Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship

Chapter 53 - Blindness - part 1

Chapter 53 - Blindness - part 1

Yang Yi cleared his mind of distractions and focused on the enemy in front of him.

It was the Spider Queen, who had just recovered. Although she had lost two of her front legs, it didn't seem to affect her mobility; she could still crawl with the rest.

“I should have just ripped all her legs off. Let’s see how she’d crawl over now…” Yang Yi regretted not doing so.

He made his mind to cripple or kill completely whichever creature he encountered that might be playing dead.

They stood about 20 metres apart, staring each other down.

The situation was very unfavourable for Yang Yi.

His flintlock gun was in cooldown, leaving him with only the Sea Serpent’s Fang as a weapon!

Suddenly, the Spider Queen let out a screech from her crooked, withered head and charged at him like a tank.

Perhaps due to the missing legs, her balance seemed a bit off.

Yang Yi turned and fled, downing the red potion that enhanced his attributes while he ran.

As soon as he drank it, his mouth felt like it was filled with molten lava.

?You have consumed an unknown potion?

?Your body feels hot, sweating heavily. Strength +1, Agility +1, Constitution +1, Perception +1, Sanity -20, effect lasts for 15 minutes.?

The potion’s details became visible.

?Name: Crimson Potion?

?Type: Consumable/Potion/Unique?

?Quality: Premium?

?Description: A potion created by the witch Suna. Tastes fiery, and drinking water during its effect is not advised. Increases all attributes except Spirit by +1, causes excessive sweating and reddening of the skin, lasting 15 minutes. PS: Attributes cannot exceed biological limits. ?

The potion was effective, though unpleasant to drink.

Yang Yi’s sanity dropped to 1, putting him in a state of madness, and combined with the potion's effects, his attributes (except Spirit) were all boosted by +1, making his overall stats as follows:

Strength: 5 + 2 + 1

Spirit: 8 + 1 - 2 (Steel Will +1)
Agility: 5 + 1 + 1 + 1
Constitution: 5 + 1 + 1
Perception: 5 + 1 + 2

(Madness: Strength +2, Agility +1, Constitution +1. )

With his Perception, Strength, and Agility all reaching 8, Yang Yi felt as light as air, almost like he could fly.

His Spirit had also levelled up to 8, thanks to the vast amount of experience gained from his recent sanity losses.

Yang Yi sprinted towards the shattered statue and hid among the debris.

Rubble of various sizes was scattered everywhere, with some pieces towering over ten metres high.

While he managed to weave through the mess, the Spider Queen, due to her large size, found it difficult to get to him immediately.

“I need to kill the Spider Queen before the potion’s effects wear off!” Yang Yi's gaze was cold as he picked up a perfectly intact spider egg, fed it to his stomach pouch, and retrieved the silk gland and the dead spider’s venom.

It enraged the Spider Queen.

Spider eggs were already in short supply in the egg chamber, with most of them having been crushed by the falling rubble. Seeing Yang Yi deliberately run towards areas with more eggs, crushing them one by one, drove the Queen into a frenzy.

She let out a piercing shriek and charged recklessly at him, no longer avoiding the smaller rubble in her path, smashing through it with brute force.

Yang Yi remained calm. He had intentionally provoked her.

He now stood beneath a massive chunk of debris, waiting for the Spider Queen’s inevitable collision.

Boom!

A violent crash sent dust flying and gravel scattering everywhere.

The Spider Queen didn’t hit Yang Yi directly. Instead, a nimble shadow descended from the sky, catching hold of a web and landing on the Queen’s back.

At the last second, Yang Yi had used the silk gland to shoot webs to the top of the giant debris, pulling himself up.

As the Queen reeled from the impact, her head momentarily dazed, Yang Yi leapt onto her back.

The sequence of moves was smooth, like a perfectly choreographed performance. Even professional gymnasts would be left speechless.

