Chapter 846 - To The Death Lord
Chapter 846 - To The Death Lord
Jason had expected a fight to break out between the two Shadow walker prodigies.
But, he could have never expected that the second prodigy would sacrifice himself just to prevent his own kind from exposing even more information.
That was a drastic measure considering that he didn't know the situation or why the Shadow walker prodigy who had woken up first, revealed all kinds of secrets.
However, fortunately enough, Jason had noticed what would happen early enough.
If not for his sharp senses,? he and Jennifer would have died too.
In fact, it was scary enough to just look at the red Miasma.
Yet, after seeing the energy streams through his Emperor Eyes, Jason felt goosebumps spreading over his entire body.
He couldn't even explain what exactly he was seeing, but if he were to describe it, the whole red Miasma felt like a sentient and living being!
The moving energy currents were intertwined with some sort of mixture of lifeforce and an unknown type of energy.
This made them unique, and oddly intriguing to Jason.
Nevertheless, it felt much more dangerous than it was interesting.
Trusting his gut feeling, Jason continued to retreat the more the red Miasma expanded.
In the end, it dispersed into nothingness.
But before that, it drained the life and energy out of everything it touched.
Thus, the small area of the forest had withered which the Miasma had touched.
It had sucked the vitality and life out of everything, leaving nothing but death behind.
Lifeless trees crumbled before they fell over, while the lush grass was now pale yellow in color, dry and perished.
Even the soil below had changed in color, causing Jason to be a little bit flabbergasted.
However, he quickly got a hold of himself and by taking a look at Jennifer, he saw that she was fine too.
He was still holding her in a tight grasp, but when he noticed this, Jason let go of her.
While continuing to stare at the once green field that looked no better than a desolate piece of land right now, it was impossible not to be impressed by the ability of the now deceased Shadow walker prodigy.
After all, the red Miasma could be turned into a means of mass destruction if used properly.
It was almost as if some Shadow walkers were trained to sacrifice themselves if the situation on the battlefield or in some other incident were to become too dangerous.
This was most likely exactly what had just happened, and Jason predicted that all Shadow walkers had learned this technique.
He had no idea if that was truly the case, but thinking that every single one of them could sacrifice their life force and energy to activate some sort of racial ability, was the best he could come up with.
After all, this thought could save him from being overconfident.
The belief that the Shadow walker weaker than him would be unable to even hurt him would be his doom.
With the red Miasma even the weakest of them could certainly injure and even kill him.
As such, Jason had to be careful of advancing further while fighting Shadow walkers.
He hadn't done it earlier owing to the fact that he was alone in the middle of their rows but now he couldn't risk it.
In the end, nobody would intentionally kill their comrades as long as the situation was not against their odds, and impossible to win anymore.
Averting his attention from the gloomy field, he looked at Jennifer before he smiled lightly and asked,
"How about we go and take a look at the Shiman camp? I heard that there are a few people I know…and someone I want to show how it feels to be betrayed by their own people!"
When Jason began to speak, it sounded like he was joking, considering the situation to be quite easy.
However, when he ended his sentence, Jennifer couldn't help but feel a little bit confused.
"Is..it about the Lord of Death, again?"
Until now, Jason had never said much about his past, even less about the things that had happened on Argos.
Because of that, Jennifer had always believed that Jason loathed the time he had spent on his home planet.
Yet, the more time she spent with him, the less likely it seemed.
She had paid attention to his words and could recall that there were quite a few people Jason had mentioned once or twice already.
However, knowing that Jason's only family, that is his mother, was dead, and the fact that his masters on Argos had also died, it was not difficult to imagine what he felt about the place.
It was complex and far from easy, just like her emotions concerning her parents and master.
Thus, she didn't want to ask Jason something he didn't want to answer.
But seeing him nodding his head nonchalantly in response emboldened her.
Wanting to know more about him, Jennifer couldn't help but continue asking,
"Can you tell me more about your past, and what happened with the Lord of Death, that you are so eager to kill him?"
By turning his head a little, he looked directly into the depth of Jennifer's eyes.
She was looking at him with confidence, her interest in his past apparent by the glint in her eyes.
Jennifer desperately wanted to know more about him and his life before she had met him.
Seeing this, Jason, who hadn't planned to tell her the boring story of his life, which was filled with more petty emotions and useless grudges than one could think, decided to open up a little.
After all, Lux had only shot him in his shoulder, yet, he wanted to kill Lux!
Yet, after thinking about it a third time, killing Lux might be the nicer option.
Jason had once even considered damaging Lux's soul world to the extent that he would never be able to use it again.
However, that would be worse than killing Lux, which was not exactly what Jason had wanted to do.
In fact, Lux had killed and tortured many more people other than him in order to make use of their corpses.
As such, Jason wouldn't feel bad about anything he did to Lux, and it was not like he was a saint, to begin with, either!
With that in mind, he would await the moment of his re-encounter with Lux.
But for now, it was time for him to tell Jennifer his story!
This didn't take long because he cut to the chase, and told Jennifer only about the important things.
Unfortunately, this made his story less interesting than it truly was, but Jennifer realized that Jason left out a lot. He had wrapped the painful experience of the death of his soulbond and masters in a single sentence after all.
Owing to this, Jennifer clearly knew that the memories still hurt him like a long-forgotten wound that would hurt when you touched it.
Even if did not actively dwell on those memories on a daily basis, the loved ones he had lost held a special place in his heart.
His mind was still tormented with guilt, even though he could have done nothing to change their fate.
He was young and thus, obviously also weak at that time.
Because of that, she didn't say anything after Jason ended his story but tightly hugged him.
This was unexpected, and Jason stiffened for a moment, only to return the hug.
Afterward, they decided that it was best to leave the Julandra region for the time being.
They wished to take a look at the Shiman camp that was, in fact, a place at which the humans with a soul world were being trained.
There was much more information one had to know, but the most important fact for Jason was that they would most likely encounter Lux there!
If he was not there, he was probably nearby.
He could most likely be in a certain area the Shadow walker prodigy had been unable to mention or hint at because he had never entered it.
With that in mind, Jason stated in a confident voice,
"Let's go…to the Lord of Death!"
