Chapter 809: Cornerstone

“We’re at the yearly graduation season again, huh?” Zuo Cidian held up his tea cup, drank half, and sighed deeply. When he was under Ling Ran, he was only forty-two years old. However, he now felt as if he was forty-five years old.

If a person was over forty-five years old, that person was no longer considered young.

Next, he could not apply for the Thousand Talent Program, Ten Thousand Talent Program, Chang Jiang Scholars Program, the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, or the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, anymore. People who were no longer young and who were forty-five years of age can only compete with in the Innovative 1000 Talents plan, Yangtze River scholars, and other titles, which would be much more difficult.

When he thought about how he might not be able to become a national talent in his whole life, Zuo Cidian could not help but sigh again. As he watched Qiu Hui, Qu Xiaoyu, and other housemen standing in the office, he said, “How nice it is to be young. You have limitless possibilities.”

“Mister Zuo, you’re still young.” Qiu Hui suddenly bent over and filled Zuo Cidian’s tea cup with tea.

Zuo Cidian was stunned for a moment. He could not help but re-examine the young man in front of him. He grinned. “Young man, you’re good. You’re pretty street-wise.”

Zuo Cidian did feel mentally exhausted in Ling Ran’s treatment group. Without counting in Ling Ran, if he ranked the people from the top to the bottom of Ling Ran’s treatment group in terms of flattery, Yu Yuan, Lu Wenbin, Ma Yanlin, and Zhang Anmin cannot be regarded as qualified flatterers. Their day-to-day flattering was already bad, and they could not even be expected to pour tea or anything else.

The housemen and interns who rotated to their group often had the heart to flatter their superiors, but did not have the skills to do so, let alone pour tea. Sometimes, they even flattered the person to the point of embarrassment …

By Zuo Cidian’s judgment, the newcomer Qu Xiaoxuan was a young flatterer, but all he had was skill, his movements were still like that of a newborn baby.

Zuo Cidian was, however, quite fond of Qiu Hui’s posture while he poured tea. It was not feigned and was very natural. It did not reek of helplessness as if he was forced by society to do so, neither did it have the stiffness of someone who was trying to force his way to blend into society. What was even rarer was that it was not unnatural. It was refreshing and charming, and it gave others the feeling that his actions were very smooth, but yet not fake and empty…

Zuo Cidian raised the tea cup which Qiu Hui poured and took a sip.

Qiu Hui was also a little reassured and smiled, “I used to go to the company with my dad, and I poured tea for my dad’s employees in each office, so I have a bit of experience in pouring tea.”

“Well, it’s good to be young. Young people are not afraid of shame when they do this kind of thing, and they’re able to be shameless.” Zuo Cidian threw his head back and laughed, “Why can’t newcomers with high education survive in the workplace? Actually, it’s not because he or she has a high education, but it’s because he’s too old, but still new to the workforce.”

The forty-four-year-old new resident doctor, Zuo Cidian, felt tearful when he said these words.

Zhang Anmin also felt emotional as he listened. Looking at Qiu Hui’s clean white coat, and his pair of fashionable Yeezies that were very valuable at a glance and were unlikely to be fake, he lamented. “How nice it is to have a family company. When I was a kid, I wanted to pour tea to my uncles. Unfortunately, my uncles didn’t have tea leaves at home, and they didn’t dare to let me use the kettle. If it broke, my family couldn’t afford it.”

Several of the people present laughed out loud.

Lu Wenbin laughed the loudest. “Old Zhang, after you became an assistant lecturer, you turned into someone with a richer life experience.”

Zhang Anmin looked at Lu Wenbin with the dignity of an assistant lecturer.

Lu Wenbin gradually felt diffident and asked, “Is it true?”

“It’s true.” Zhang Anmin nodded his head solemnly.

Lu Wenbin gasped emotionlessly.

The doctors smiled emotionlessly.

Qiu Hui silently retreated back to the other two housemen. It was very dangerous to join in the conversation of the experts.

Suddenly, Zuo Cidian sat upright, faced the computer, and acted as if he was working hard.

After a few seconds, the office turned quiet, for some unknown reason.

