Chapter 177: Raze's Search
Chapter 177: Raze's Search
The Search effect of the item was truly helpful, but it consumed the Durability of the Compass itself. Currently, she doesn't have any Appraisal Skills that could determine the Durability of an item, so she was hesitant to use the Search effect repeatedly.
She also had no crafting abilities to repair damaged items. Nonetheless, she didn't mind using this item now since her Navigate was actually pointing to a spot near this place.
Clink…
The device, ornate and enigmatic, was said to guide its bearer to riches yet untouched by human hands. The Auctioneer at that time confirmed that the compass would not lead to treasures in the pockets or those being worn by other humans.
She held it aloft, watching as the needle swung with a will of its own, settling in a direction with an assuredness that indicated her to follow.
'It's working… It should be somewhere here…'
The compass led her through the underbrush while the moon cast spotted shadows on the forest floor…
'I think I'm getting closer…'
"Roan… Do you sense anything?" She asked the baby dragon who had just caught a small lizard… This action made Raze a bit surprised since Lizard didn't seem to have caught the virus for some reason.
After all, there were Zombie Rats, Dogs, Cats, and Alpacas, according to the Regional Chat, so she felt a bit curious as to why a Zombie Lizard didn't exist.
Anyway, this wasn't important right now.
The needle remained steadfast, pointing to a promise of hidden bounty. Raze's steps were silent, her senses alert for any sign of the treasure—or the dangers that might guard it.
After traversing the terrain that was already being filled with mist, the compass's dance slowed, and Raze found herself before an aged oak.
"This is huge…" Raze muttered as she looked at the top of the tree. Then, she looked at the familiar item that the compass had found for her.
There, nestled at its roots, lay a Wooden Treasure Chest.
It was a simple thing, unassuming in its appearance, but the compass's insistence spoke of the value hidden within.
She wasn't unfamiliar with the Treasure Chest as she also discovered one of them in the sewers.
Nonetheless, she felt that this Wooden Treasure had better items inside because of its location.
Raze approached, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword, aware that treasures such as these were often protected by more than locks and hinges.
Luckily, Roan was with her, and she confirmed that there weren't any traps around…
[ You have discovered a Wooden Treasure Chest. ]
[ You have earned 3 Experience Points. ]
[ You have earned 3 Reputation Points. ]
'Reputation Points… Not bad…' Raze felt happy even just by this reward.
Then, seeing that it was locked and since she didn't have any Lockpicking Skills, she asked Roan to destroy the lock for her.
It was done easily since Roan could even chew some steel if he wanted.
With a cautious touch, she lifted the lid, half-expecting a trap to spring forth.
Instead, the chest opened with a creak, revealing its contents bathed in the soft glow of golden light..
Inside, the chest was lined with a collection of gold coins from a bygone era, each stamped with the visage of a forgotten monarch and a few scrolls sealed with a wax emblem that hinted at arcane knowledge.
But what caught Raze's eye was a set of vials filled with a liquid that shimmered in blue light, its properties unknown but undoubtedly powerful.
Soon, these items disappeared, and what replaced them were the notifications she received from the system.
[ You have received Versailles Gold Coin x200 ]
[ You have received Scroll of Vitality x2 ]
[ You have received Scroll of Precision x2 ]
[ You have received Scroll of Insight x5 ]
[ You have received Frostfall Potion x6 ]
[ You have received Mistcloak Potion x6 ]
Raze was a bit surprised as she realized that the Wooden Treasure Chest was quite bountiful!
"I really got lucky this time, huh… This is probably the fullest treasure chest among the wooden ranks…" Raze muttered as she opened her inventory to see their item descriptions as well.
The gold coins seemed useless at this time, but she could consider trading them for Auction Points at the next auction event.
On the other hand, she realized that the scrolls and potions weren't actually items that could provide permanent effects.
The Vitality, Precision or Accuracy, and Insight Scrolls were only able to provide effects for a limited duration.
[ Scroll of Vitality: Enhances the user's stamina and endurance, allowing for prolonged exertion in challenging situations. The effect of the scroll's magic will last for 6 hours.]
"That guy who wanted to build a harem in the Regional Chat would probably want this item no matter the price." Raze shook her head as she recalled the chats she read previously when she had nothing to do.
She decided to forget about that person for now as she checked the other scroll.
[ Scroll of Precision: Improves accuracy and aim, granting the user sharper focus and better marksmanship in combat. The effect of the scroll's magic will last for 6 hours. ]
Raze smiled after seeing this… She actually tried using an arrow before. She tried borrowing Lyra's crossbow at that time.
However, she realized that she had the worst aim, and it wasn't something that her Strength and Agility stat could help her with.
"Can I finally become an Archer with this? Even just for a short period?"
Raze lamented as she really wanted to be a long-range fighter once she was able to ride Roan for a long period.
After all, she didn't like getting too close to some nasty zombies.
Anyway, she turned her attention to the next scroll.
[ Scroll of Insight: Heightens the user's perception and intuition, enabling them to detect hidden dangers and uncover secrets others might overlook. Practicing Survivor Skills with Scroll of Insight activated will also improve the practiced Skills five times faster. The effect of the scroll's magic will last for 6 hours. ]
