Chapter 422: Western Lightslayers.

Chapter 422: Western Lightslayers.

Meanwhile...

On the Western Island, the world seemed bright. The grey clouds hanging in the sky served it's purpose. However, the entire island seemed to be under the influence of a subtle light source that brought illumination and heat.

This was due to the presence of the Minor Light god, Yagani...

Staring at the people around him walking around and chattering in blissful ignorance, Luke had a deep frown on his face.

Winifred and Reginald stood at his sides with bleak expressions on their faces. The Western Island had changes quite a bit. All the buildings at the island's edges were all gone, replaced with a huge stone wall that rose about thirty feet above the ground.

Although the wall wasn't very imposing, it was covered with various magic circles and runes.

Not only that, but the buildings were in a much better state than on the other islands. The people seemed more cheerful as well. However, there was a strange feeling of wrongness floating about, almost like the light was hiding something far darker than shadows beneath it...

"Tch! What is the point of building this thing? If a powerful Mutant Beast appears, one swing and it's going down!" Reginald stared at the wall, then snorted. Turning to Luke, his eyes were as cold as blocks of ice,

"We have wasted too much time here, Luke. We might as well have abandoned them if this was going to happen."

Winifred sighed, then adjusted his glasses,

"We can't leave yet, Reginald. At least not now."

Luke was silent for a while, before he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword,

"Reggie... What do you think is happening to them? To her..."

The two men fell silent, grim looks on their faces. Reginald scratched his bushy beard before clicking his tongue,

"Nothing pretty. That much I can tell you..."

Luke nodded, "That means the worst that can happen has probably happened already. We aren't living in a fantasy world. If they are still alive, I will do my very best to save them. If they have been killed, I'll cut those bastards dicks off as revenge."

Luke's face twisted in a horrid grimace as he gripped the hilt of his blade hard.

Winifred stared hard at Luke before taking his gaze away,

"Fuck..." He whispered under his breath.

Luke let out a sigh, "As for what we can do, the most reasonable course of action is to be patient. If we have the support of that guy, bringing Guy and his lackeys down shouldn't be impossible."

Reginald shook his head, "We've been going on hunts far too frequently these days. Although there have been little casualties so far, I can't help but think that bastard has ulterior motives..."

"Hmm..."

Luke knew exactly who Reginald was referring to.

Lukas... The leader of the followers of the Light God, Yagani, a cult-like group that had stumbled upon the remnants of a once powerful deity of light. Granted with these powers, the followers of the Light God were aplble to defeat the Devils that attempted to occupy the island without suffering to many losses.

As such, their forces were very strong, and the people that weren't blessed with the system had put the entirety of their fate in them...

Winifred also looked suspicious, "He's right, Luke. Sooner or later, our casualties will probably go up."

Luke massaged his temples, "I know... I know... You guys just need to deal with it for a little while."

Reginald frowned, "How much longer? How much longer do we need to keep acting like their lackeys?!"

Luke sighed, "Just a little while longer."

Seeing that Luke no longer intended on continuing the conversation, the others backed down.

Silence reigned in the air for a while. The three men had been talking with their backs leaning against the huge stone wall. They were able to see the street directly opposite them with utmost clarity. However, they didn't notice someone approach them until the individual finally spoke up.

Clearing his throat, Lukas grinned at Luke, Reginal and Winifred who had their eyes wide open as they reached for their weapons.

"Hold up... Please don't attack." Lukas let out an awkward laugh as he waved his hands in mock defeat.

Luke glared at him, "Didn't I tell you not to keep doing this?!"

Lukas smiled softly, "It has already become habit. Do forgive me..."

Reginald and Winifred held their glares, not willing to take their eyes off hon for a second. However, Luke could see that their hands were trembling.

Luke sighed as he turned his gaze back to Lukas.

'This guy... He's dangerous.'

Lukas' ability that allowed his to almost instantly travel to his intended destination was the most terrifying skill or spell Luke had every faced.

'If he wanted to take our heads, we would have been dead a long time ago...' cold thoughts ran through his head.

Lukas was very powerful without a doubt. Luke couldn't even judge the extent of his power. That was how scary it was. He also didn't trust him at all. However, he was his only hole if he wanted to beat a beast like Guy.

'Just where did these monsters come from?!'

"What do you want?" Luke said calmly.

"Could we have a more... private conversation?" Lukas said as he glanced back and forth at Winifred and Reginald.

Luke signalled the two with his eyes. Although they seemed reluctant, they removed their hands from their weapons and turned around. Once he was sure they had walked away, Luke turned to Lukas and raised a brow.

Lukas chuckled, "Those two are too overprotective."