But it wasn’t purely skill — it was thanks to the "Third Eye."

The unique perspective granted by the Third Eye gave Yang Yi an extraordinary sense of distance and balance, allowing him to perform difficult manoeuvres.

It was almost like...he had become Spider-Man!

The combination of web-spinning and the silk gland gave Yang Yi the ability to move in three dimensions!

He climbed onto the Spider Queen’s back, quickly making his way to her head. With the Sea Serpent’s Fang in hand, he firmly grasped the humanoid torso’s head and sliced it off in one swift motion.

The cut was clean, severing the spine with ease.

Dark red blood gushed out from the wound.

Bubbles formed on the exposed skin, resembling burns — a side effect of the Sea Serpent’s Fang’s fire poison, further intensified by the venom coating the blade.

The shrivelled head fell into Yang Yi’s hand.

The Spider Queen, now grievously wounded, let out a sharp, high-pitched scream from below.

She still had a spider head!

Losing only one wouldn’t kill her outright.

Yang Yi crouched low, but the enraged Spider Queen violently threw him off, preventing him from maintaining his balance.

He was flung through the air, slamming into a pile of rubble, coughing up blood as the impact sent a sharp pain through his chest.

Despite the pain, he kept his eyes on the Spider Queen, pushing off the ground just in time to dodge a mass of sticky webbing.

If he had been caught, it would have been over for him.

“This monster is tough to kill...” Yang Yi muttered, his frustration mounting.

He had tried attacking her, but the Queen’s head was covered in an extremely hard exoskeleton, impenetrable even to the Sea Serpent’s Fang.

He needed to strike at her weak spot!

Yang Yi shifted his focus to the Spider Queen’s eyes. She had six of them, arranged in two rows on her head, and Yang Yi could see them clearly.

The first row had two large eyes, and the second row had four smaller compound eyes.

Even though they were compound eyes, each one was the size of a fist, and Yang Yi was confident he could hit them!

As he ran, he checked the silk gland’s capacity and found he still had 86 units left — enough to use!

He picked up some small stones at his feet, using the spider silk to bind them together with the Sea Serpent's Fang, crafting a makeshift flail.

Once finished, Yang Yi revealed himself and hurled the flail toward the Spider Queen’s eyes.

Thanks to the Third Eye, Yang Yi had become a sharpshooter, whether using guns, bows, or even this metre-long silk flail — it would hit its mark!

The first strike landed squarely on one of the Spider Queen’s large eyes, causing her to pause.

Seeing his success, Yang Yi quickly retrieved the flail and continued to move, not staying in one spot.

“Arrgghh!!!”

The Spider Queen was on the verge of being driven mad by Yang Yi.

The battle between man and spider continued. Yang Yi, using his small size and elusive movements, struck multiple times, eventually blinding three of the Spider Queen’s compound eyes.

With her eyes repeatedly damaged, the Spider Queen grew sluggish, frequently crashing into the massive pieces of rubble in her path. Despite her tough exoskeleton, she began to suffer injuries, especially on her abdomen, where the shell was thinner, leaving a deep gash.

Yang Yi wasn’t in great shape either. The intense running had drained his stamina, leaving him with only 12 points left. If this continued, he would have to start using his vitality to compensate for his energy.

Then, with another sudden strike from the flail, he shattered the Spider Queen’s last compound eye.

Now, she had only one large eye left.

Although she was protecting it well, her blindness was inevitable!

Just at that moment, it seemed like the Queen was pushed to her limit and had a breakthrough.

Her tail curled upward, shooting a thick strand of web towards the ceiling of the cavern, and she quickly climbed up, using the web to ascend.

Not only that, but she began crawling upside down along the ceiling...seemingly defying gravity!

Yang Yi couldn’t understand how such a heavy spider could move like that.

And the ceiling was almost metres high, far out of his reach. He only had about ten units of silk left in his gland, barely enough for one final attack.
