GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 1969 Extraordinary Confusion.

Chapter 1969  Extraordinary Confusion.

By being in the middle of the two oceans, they have jumped out of them temporarily. But it was not by their own power, so they can't destroy any copy here. They can't even fly higher to reach the cubes above them. They are stuck in their current position and cannot move about.

Not that it would be of much use even if they could move and destroy a copy, because they will need to find the true body of the copy they destroyed and kill that too. Preferably before another copy is created. The clones stopped thinking about that and looked around to see if there was anyone not submerged in the void universe. The only ones they saw were them and the creator of the void universe itself. The creator and progenitor of every being in the void universe looked like an indescribable entity. At least, it looked indescribable to them. They were struggling to understand what it was that they were looking at. It was a dark beast floating in between the sky of frozen Origin gods and the ocean of their ignorant counterparts. It had an unknown number of limbs. It had heads too many to count and many more features too difficult to understand. The more they looked at it, the more questions they had. They couldn't understand what they were seeing, so they had to question themselves if they were seeing the right thing or if the problem lay with the progenitor. Legion-4 asked, "Is that an arm or a leg?"

Legion-7 pointed at the same thing and said, "Is that a shoulder or torso?"

Legion-2 shook his head and said, "You're both wrong. That is either a tail or a weirdly shaped head."

The clones looked at each other in confusion. Then Legion-9 asked, "Why are we seeing different things even when we are standing together and looking at the same thing?"

The more they looked, the more they became lost in the questions. But their minds always came back to the same questions. "What are those chains?"

"Is it shackled?"

"Why is it shackled?"

"How can it be shackled?"

"Who can shackle it?"

Down and down they went through the spiral of questions in a bid to understand why the creator of the void universe is chained up and bound.

At least, that's what it appears to them. The chains extend from it to all over the void universe. They sank into the ocean below and rose to the cubes above. It is the one thing every clone can see and agree with. There were shackles everywhere. Those shackles were of the color red, green, and blue. They were the same colors as the runes on the pillar. In fact, the chains appeared to all be coming from the pillar. Or it could be that the chains were coming from the progenitor towards the pillar. Either way, at least one of them was bound. They couldn't tell which one or how they were bound or why they were bound. They would have remained like that, spiraling for ages until their progenitor woke up. The dark beast opened a single eye that focused on them. It cackled and said, "The prodigal son has returned."

Its voice was mellow. It was like a gentle breeze. They couldn't tell if it was male or female. But they could tell that its source was weak.

Actually, it felt like its source was dying. They couldn't understand it. It was just unbelievable to them that something that could maintain the immortality of an uncountable amount of origin gods could be dying. But the primogenitor didn't care what they were thinking. It laughed with mirth for a while. Then it asked, "How long has it been?"

What it got in return was only silence. The clones were silent as they were thinking of how to respond. They were trying to understand the simple statements that the progenitor of the void universe had made, but it is taking too much time because it contained too much information.

What's worse is that the information it contained didn't make sense. It is clear that the void universe knows them. It knows them very well, and probably far more than they know themselves. They can admit to that, but they don't understand why the void universe was saying that they had been here before.

It was also asking them how long it had been since they left. They can't answer that question because they don't know when last they were here.

And if the void universe truly knows them and they have been here before, it should know the time and shouldn't need to ask them for it. There were just too many contradictions. Either the void universe or them or the void universe and them were confused. That prospect only made them more confused. So they asked, "Have we been here before?"

It sighed. "You don't remember, huh?"

It became silent after saying that. Legion was also silent because they were about to explode. They were about to explode because they were having cognitive dissonance. What the void universe said is true. They can tell that it isn't lying. They also know that they have been here before. It is obvious now that it has pointed it out. But they can't remember when or how. As they were confused, some cubes fell from the sky and appeared before them. They were hundreds in number. All of them looked different. Some had supreme laws, and some didn't. But Legion was familiar with all of them.

The clones asked, "Who are these people? Why do we know them? Why can't we remember how and where we know them? Why do they..."

They had so many questions, but the progenitor interrupted them. It said, "These people are all you. You have died many times. Sometimes you didn't die. You just forgot who you were. It is the same for almost everyone. It is the calamity of this prison."
