Chapter 118

Chapter 118: Triangular Strangle

The two exchanged stares across the pit. Although Drako Yau’s mask hid his eyes from Windstrider, his actions had clearly disclosed how eager and aggressive he was. They locked gazes for a moment, then charged at each other again.

It was reasonable for Mask, whom everyone thought was a warrior, to charge at the enemy, but they found it incomprehensible for Windstrider, a ranger, to also close the distance. Still, all suspicions aside, Windstrider’s melee combat was decent enough to strike fear in many of his Arena competitors.

It was natural for a warrior to close in on a ranger in battle. However, when the ranger was just as good in melee combat, he would become an exceptionally formidable enemy!

Just like before, two Dual Shots and four bullets whizzed through the air at Drako Yau. Dual Shot, with its short cooldown and effect from Dual Magazine, was now a devastating skill; it was the first skill Windstrider had maxed out as well.

Along with the four projectiles, Windstrider plucked out his dagger from his waist and dashed at Drako Yau using Shadowstrike! The skill teleported him before his enemy before his shots.

Drako Yau parried the incoming dagger with his spear. However, four bullets shot at him from behind Windstrider and grazed his shoulders, splattering blood once more. Windstrider had also switched back to his hunting rifle and fired another two shots in quick succession.

Repelling Shot!

After putting a distance of 10 steps between them, Windstrider didn’t cease attacking and entered a half squatting stance. A flaxen glow shrouded his rifle’s muzzle.

A yellow bullet propelled out of the barrel and flew towards Drako Yau who was knocked back. During its flight, the bullet broke off into three projectiles with ropes connecting them to form a triangle.

‘Triangular Strangle!’ Rangers who were spectating the match shouted.

Level 20 ranger skill, Triangular Strangle. Immobilises the enemy for 3 seconds upon landing.

Triangular Strangle was undoubtedly a powerful control skill for rangers. It had a cooldown of 7 seconds while its immobilising effect lasted for 4 seconds, meaning it could be used again in 4 seconds if the previous shot landed. Naturally, it was not without its cons—the projectile was slow, even more so than regular shots.

With Drako Yau still under Repelling Shot’s knockback effect though, Triangular Strangle strolled its way towards him and easily landed. The yellow strings strangled his legs, rendering him immobile.

‘You’re a wonderful opponent. This is my first time going all out.’

The muzzle of Windstrider’s hunting rifle was suffused with a red aura.

His skill combo was awe-inspiring: two Dual Shots together with Shadowstrike, two Repelling Shots, then followed by Triangular Strangle. And now, the red muzzle indicated that he was going to use Heart-Piercing Shot.

Drako Yau tried to move but couldn’t as he listened to Windstrider. The spectators were also yelling excitedly—Windstrider the ranger was simply so damn cool!

No one outside the pit could hear the ongoing conversation. Even as Windstrider spoke, his actions were just as quick.

‘Thank you.’

It was his heartfelt thanks. Without an evenly-matched opponent, he couldn’t enjoy and display himself to the fullest. In previous matches, he easily decimated most of his opponents with just half his strength.

Two bullets shrouded in red cut through the air straight towards Drako Yau’s chest. WIndstrider had timed his shot so that by the time the bullets punctured their targets, Triangular Strangle’s effect would have barely ended.

Drako Yau didn’t give up. He widened and rolled his eyes while his body struggled to move, but because it was a system-induced effect, he had no choice but to stay there like a good boy for three seconds. His body struggled violently while his mind was calmly coming up with a solution.

It’s happening again…

At that moment, the Cryoflame Jade hanging near his chest gave off a bright glow. It created a suction force, sucking in a bit of the two forces separated by the Ghost Flame before… exploding.

Neither the Cryoflame jade nor Drako Yau’s body actually exploded. It was the mixture of both forces within the jade which exploded, which was only natural when ice clashed with fire. The explosion plunged Drako Yau into the weird state once again.

Pzzt…

The two Heart-Piercing Shots which were cutting through the air now flew in slow motion, almost as if time itself had stopped flowing. Drako Yau looked at the spectators all cheering like sloths. How laughable.

It happened again.

This weird state was extremely useful for him in battle, but it was no good thing at all for his well-being. Still, he couldn’t control it even when he knew the consequences. He would enter the state naturally when he was getting emotional, and it was completely beyond his control.

In that case, he might as well cherish the time he had. He couldn’t stay in this state for very long. He had to put an end to the fight within the limited time he had, and more importantly, explore and feel where this state came from and how to make use of it. Analysing skills was a mandatory skill for all game designers after all.

When Triangular Strangle finally released its grasp on him, the two Heart-Piercing Shot was already right before him. He had to admit that the ranger was a powerful opponent who had great predicting ability. Even in his weird state, he knew it was impossible to fully evade the two shots.

One shot grazed his chest while the other grazed his waist, biting away a small chunk of his flesh, though he didn’t feel a lot of pain in his current state.

Hm… So it also reduces pain perception.josei

Windstrider was totally stupefied. How can someone dodge an attack like this? Even people with lightning reflexes can’t react in time!

He was right, but that was limited to ordinary people. Everything was moving in slow motion for Drako Yau, so reflex wasn’t really an issue for him.

During the brief moment Windstrider lost his focus, Drako Yau had already begun charging at him. They were separated by less than five steps by the time he recovered from his daze.

‘Dammit!’ Windstrider grit his teeth and immediately used Dual Shot twice as he quickly glanced at his mana bar.

Dual Magazine had the disadvantage of consuming double the mana when re-casting a skill. From the beginning, Windstrider had been trying to bring Drako Yau with rapid bursts of attacks, with one of the reasons being Dual Magazine’s high mana consumption.

The four approaching shots seemed unavoidable, but under Windstrider’s stunned gaze, Drako Yau dodged the shots by twisting his body like lightning and stabbed his spear forwards.

Thud!

The spear landed flushly on Windstrider’s chest. It was the first time Drako Yau had struck his enemy in the duel. Under the effects of both Might and Spear Mastery, it wasn’t a strike to be underestimated.
