Chapter 135: Becoming an inscriptionist (a)

Whittaker pulled out the red inkpot from his [Seven Element Inking Set]. When he gazed at it, Noah notified,

"Let's start!"

The Yin-Yang heavenly brush appeared in his hand and he dipped it into the flame-type inkpot then after three seconds, he pulled it out and started drawing a flame-type magical rune on the talisman paper.

In his vision, the scene of Elder Zachary sketching the Flame Wave rune one line at a time played. He followed his actions to create the design of the basic fire type "Fire Wave" magical rune.

The creation of a magical rune design depended on the exceptional memory of a person and control over the movements of hands. Whittaker had the first but lacked in the second. He didn't have exceptional control over his hands.

"This looks easy," He beamed a smile while thinking that he was about to create a talisman for the very first time in his life. 

The process seemed to be going smoothly, hence Whittaker thought it is easy to become an Inscriptionist; However, he was wrong as his rune design that seemed perfect in his eyes, was too shaky. It was bound to end up in a failure.

Whittaker wasn't Elder Zachary and he couldn't complete a magical rune design in a single stroke. His brush was empty of ink before he could complete the design.

Quickly, he dipped the brush into flame blood inkpot and continued. The fire element converged into the talisman as Scarlet lines were drawn on it, one after another. 

Several minutes after, Whittaker finished with inscribing the Fire wave magical rune design on the talisman.

"Shaa that!" Instantly, the talisman was set on fire as it started burning and Whittaker rushed to the bathroom, throwing the flaming talisman into the water tub.

"Noah, am I a failure?" Whittaker felt disheartened at failing his first attempt at creating a talisman.

Hearing Noah's word, Whittaker understood that he wasn't the only one who failed while creating a talisman for the first time, hence his mood brightened up and he said,

"Thank you, Noah. I will keep on training until I inscribe the flame wave rune design on the talisman paper, even if I had to spend the entire night training!"

Quickly, he took out another piece of talisman, dipped his heavenly Yin-Yang brush in the red inkpot, mixed the hairs of the brush with the flame element blood, and started to draw the flame Wave rune design on the talisman paper.

As soon as he completed the Fire Wave design, the talisman paper was instantly set on fire and he was hit by a burnt smell suddenly.

Cough, Cough! While coughing, Whittaker used his hand to cover his mouth and nose to block the black smoke from entering his body through the nostril or the mouth. All the while, he was running towards the bathtub. 

Throwing the blazing talisman paper inside the bathtub filled to the brim with clear water that was slowly but surely turning murky, he exhaled a breath of relief.

"Why do I keep on failing, again and again?" Whittaker was shocked. This was probably the biggest hurdle he had faced in his entire life.

He had continuously failed five-time to inscribe even a low-tier Flame Wave design and his hopeful, smiling face turned ugly at the result. 

"Noah, where did it go wrong. I followed the same actions Elder Zachary took and the magic rune design is exactly the same. Could it be that I need to complete it within a certain time limit?" Whittaker dispiritedly analyzed the mistakes he might have made during the inscribing process.

"I will probably have to train for months to become an inscriptionist!" Whittaker muttered after realizing the reason for his failure.
