Chapter 376: Devil Heart.
Chapter 376: Devil Heart.
"Not dead, but not alive... Shit! Am I a zombie?!"
The Lyx with the white robe smacked him across the back of his head, while the other Lyx giggled. Then she answered,
"Not a zombie. Rather, it would be more accurate to say that you cannot go back to your body until the healing and transformations are complete."
"The Transformation?"
The Black-robed Lyx nodded, "Your body is taking on properties that will make it more convenient for you to use devil-related powers."
Cain went silently before asking an important question,
"Will the transformation lead to me becoming a Devil Thrall?"
The White-robed Lyx shook her head with a smile beautiful enough to cause war between nations,
"No. Like I said before, you will become a hybrid Devil. A Demon if you will..."
Cain's eyelids trembled, "A Demon?"
"A creature that is born tainted with the bloodline of the Devils."
Cain knew what a Demon was. Stingè was a Demon as well after all...
The black-robed Lyx continued, "There are only a select few races Devils can breed with. If the bloodline of the creature is weaker than the Devil bloodline, it would get overpowered immediately, and the creature will be born as a Devil."
Then she frowned, staring at Cain,
"But breeding with a bloodline that is of relatively equal standing would lead to the birth of a Demon. The human bloodline is one of the weakest in known history, so it is quite strange to see you retain your humanity."
Cain felt a headache coming...
There were many things to consider right now, but he had to keep things simple or he would never get anywhere..
"So what now? What do I have to do? Do I just wait until the healing and transformation are completed?"
The white-robe Lyx looked him dead in the eye. His heart nearly stopped beating in that moment,
"We have to make sure your soul is prepared..."
Cain swallowed a mouthful of saliva when he realized that something was off with that statement,
"Prepare my soul for what?"
The black-robed Lyx threw an indifferent glare at him,
"Your soul is still that of a human. What has happened to you has defied the natural order. If you try to return, your soul will be destroyed."
The white-robed Lyx chimed in, "The only way you can survive this is if we personally escort you out of here."
Cain was confused. Why were they helping him? He couldn't help but become suspicious.
The black-robed Lyx rolled her eyes,
"You released us from our eternal imprisonment. Think of this as your reward."
The white-robed Lux nodded her head,
"Indeed. We are truly grateful."
Cain was confused, "Erm... But aren't you both Devils? Why are you helping me? I thought devils only knew how to kill and destroy?"
The white-robed Lyx laughed and waved her hand,
"Those are just stereotypes. Many low-level Devils are unable to control their devilish nature. However, we are The Primordial Devil of Death."
The black-robed Lyx continued,
"Devils with pure bloodlines and true devils have very good control over their Devil Essence, so they can suppress any ill-natured feelings they have to a certain degree. If a high-level Devil casts a good illusion spell, you won't be able to tell the difference from any other race."
Cain's eyes twinkled with understanding...
'So that's why that {Phantasma} seemed more human-like than the other Devils.'
The {Phantasma} had a much purer bloodline than the other Devils he had faced. Hence, it had more control over its bloodlust and killing intent.
Cain let out a sigh, "Okay... I think I get it now."
Then something struck him,
"By the way..." He said pointing at the white-robed Lyx, who's eyebrows were raised in curiosity.
"Who are you?" Cain asked. He was convinced that the Lyx with the black robe was the true Lyx he had met when he was still alive.
"Hm? What do you mean? I am The Primordial Devil of Death, Lyx." The white-robed Lyx said, a look of confusion on her face.
The one with the black robe had a look of indifference on her face as she spoke,
"She is indeed the Primordial Devil of Death. So am I..."
Cain was confused once again, "What? So she is you, and you are her?"
The black-robed Lyx shook her head, "She personifies the Domain of Life, while I, the Domain of Death. We rule over the cycle of reincarnation of the Devils, washing them in the Reol so they can reach the Othershore."
"However, she's the one that does all the guiding of souls. I am the one that was sealed for so many millennia."
The white-robed Lyx laughed,
"That doesn't mean I don't know you. I've taken quite a liking to you, you see..." Her eyes sparkled as she glided on the water, reaching the space directly in front of him in a split second.
