"You are not meant to be here."
The sentence was plain and simple, and it was also quite clear that it had no intention
of giving Ailsa a millennia like it had given Ryu.
However, Ailsa seemed entirely indifferent to it.
"Then see if you can do something about it," she said calmly.
The ancient voice fell into silence before its aura locked onto Eska and Isemeine. But it still didn't say anything as it once again turned its attention to Hope.
Something about this place seemed odd.
And then the ancient voice hummed again, seemingly understanding something. In the end...
Its aura locked onto Ryu once more.
"I will give you 100 years."
Ryu frowned.
For one, he didn't like being commanded. Second, he disliked being jerked around just as much.
He had just been given a thousand years, but then without reason or explanation, it had suddenly been shrunk to 900 years.
However, to the ancient voice, it only made sense.
Whether it was Ailsa, Eska, Isemeine, or Hope, not a single one of them was actually a Chosen. The only reason why their Fates were so jumbled up and difficult to read was because of their connection with Ryu.
Hope was especially a mess because she had tied her Fate to Ryu completely. Meaning, their Fates were practically identical when that made no sense at all.
Then there was Ryu's Fate itself. He seemed to have been manipulated in one part, and then he had a second life, and all of that ended up extending the time it took for the Heavenly Court to find him.
If not for the interference of the Martial Gods, Ryu would have probably already been sensed by the Heavenly Court long ago in Sacrum and he would have followed the normal path of a Chosen.
But that was precisely why the situation was so complicated, and also why the ancient voice had no choice but to shorten the time frame.
Anyone who could mess with the Fate of a Chosen was a problem. And if they were working on that sort of scale, it meant they had a purpose for doing so that was
maybe even beyond this voice's paygrade.
The less time Ryu spent in Greater Existence, the better. That was the only way to manage the Fate of Existence and stop the world from collapsing in on itself.
There were enough rogues in the cultivation world; they didn't need for there to be others.
The ancient voice could see Ryu's dissatisfaction, but it wasn't the first time he had seen such a thing. Maybe Ryu even had the intention of ignoring his words. Whatever it was, it didn't matter.
Between Ryu's feelings and the Fate of Existence, there wasn't even a choice to be made.
If Ryu listened, then good.
If not, he would find himself as a small boat in the middle of a raging ocean.
Even Ailsa had to take a step back from the Heavenly Court to regroup; what more of Ryu who wasn't even a Dao Lord yet.
The voice disappeared from the world and the Heaven's Gates closed.
From start to finish, Ryu didn't bother to say anything. It would have been a waste of his time, and despite what he had said to Sarriel, these days he still preferred to let his actions do the talking instead. As for anything that would come afterward, that would be decided by his fists.
First, he would need to figure out how to perfect his entry into the Lord Realm. For some reason, he had a feeling that the Title Stele wouldn't be so simple. And given the changes to his eyes, a "feeling" to Ryu now might as well have been a sneak peek into the future.
Without the burden of his incompatible Spacetime Soul Nature layering on top of it, Ryu's eyes felt almost lighter in a way, and their abilities were far more shocking now than they had ever been.
This so-called Chosen title was interesting, but not enough for him to truly care very much. He had been called that once before when the Heavenly Knights of Sacrum descended during the ascent of the Martial God youths.
Back then, the Heavenly Knight had asked him why he was betraying them when he was their Chosen. He didn't think much about it then, and he still didn't think much of
it now.
As for what it meant, it was likely related to Sacrum and how it had chosen him to be a champion of some sort for it. That would certainly explain his talent, but oddly enough, the ancient voice seemed to also imply that whatever blessings Sacrum gave him carried over into other worlds as well. And that would be why he had experienced the luck he had in his life.
Could Ryu be considered lucky? He would say so.
In the past, he might have been unwilling to accept such a thing, or maybe even outright reject it, but he knew better now, and it honestly didn't bother him.
It would take quite a lot to make a hypocrite feel bothered.
He smiled to himself, feeling that his own joke was quite amusing and true at the same time.
Why bother about his other lives, and whether this Ryu was the real one, or if he was only a product of his upbringing and luck, when it didn't matter to him one way or
another.
What he knew was this life, and since it was his last, he might as well reach the top of the world on this casual stroll of his.
Ryu grunted slightly and a fragrant wind came barreling into his arms. He looked
down to find that it was Hope.
"... You're hugging me too tightly," he eventually managed to squeeze out.
"You deserve this," she replied.
"Uh... what did I do?" Ryu asked with a laugh.
"Too dangerous. And also, why are you waving that thing around everywhere? It's
private!"
That was when Ryu remembered he was still naked.
