Chapter 927: No Wonder People Called Ji Nuanyi a Workaholic
“Do you want to go up and say hello?” Jiaojiao asked.
Yan Su shook her head. “What for? Will he be able to help me gain popularity or earn more money? Star Music has given me sufficient resources to go further.”
Jiaojiao gave her a thumbs up. “Su, you are so cool.”
Yan Su grimaced. She just didn’t want to face Shi Xiang.
After rehearsing for about 30 minutes, Shi Xiang headed out for dinner with the main emcee of the show. The other artists were all having the deluxe bento boxes prepared for them by the broadcasting company.
Yan Su was sitting at the same table as Ji Nuanyi.
“Miss Ji, why didn’t you go out and have lunch with them?” Yan Su asked.
“I want to read the script,” Ji Nuanyi retrieved a thick manuscript from her bag. “Besides, I don’t enjoy superficial small talk over meals as much as they do.”
Yan Su really admired her. It was no wonder people called Ji Nuanyi a workaholic. She really lived up to her reputation.
At 8 p.m., the grand ceremony began. It was chaos backstage.
Ji Nuanyi was fourth in the lineup. After she sang her song, she promptly left the event.
Yan Su was resting in a corner when she heard a few singers ramble on beside her.
“Why isn’t Shi Xiang here yet?” Zhao Tianlan asked.
“He’s probably here,” said another singer, Wei Man. “He might just be chatting with corporate upstairs.”
“Isn’t he just an idol that debuted in Korea? Why do they pay so much attention to him anyway?” someone enviously asked.
“I think they are more interested in his supporters,” Zhao Tianlan said with a chuckle.
Yan Su was stunned.
“I heard he managed to land his CEO’s daughter,” Zhao Tianlan softly whispered.
“Impossible!” Wei Han was shocked. “Are you only saying that because you’re still upset that Shi Xiang stole your rehearsal slot?”
“Why would I lie to you for?” Zhao Tianlan asked. “I was in Korea for training when I met a junior from his company. He was extremely upset when he was talking about him because he felt that it was unfair that the company had channeled all their resources to Shi Xiang. Anyway, many people in the company noticed that the CEO’s daughter would go look for him whenever he was back in Korea. They looked really close. Pany people in the company know about this.”
“No wonder he rose to his fame so quickly over these years,” another singer remarked. “He even has his own studio here in China.”
“Alright, stop gossiping about him since he has a powerful supporter,” Wei Han said. “We’re still too insignificant. Someone could easily sabotage our careers.”
None of them said a word after that.
Yan Su’s hands were trembling when she took another sip of her coffee. She couldn’t even taste the bitterness of the drink anymore. She believed what they had said. Luosang had mentioned that “Young Missy” before.
Her point was proven. She used to think that it might have been a misunderstanding. Now, she was just a fool who was played.
She sat there in a daze for a while before Jiaojiao came up to her when it was nearing her turn. She stood up and sang three songs.
When she got off the stage to leave, she saw Shi Xiang sitting at the dressing table. They made eye contact through the reflection in the mirror.
Yan Su took her phone from her assistant. There was a message from a familiar but foreign number: “Wait for me. We haven’t seen each other in 315 days. Wait for me in front of the bathroom.”
She put down her phone and left the station with her assistant. Late that night, she lowered the car window. The wind tousled her long, black hair.
