Chapter 91: An Interesting Encounter… III ; Adele Joyce’s Story

Despite Jason’s intense stare, Adele managed to catch herself and start speaking,

“I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Gestifute, but we are a worldwide known agency for being top of the line in managing athletes, especially footballers,”

“We have world-famous players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, Diego Costa as well as many others under our management and we strive to get the best for our players out of every deal and contract they engage themselves in, be it club contracts, endorsement deals and other things,”

“Upon realizing that a young talent like you did not have a long-standing agent, we want to offer ourselves and our services to you and become a part of your success story,”

“If you sign with us, we promise to do our utmost to help you take care of the official side of things and leave you to focus on your football. You can leave all the dirty work to us,” Adele said everything she wanted to say at a stretch and finally stopped while hoping that Jason would be impressed and agree to sign with her, or at least take the time to think about it.

“… It’s a good pitch, that’s for sure… but it’s lacking a little… desperation,”

“The desperation that would make you trace me all the way to my living quarters and quite literally sleep with my roommate just to get a personal meeting with me without my consent is lacking in your presentation,” Jason said, his tone a little devious.

“If it makes you feel better, I never planned to sleep with him, and I didn’t, he was too drunk to do anything yesterday,” Adele revealed a shocking revelation that would have Mylo covering his face in embarrassment if he heard Adele’s words.

“Even if I were to believe you, that’d earn you a few more points with me at most… it doesn’t change the fact that you are revealing a desperation that is quite frankly, very surprising from someone as beautiful as you,” Jason mentioned, still with a smile on his face, but his tone having a mix of curiosity and indifference.

It was almost like he was quite curious about her situation, yet he wouldn’t give a flying fuck about it as well even if he heard what it was about.

“Nobody loves their job that much,” he added, his curiosity getting the better of him as he wanted to know what would bring a beauty like her to do something as unreasonable as what she was doing.

Adele could see Jason’s curiosity in his eyes, yet at the same time, she could hear his indifference in his tone and she immediately knew that only her full disclosure would even have a slight chance of shaking Jason’s indifference and enable him to even consider hiring her as an agent.

After a few more seconds of thought, with a sigh, she finally opened her mouth

“… It’s always been my dream to manage world-renowned athletes, but it isn’t nearly as easy to actually do it as it is to dream about it, especially as a woman,”

“Barely managing to get through law school while also learning sports management at the same time was already hard enough, and I barely managed to get hired by a top company like Gestifute, but even within the company, the competition is intense to get a top players signature,”

“A budding agent like me cannot manage to get the signature of an already established player and even if I managed to find someone willing to make me their agent, my colleagues will manage to steal their signature as I don’t have any proven records, thus the only way out for me is to sign a talented young player that can blossom into a world-known talent, but even doing that is hard,”

“Any young players that have shown such talent have already been snapped up by other agents and the only way I can find a young talent to sign would be if I signed a kid who is probably younger than ten years old,”

“If I did that, how long would I have to wait until he became a professional, even after waiting, what if he doesn’t attain the heights that we hope he reaches… that’s why I only have you as an option,”

“A young player with enough talent and potential to become world known, at least from what I can see… yet not having an agent,”

“You have no idea how much my colleagues are salivating over you,” Adele said with a wry smile.

“… That’s um… quite the sob story…”

“… It is quite interesting, but uh, your five minutes are over, so leave your card and I may contact you after some consideration,” Jason responded with a smile, but the indifference in his tone was alarming.

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re good at playing with a woman’s heart,” Adele muttered in a self-deprecative tone as she took out her card and handed it to Jason.

Jason took the card from her hand and examined the card, seeing her name, a couple of digits that were probably her phone number, and the words “Gestifute” written on the back of the card.

Weighing the card and feeling the sharp edges in his hand, Jason suddenly had an intrusive thought to do a trick he had learned in his previous reality while learning martial arts.

He suddenly flicked his wrist sharply and sent the card flying in at an empty milk carton that he had drunk earlier.

Instead of the card bouncing off the carton, it surprisingly embedded itself in the carton with so much force that it sent the empty carton flying a few centimeters back, but the embedded card that punctured the milk carton was very clearly visible, surprising Adele.

“What was that you said earlier?” Jason asked with a toothy grin that showed his pure white canine teeth in all their glory.

He hadn’t taken his eyes off Adele since she gave him her card and his eyes had been on her all while he had performed that parlor trick of embedding the card into the milk container, and this had both impressed and slightly scared Adele, and Jason was for some reason enjoying playing around with her emotions.
