Walking’s Parade?
Glasco’s eyes blinked several times as if to confirm the figure of the tall man in full-plate armor who appeared out of nowhere.
His eyes shouldn’t be playing a trick on him.
It was definitely the figure of the swordsman who shamed him repeatedly just a few days ago.
?Y… You.?
Glasco looked up at Lambert with an exhausted face.
There was unrestrained disgust in his eyes.
Lambert’s arm stretched to Glasco.
Remembering being slapped twice by Lambert, Glasco unintentionally averting his face.
But Lambert’s arm caught Glasco just when he was about to dodge it.
He easily pulled up Glasco’s huge frame with one hand, forcing the latter to stand properly again.
?Urgh…?
Glasco’s eyes caught sight of the figure of Balthet, who had already been split in half, starting to move again.
Although the other party was an opponent with whom he fought while betting his life, he was instantly reduced to nothing more than a lump of meat by Lambert.
‘Though I know that this big dude is powerful… to think that his strength is this overwhelming.’
He felt disappointment piling upon disappointment as he was forced to witness Lambert’s power again.
‘…This man helped me stand again. What is he going to say now? Is he going to curse us for being useless again? I’d rather die than be saved by this unknown traveler.’
Glasco gripped his sword again.
?At the very least, the look on your face right now is far better than when we met for the first time. Allow me to withdraw my previous criticism from before.?
Lambert’s hand patted Glasco’s shoulder, putting more pressure due to the sheer weight of the former’s glove.
?WHA—!?
Ignoring the bewildered Glasco, Lambert continued on with his words.
?Since you can still move your leg, quickly give instructions to your subordinates. This isn’t the only place in which the riots have happened. The enemy has dispersed to the other places too.?
Despite what Lambert had said, Glasco had a stab wound in his stomach.
Naturally, it wasn’t a life-threatening wound.
But he was barely hanging in there. His field of vision has dimmed due to the blood loss.
?I already did everything I co—?
?That doesn’t matter. The one whose orders will be followed by the earl’s private soldiers are yours. This might be a losing battle, but you must keep the morale of your subordinates high to get out of this situation. You must never fall since the morale of your soldiers depends on you. They’re going to get confused without your presence. Now, are you going to continue this battle??
After telling those words to Glasco, Lambert turned his back on Glasco, walking away as he readied his sword.
Glasco stared absentmindedly at Lambert’s back for a while after that.
But then, he recalled Lambert’s parting words. Thus, he raised his sword and shouted at the top of his lungs.
?I-I’M STILL ALIVE! WE CAN STILL FIGHT! SOLDIERS, WE MIGHT BE AGAINST A STRANGE ENEMY, BUT THERE’S ONLY TWENTY OF THEM!?
Glasco’s soldiers raised their war cry as if to respond to their leader’s war cry.
Glasco’s shout was enough to make his soldiers regain their fighting spirit.
The one who stood in front of Lambert was the guild master of ?Silver’s Will?, Mikaela.
?KIHA, KIHAHAH… KIHAHAHAA!?
Her stagnant eyes were locked on Lambert.
?Still trying to hide yourself, huh? Unfortunately, you can’t fool my eyes.?
Lambert was glaring at the mountain of corpses behind Mikaela.
The mountain of corpses wriggled around, and then, a plump man draped in blood-soaked robes appeared from within.
In his hand was a crystal that exuded sinister black light: death black crystal.
The man then stuck out his tongue, licking the blood of one of the victims on his lips.
?Return, woman. Protect me.?
Mikaela retreated quickly.
She stopped retreating only after she arrived beside that man. The tip of her sword was pointed at Lambert.
The man stroked Mikaela’s hair, smiling as he shrugged his shoulder after smelling the latter’s hair.
The face of that man was peeking out from his robes.
He was an ugly man whose face was covered with pimples.
?HAHA, HAHAHAHA, HAHA.?
Contrary to her maniacal laugh, Mikaela’s upper body bent backward, pulled her sword as she stopped moving in such a posture.
Even though the robed man’s hiding place had been found out, he didn’t seem to be perturbed.
…As if he had some sort of card up his sleeve.
?This woman is quite useful. I’m glad I was appointed in this supposedly dangerous area. If I can leave this place safely after we destroy Barreira City, I’m going to turn her into my pet.?
The man brushed Mikaela’s disheveled blonde hair as he spoke.
Lambert leaped forward, closing in on Mikaela.
?S-STOP! YOU MUSTN’T CLOSE IN WHEN MIKAELA’S IN THAT STANCE!?
Glasco shouted a warning to Lambert.
But Lambert paid no mind to that warning and just charged forward to Mikaela.
Moving after seeing—it was her counterstance that made full use of her lightning-fast thrust.
It was a sure-kill move that was devised by Mikaela after much experience on the battlefield. The move was called ?Setting Moon?.
It was a killing move that she devised to pierce her opponent’s vital spot faster than the time they need to swing their sword.
Despite being such a great finishing move, it did have a huge drawback—namely the fact that she had to stop moving, since moving would result in more openings.
The robed man’s composure came from the ability of the undead Mikaela.
After prior investigation, he was aiming for Mikaela, who had both beauty and strength.
Naturally, he was also aware of her sure-kill move, ?Setting Moon?.
?It seems you’re quite a skilled swordsman, but I see that you’ve got no brain in your head.? [Note: How terrifying, he disclosed Lambert’s identity]
The man was laughing at Lambert.
Lambert swung his sword toward Mikaela.
He entered Mikaela’s attack range. Mikaela then leaned forward as her wrist reversed.
Her sword thrusted forward in the shortest path toward Lambert.
The man raised a laugh.
But the next moment, Mikaela’s body was blown back while creating a spray of blood.
Her entire left arm was gone from its base. Her body then fell on the ground with a huge gaping wound on her remaining right arm.
And then, the left arm that was still holding onto her sword fell right beside her body.
Although her body twitched, she still tried to stand up.
But her movements suddenly stopped with a jerk. Following that, her body felt as if the strings that were holding it were cut off.
It was evident that Lambert’s swing from the front was much faster than Mikaela’s finishing move, ?Setting Moon?.
?I-I-IMPOSSIBLE! T-T-THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE! SUCH INHUMAN SPEED IS…?
?My bad, I’ve been like this ever since I was alive.?
Lambert broke through the man’s trump card and stood in front of the latter like a reaper.
That man raised a muffled shriek as he tried to get away.
And then, as if recalling something, he took out the death black crystal and presented it to Lambert.
?Y-You came for this, right? Y-you want this thing, right? I-it really is by chance that I became Manzi-sama’s subordinate… Please… overlook me just this once…?
But Lambert’s greatsword mercilessly slashed upward as if ignoring those pleas, smashing the death black crystal.
Following that, the man’s fate was no different from his crystal, his head was smashed apart like a rotten tomato by Lambert’s greatsword.
The bodies of the undeads in the vicinity suddenly trembled, falling all at once.
That scene evoked a cheer of joy from the soldiers.
Noticing that the ominous mana surrounding the place had begun to dissipate, Lambert returned his sword into its sheath.