"Me?" Cain asked, feeling incredibly uncomfortable. Although Lyx was incredibly beautiful, she was still a Devil. Beneath that beauty was a deep darkness and malevolence that was impossible to keep hidden. Cain could tell that although this Devilish nature was being supressed, there was no telling just what would happen when it was forced to surface. He didn't even want to think about it.
The white-robed Lyx giggled, the smile on her face getting deeper, "Indeed. I have a lot of hope for you."
"Enough. We have no more time to waste." The Dark-robed Lyx said, glaring at the white-robed Lyx who still had a strange smile on her face,
Cain nodded, as he also desperately wanted to get away from the creepy she-devil.
The black-robed Lyx furrowed her eyebrows,
"The transformation is almost complete. Let's go."
Grabbing onto the collar of his white robe, she turned to him. Cain couldn't tell what she was thinking, as her face was always stoic. However, he knew she was sincere about paying back her debt.
The White-robed Lyx waved her hand goodbye,
"Make sure to come and visit regularly, okay?"
Cain, unsure of what to do, waved back,
"I'll try..."
Ignoring her white-robed counterpart, the black-robed Lyx turned into a beam of light and headed in the opposite direction of the moving shadows within the waters.
Left alone in the serene silence, the smile on the face of the white-robed Lyx became even brighter,
"Finally... After so long. I knew you'd come back. Goldie..."

Cain couldn't register the speed he was moving at. However, he knew if he slipped away from the grasp of the Primordial Devil at this point, he would turn into ground meat. Hence, he held on as right as possible.
Lyx seemed undisturbed as she continued to fly just slightly above the water's surface.
Suddenly, she spoke to Cain,
"Can you remember the fatal blow that cost you your life?"
Cain frowned as he tried to remember,
"If I'm not mistaken, a direct blow that obliterated my heart."
"Hmm... This might be a bit troublesome."
Cain's eyes fell, "Troublesome?"
Lyx continued in her usual indifferent tone,
"Although the transformation is almost complete, your body might not be complete healed. A damaged heart is one of the most difficult things to heal. Your case is even worse."
Cain's face paled, "What are you trying to say?"
Lyx stared down at Cain with unchanging eyes, her black robe fluttering gently in the wind,
"You might die again right after coming back to life."
Cain absolutely didn't want that, "What should I do?"
Cain finally got to see a hint of emotion on the face of the black-robed Lyx for a change. A dark smile appeared on her face. However, it was gone as quickly as it had appeared,
"That's something you will have to figure out by yourself. I doubt you will be able to regenerate a new heart with the little time that will be on your hands once you get back to the land of the living."
Cain sighed. If what Lyx said was true, then he was truly faced with a dilemma. He didn't want to die just seconds after coming back to life.
'What possible solution could there be? It's not like I can create a new... heart...'
Cain's thought processes seemed to slow down. His eyes became clouded as his eyebrows furrowed.
'If it is possible with mana, it is definitely possible with other forms of energy.'
{Mana Heart} was incredible, but it couldn't sustain his life. He could use Ki, but Ki could only be used once he git into his physical body.
He stared at Lyx for a second, hesitating...
'It's just a question. It wouldn't hurt to ask.'
"Ehem... Can I ask a question, Primordial Devil of Death?"
The black-robed Lux shot his an indifferent glare her eyes, "Ask away."
"Will it be possible to use Devil Eseence as I am right now?"
An excited glint appeared in her eyes, but Cain could be see it.
"Of course. This place is the most Devil Essence dense place in all of existence, so using it here won't be an issue."
Cain raised a brow, "Really? I can't feel anything."
Lyx nodded, "That is because your soul is still human. Only Devils can control Devil Essence in soul form."
Cain frowned, 'So there really is nothing I can do?'
Suddenly, another though popped into his mind. He wanted to dismiss it, but it refused to go away. Eventually, he decided to give in. After all, the worst thing was already behind him. It wasn't like he could get killed again at this point, right?
"Erm..."
"Just ask." Lyx said impatiently.
Hearing this, Cain didn't hesitate anymore,
"I need your help..."
A small smile appeared on her face. However, Cain couldn't see it,
"Help with what?"
Cain gritted his teeth, "I need your help in creating a new heart. A heart made from Devil Essence."
