Chapter 257 Innate Skill (Part 2)
Chapter 257 Innate Skill (Part 2)
?
''What was that skill? I didn't hear you chanting any name while you were using it," Raydon asked with a hint of curiosity.
He couldn't help but notice the striking similarity to what had transpired earlier in the meeting room when he showcased his mastery of the domain technique. As the destructive power of his domain engulfed the room, he witnessed the emergence of mysterious barriers that formed around Zephyr and the others, effectively shielding them from the presence of his aura.
''What? Are you telling me that you don't know what an innate skill is?" Zephyr questioned, taken aback by his inquiry.
Considering all of the high-tier techniques that Raydon had shown them, as well as the two supreme techniques that he possessed on it, he was surprised to find out that he lacked such basic information.
'I'm becoming more and more intrigued by the mystery surrounding this young man. ' Zephyr was even more perplexed after realizing from his expression that he wasn't joking.
Then he started to explain, hoping that he would soon learn everything.
"This is one of my two innate skills. When an item holder advances to the D-Rank, they unlock a new ability that is referred to as an innate skill slot. When you have this skill slot, you can choose an item skill and detach it from the item, so that you no longer need the item to use it. The skill I just demonstrated is a movement-type skill that I chose as my innate skill. ''
While Zephyr was talking, all of a sudden he broke out in a sly grin and continued. ''I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but my movement-type skill is the best of all the members of this family. It's a blue-grade skill that lets me and one additional person quickly teleport between locations I've been to. I do, of course, have a daily usage cap and other limitations, but it's still a great skill to save my ass in difficult situations. Hahaha. ''
While Zephyr was delightedly laughing, he said to Raydon.
''Oh, by the way, the dagger's skill that was just gifted to you is better than mine, and it also has the element of death other than space, so from now on, I suppose I'll be known as the second-best in terms of movement-based skills within our family. ''
When Raydon heard this, he immediately recalled the item description that he had read a while ago, and a smile broke out on his face without his conscious effort. With the new knowledge about innate skills and the new skill he would acquire once the binding processes were finished, he thought it would be really cool. In particular, one that was similar to Zephyr's skill, which he liked very much.
"And when you reach C-Rank, you will be able to obtain another innate skill slot. " When Zephyr sensed his excitement, he spoke further while widening his smile.
He carried on speaking as a flimsy blue barrier suddenly materialized around him. ''This is the other innate skill that I have chosen for myself. You are free to choose however you see fit, but the vast majority of item holders, including myself, go with the defensive type.''
After observing his demonstration, Raydon indicated his agreement with a nod. It made perfect sense to select one of the two innate skills for movement and the other for defense.
''What about higher ranks? How many innate skill slots do they get?'' Raydon inquired.
"After C-Rank, B-Rank item holders get 4 innate skill slots and higher than B-Ranks. '' Zephyr paused and sighed before continuing. "Well, they are just monsters so I'm not even sure what their limit is. ''
Raydon was at a loss for words when he learned this. He was also aware that there was a huge difference in power between a mid-rank and a high-rank; however, now that he was observing Zephyr's demeanor, he realized that the difference in power was even greater than he had anticipated.
''Oh, it seems like this is the end of our small talk. They are finally here. '' Zephyr looked at the end of the dark, torch-lit corridor and said, as he saw Cael with his black wings approaching at an incredible speed.
After Cael came to their side and folded his wings, it wasn't long before a green gas began to seep through the large stones that formed the walls of the corridor. It gathered in one spot beside them, and Arden began to take shape almost immediately afterward.
''As always brother, you are third. '' When Zephyr saw Arden's displeased expression, he laughed and said.
''We are not here for a childish race, Zephyr. We have an important meeting to attend.'' Arden said this while turning his head and looking at the other people who were approaching.
Thalia was making a hasty approach from the end of the corridor. She had wings that were comparable to Cael's but were significantly smaller than his and white in color. In a relatively short distance behind her, Seren was rapidly approaching on a blue water wave, and Elara was similarly approaching on a green water wave.
"Only one person is missing. '' Cael, who could see that everyone had gathered, waited for Diam, who was still hidden from view, and soon enough, she too appeared at the end of the corridor.
"This woman truly does have a natural talent for making people fear her," Zephyr said as he looked at the enormous centipede that was racing towards them, drop by drop of yellow liquid that dripped from its colossal, menacing jaws that sizzled upon contact with the ground, emitting a sinister hiss, and at Diam, who was standing on its head calmly without any emotion on her face.
"Well, it seems that we have all gathered now. "
Seeing that everyone had finally gathered, Cael said as he turned to face the massive 6-meter wooden door that stood behind him, giving off an air of antiquity and being decorated with mysterious and dazzling shapes.
After carefully studying the door, which he had last crossed many years ago, Cael's voice took on a serious tone. "Behind this door," he said, "lies the long-awaited answer to all of your questions."