Luke snorted coldly, "We've know each other for a long time." He refused to say anything more than that."

Lukas shrugged. With the smile still plastered on his face, he got right down to business,

"We are going to attack soon."

Luke's eyes narrowed, "Your plans are complete already?"

Lukas grinned, "Of course. Those hoodlums only know how to swing machetes like crude barbarians. Buying time wasn't so hard."

Luke stared at Lukas hard. For the past few weeks, close to a month, a few days after they arrived on the Western Island, Luke had been given information about Lukas' outrageous plan.

At first, he had thought Lukas was an overconfident bastard who overestimated his abilities. However, the reality of their current circumstances forced him to see things in a different light.

Luke frowned, "Then what about the Central Island? Those Mutants are bound to be a headache to deal with too, right?"

Lukas smiled coldly, "You don't need to worry about them. They are the prize. As long as we defeat the Blood Demon, we'll take care of them as well."

Luke's brows twiched, 'Bastard...'

Although he was furious, he kept his mouth shut. The last thing he wanted was to get on the insane bastard's bad side.

Lukas let out a sigh, "I've told you what I want, right?" He began walking along the inner circumference of the wall, causing Luke to follow slightly behind him.

"Dominance... This world isn't what it once was. Everyone had returned to zero. We have all been dealt equals hands. Well, most of us..." He paused.

He then continued, "That's why we need to seize as many advantages as we possibly can. To be honest with you, I do not hate the Blood Demon. He and I are very similar actually."

Luke scoffed, "That much is very obvious. You are both lunatics blinded by personal power and ambition, believing they can grasp the world with their hands if they so wished."

Lukas turned around. His eyes that hid a passing glint of madness stared staright into Luke's,

"That's very accurate." A soft smile blossomed on his very handsome face.

Then he shrugged, "Which is also why we can't coexist. One of us has to die. There can only be one conqueror. The rest are the conquered."

Luke chuckled coldly, "You are really stuck in your fantasies, aren't you..."

Luke truly believed that people like Lukas and Guy were people that had finally given in to their depraved and dark fantasies. Because of the old order of the world, they had been unable to act on their desires. But now...

Now, their baleful wings had finally been unclipped...

"That's where you are wrong, Luke... Your mind is too closed. You see..."

A made expression consumed his face,

"This world... is a fantasy!"

Luke glared at him. Lukas merely chuckled,

"The rules that had us bound before are all gone. Man now has access to power far beyond his belief and imagination. If this isn't fantasy, what is?"

Luke truly had no way to respond. He recognized the truth in Lukas' words. However, he still couldn't accept it. Getting carried away was fine. However, some people could take things to the extreme by getting rid of their humanity and morality.

That was where the problem was...

"You truly are insane..."

The mad glint in his eyes dissipated,

"Maybe. Prepare your boys. We will begin in the next two weeks. This should be enough time for preparations."

Luke was silent for a while before sighing,

"Understood."

With a wave of his hand, Lukas left Luke behind to be with his thoughts

***

Lukas appeared in a slightly bigger than average room that was equipped with nothing more than a desk, a chair, and a painting of a bleeding angel with chained wings behind the two pieces of furniture, as well as a couch.

There was a bestacled young man who looked to be between the ages of nineteen and twenty, seated on the couch, his buried in a thick black tome.

The moment Lukas appeared in the room, he took his face out of the book. Smiling at Lukas, he closed the book,

"How did it go?"

Lukas shrugged, "As you would expect. He hasn't accepted reality completely, but that's fine as well. I can't expect him to comprehend the scope of our ambition."

Zue, the bestacled young man shook his head,

"Of course. There will always be unbelievers regardless of the circumstances."

Lukas smiled, "I couldn't help but notice the runes and sigils on the walls. You did a very good job."

Zue looked a bit embarrassed, "Well, I can't possibly take all the credit. Suki was the one who built the wall. She's the impressive one here!"

Lukas smiled. Then his expression turned serious,

"How are the other preparations coming together?"

Zue answered immediately, "The others have been taking their squads hunting on rotation. Their powers are climbing rapidly. We might meet our goal even before the two week deadline."

"Good..." Lukas said flatly. All signs of a smile were completely gone from his face, replaced with a terrifying grimace.

Zue had a look of realization on his face,

"By the way, what are we going to call ourselves?"

"Hmm?" Lukas didn't understand at first.

Zue smiled, "We obviously need a name to go by. We can't start a conquest without a name, right?"

Lukas chuckled, "Then how about Lightslayers?"

Zue had an astonished look on his face.

Seeing that made Lukas' grin even wider,

"Yes... I think Lightslayers will be a fitting name."
