Chapter 889: Burying His Head Into the Duvet
Nian Junting thought that he had heard her wrong.
“How could you call me uncultured?” He was in disbelief. “When we listed the company, who was the one who called me a wise? Who was the one who complimented me on my sharp acumen?”
“I hadn’t seen the world back then,” Nian Xi said unceremoniously. “When you leave your country and really see the world, your horizon will broaden. I find that businessmen like you are too boring. All you talk about is money and interests.”
Nian Junting was furious and he chuckled sarcastically. “All right. You should go look for Jiang Yuning then, if he is interesting enough for you. But I’m warning you, the whole family disapproves and I will never accept him. I’m also warning you; don’t you dare sleep in the same room as him again...”
“I was working and I was sleeping on the floor. Nothing was going on between us.”
“There were other guys with you, weren’t there? Why couldn’t they protect him at night?” Nian Junting was skeptical. “I was seduced by your sister-in-law back when we were sleeping in the same room. She really captured my heart and soul back then.”
“All right. I’m going to take an afternoon nap. Goodbye.”
Nian Junting was frustrated when Nian Xi hung up on him.
He quickly said to Luosang, who was reading a book beside him, “I think I underestimated that little mute, Jiang Yuning. He completely brainwashed Nian Xi after just a day over there. She called me an uncultured businessman! Ridiculous.”
Luosang looked up from her book and pondered for a moment. “Hmm. Now that you mention it, you are a little uncultured. After all, money is a material good. Let it go, won’t you?”
“...”
Women these days. They treat money like treasure when they don’t have it, but they despise it once they’ve had enough of it.
...
Nian Xi snuck into the master bedroom quietly.
Jiang Yuning was already asleep; he was probably tired out from the day. He was in a deep slumber and she could see his chest rise and fall with each breath.
Nian Xi snuck into the duvet and fell asleep within minutes. She never had a problem taking afternoon naps and Zhan Hong was still downstairs with the rest. This gave her the peace of mind to rest properly. She slept until it was dark outside.
She turned groggily in her bed, then suddenly came into contact with a soft and warm body. She put her leg over and hugged it close to herself. She only realized that something was not quite right after a while. She opened her eyes and saw a pair of pink lips and a sculptured nose in front of her. She could also make out his long eyelashes.
His eyes were closed and he appeared to be in deep sleep. He wasn’t awakened by her movement and he drew in closer to her with a contented expression on his face.
Nian Xi was in a daze for a few seconds before she shouted abruptly and jolted up. Jiang Yuning was finally awakened by her exclamation and he sat up quickly. He rubbed his eyes groggily and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I should be asking you that! Why are you sleeping beside me?” Nian Xi didn’t want to recall how she wrapped her legs around him earlier.
Jiang Yuning looked at her with confusion before coming to his senses and whispered, “I wanted to wake you up for some steak but I couldn’t bear to do so when you looked so comfortable. I wanted to wait for you to wake up but I fell asleep while waiting. Let’s go have steak, since you’re up now.”
“No.” Nian Xi was too concerned to get angry. “If you’re not going out to events, you shouldn’t go out at all. It’s too messy out there. We can’t afford for you to get hurt. We’ll all be sacked if something happens to you.”
Jiang Yuning was anxious. He promised to take her out for steak.
“Let’s eat it in the suite then. We can all have steak tonight,” Nian Xi said.
Jiang Yuning frowned but he nodded his head as Nian Xi got up to order them dinner.
Jiang Yuning glanced at the indentation she left in the mattress. He could almost smell a waft of sweet scent, her scent. He drew in closer to where she had been lying and sniffed the linen before burying his head into the duvet.