Several housemen looked at each other. As soon as they had an idea of what was going on, they heard the sound of footsteps, and someone stepped in.

Zuo Cidian stood up and said, “Doctor Ling, is the surgery completed?”

“Yep.” Ling Ran nodded.

“Doctor Ling, I have filled up the cases.” Lu Wenbin also put away his pride of having a BMW 525.

Zhang Anming smiled slightly. “Today, the rounds at the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery are all done. There are not many problems.”

Ling Ran nodded slightly and gave an approving smile.

There was instantly a happy atmosphere in the office.

Then, Ling Ran returned to his office, and the atmosphere in the room became normal again.

The three housemen looked at each other and felt like they had gained an understanding of the world.

“Let’s go, I’ll take you guys around.” Zuo Cidian stood up.

Qiu Hui followed behind him as he said, “Sorry for the trouble, Doctor Zuo.”

“Don’t mention it, it’s no trouble. The Emergency Department has now upgraded to an Emergency Medical Center. There are too many people and many things. If I don’t bring you guys around, others would be too lazy to.”

Qiu Hui and the others looked around, and it turned out that all the other doctors looked busy.

Even their clinical tutor Lu Wenbin seemed to have ignored them as if he had sold them off.

Zuo Cidian placed his hands behind his back and took the three housemen with him as he slowly walked toward the emergency area.

When they stepped out of the elevator, the chaotic noises of people shouting and crashing into stuff could be heard.

There was a doctor in a white coat standing proudly in the crowd that moved hurriedly back and forth while they were covered in sweat. He was like a pillar, like a beacon in a river, and he gave people an infinite sense of peace.

All three housemen look at the doctor with admiration. He was only of average height, but he gave off a sense of security.

All the doctors’ goal when they joined the Emergency Department was to become a doctor who can withstand the pressure and make decisions to give people a sense of reliability while also being able to save lives.

“Doctor Zhou, you’re busy, I see.” Zuo Cidian started.

The person in the white coat standing in the middle of the crowd turned around slowly and smiled slowly. “Oh, Old Zuo.”

“Hey, don’t tell me you just fell asleep standing again?” Zuo Cidian looked at Doctor Zhou with envy. No matter what, things will be different once someone becomes an attending physician.

Doctor Zhou waved his hand. “Just for a moment.”

“I brought a few people to help you.” Zuo Cidian then gave Doctor Zhou a smile that said, “You should know what I’m talking about.”

“Oh,” Doctor Zhou and woke up instantly. The smile on his face was sincere, “Where are they from?”

“They’re our team’s housemen, Doctor Ling has few operations today, so we’re lending them to you for a day.”

“Housemen are good, they are much more useful than interns.” Doctor Zhou cheerfully waved them over, “You over there! Come over here quick! Didn’t you just say that you’re lacking manpower?”

“Oh, okay, I’m going to use them for a while later.” An ordinary and ugly resident doctor stepped forward and nodded at the three housemen, signaling that the transfer was done.

“What’s happening in a while?” Doctor Zhou asked offhandedly.

“Two police officers were injured on duty, and it will take about forty minutes to get them from the suburbs.” The ordinary and ugly resident doctor glanced at the clock on the wall and corrected himself. “Thirty-five minutes.”

“Oh, then I’ll wait for them to come, we’re not doing other operations.” Doctor Zhou nodded solemnly.

The three housemen immediately showed idolizing expressions.

The ordinary and ugly resident doctor sighed heavily and did not dare to expose the true nature behind why Doctor Zhou decided to stay.

“Do your best, and if you have any questions, find a senior doctor.” Doctor Zhou was very satisfied with the young doctors’ admiration as he smiled and informed them. The new housemen boisterously responded, Qiu Hui even proactively asked, “Teacher, where are the injured two policemen? Can we help?”

“It’s a blunt force trauma. We don’t know the specifics yet.” After the resident doctor finished speaking, he suddenly asked, “Do you have a dog?”

The two housemen shook their heads. Qiu Hui said, “I have a Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Samoyed, and German Shepherd in my family, and one Border Collie.”

The resident doctor gave Qiu Hui a strange look, and said, “Then you stay. There is a policewoman with a police dog. The dog that follows her seems very fierce.”
