Great Doctor Ling Ran

Chapter 911: Fresh

Chapter 911: Fresh

“Doctor Ling, let’s take a rest.” Doctor Yan’s eyes were lifeless, and he looked as tired as a doctor from the Ling Treatment Group.

Ling Ran, who had just resuscitated a patient, raised his head and saw that the mission column on the system’s interface had changed.

[Mission: Treat the Wounded and Sick- New (New)]

[Mission Details: Resuscitate 10 patients in the ICU (10/10) and complete combined stomach and liver radical surgery]

[Mission Reward: Cardiac Trauma Repair (Master Level) and a bottle of Energy Serum]

Just like that, he completed his initial mission to resuscitate 10 patients in the ICU. Ling Ran nodded internally and glanced at the clock. He then said to Attending Physician Yan who could not even stand up straight anymore, “I’m going to leave and rest now. It’s not time for you to get off work yet, is it?”

“It’s not time yet?” Doctor Yan froze for a moment and sighed. “Time is passing really slowly today.”

There were only first-string doctors and second-string doctors in Yun Hua Hospital’s ICU.

All the moderately experienced doctors including attending physicians and junior doctors were first-string doctors, and they had to be on shift in the ICU whether it was day or night. They barely got any rest. Compared to the attending physicians in the Emergency Department where doctors were divided into first-string, second-string, and third-string doctors, the attending physicians in the ICU had a harder time.

There was no helping it. The situation was different in the ICU compared to the Emergency Department, and there had to be experienced doctors in the ICU at all times.

However, resuscitating patients like this together with Ling Ran was a little over the boundaries of Doctor Yan’s experience.

Doctor Yan massaged his aching arms. He muttered the same thing over and over again today, “We’ve performed way too many CPRs today, and they’re way too long.”

“But we managed to save those patients.” Ling Ran massaged his shoulders too. He then grabbed a bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer and rubbed his hands while he was at it. He said to Doctor Yan, “Why don’t I give you a massage?”

Doctor Yan froze for a moment and nodded. The moment Ling Ran placed his hands on Doctor Yan’s neck, the latter finally realized what Ling Ran meant.

“Doctor Ling, you’ve worked hard too. This is too embarrassing… Mmm…” Doctor Yan only resisted for a short while before closing his eyes.

‘This is way too comfortable.

‘How can it be this comfortable?’

“Do doctors in the Emergency Department get treated like this every day?” Doctor Yan knew that this was impossible, but he could not help but feel jealous.

Ling Ran smiled nonchalantly. “If they’ve performed a major surgery or done something rather tiring such as prolonged CPR, I’ll give them a massage.”

Doctor Yan trembled violently when he heard the phrase “prolonged CPR”, and he became wide awake.

Why was he tremendously tired even though it was not time to get off work yet? It was because Ling Ran insisted on performing prolonged CPR.

Aside from that, Ling Ran was extremely strict when it came to the quality of the chest compression performed during prolonged CPR. It was almost to the point that he was only kind of satisfied with Doctor Yan’s performance, who was an attending physician.

When he thought about how tiring things were for the past few hours, Doctor Yan suddenly felt that it was not really worth it to work so much just for a massage…

He could only feel fortunate that Ling Ran did not work in the ICU.

When he thought of this, Doctor Yan realized something else. He turned to look at Ling Ran and said in a solemn tone, “Doctor Ling, you should really go back and rest. You belong to the Emergency Department, after all. You’ve been in the ICU for too long.”

Even though it felt excellent to have Ling Ran help out while he was on shift, if Ling Ran felt entitled to help out at the ICU whenever he wanted to, it would be too dangerous… Especially since he liked performing prolonged CPR so much…

“Alright. I’ll go and rest, then.” Ling Ran did not give it much thought, though. The ICU did not only consist of patients from the Emergency Department. Instead, it was responsible for patients who were sent over from all the departments in the hospital. It might be convenient for the Emergency Department to take over the ICU, but patients from other departments needed treatment and care too. Ling Ran was not so powerful that he could control all the departments in the hospital yet, so he did not plan to open this closet full of skeletons.

Truth be told, to ensure that he could complete the system’s mission, Ling Ran had already drunk a bottle of Energy Serum today. He could not help but think about how this mission only rewarded him with Cardiac Trauma Repair (Master Level) and a bottle of Energy Serum. Since he used up one bottle of Energy Serum just to complete the mission, it was almost a losing deal.

It was not like Ling Ran could waste all of his time in the ICU and forget about his main duty, anyway.

Doctor Yan could not care less about what Ling Ran was thinking about. He quickly sent Ling Ran away.

He had been working in the ICU for around ten years, but with Ling Ran’s presence, today could be said to be the toughest day in his career.

Even if he were to disregard other things, the resuscitating of patients definitely required CPR, and 30 minutes was usually the maximum time doctors would spend on CPR. Even if they were to do it for a full 30 minutes, for the last 20 minutes, they would usually perform as horribly as an intern.

In Chinese hospitals, many of the times, even if there was already no hope for the patients, the patients’ family members liked it when the doctors looked like they were trying their best to save the patients. Hospitals also upheld the policy that the dead were kings, so the hospitals had no choice but to fulfill the patients’ family members’ desire to try and resurrect the dead.

Of course, Ling Ran did not ask for the doctors in the ICU to perform prolonged CPR on every single patient. However, for the past ten hours, he had ordered them to perform pretty prolonged CPR on two patients, and throughout the duration of the resuscitation, he wanted every single chest compression to be perfect. Doctor Yan had never experienced anything like this.

But the two patients ended up surviving courtesy of Ling Ran.

So, there was nothing that he could say about it.

In the field of medicine, theories and speculations were pointless. Even the most flawless theories had to give way to reality.

If a doctor had a way to save patients from the brink of death every single time, there was no point for an attending physician in the ICU to complain of fatigue. He would have no choice but to do as that doctor said.

Doctor Yan did have the intention to learn prolonged CPR from Ling Ran. But before he mastered the craft, he really did not want to work together with Ling Ran again.

After all, people needed to live their lives, did they not?

Doctors needed to live their lives too!

Ling Ran walked out of the ICU in a natural manner. He then took a shower and changed into a full set of clothes.

This was the third set of clothes he was changing into today.

He encountered a patient who kept vomiting and one who was suffering from major hemorrhage just now, and he was forced to scrub himself clean after he was done resuscitating them.

Even now, there were quite a lot of germs and stains on Ling Ran’s body.

Ling Ran was thinking about how his new underpants would not be put to good use after he went home. Considering the cost-effectiveness ratio, he took out a pair of 59 RMB underpants and put it on.

Ever since he started performing freelance surgery, the first thing he upgraded was his wardrobe. This 59 RMB pair of underpants was his cheapest underpants.

He felt light and comfortable after changing into the pair of clean 59 RMB underpants. And after putting on his large white coat, Ling Ran looked even more fresh and handsome.

He returned to his office to retrieve his car keys and other things. He was about to go downstairs when Lu Wenbin ran over with a mysterious expression on his face. Lu Wenbin looked pleased with himself as he said, “Doctor Ling, I have a patient with four severed fingers. Do you want to operate on him?”

Ling Ran hesitated for a few seconds. He lowered his head to look at his crotch that had his pair of 59 RMB underpants and furrowed his eyebrows a little.

“If you’re busy, I’ll do it together with Chief Physician Wang,” Lu Wenbin quickly added.

“I’ll do it.” Ling Ran immediately made a decision. He then added, “Go ahead to the operating theater first. I’ll join you after I shower.”
