Chapter 6 A Ruined Moment
Chapter 6 A Ruined Moment
Caitlyn's face was flushed with ecstasy; the sight carved itself in Leon's memory.
"... Caitlyn." Leon called out in a haze.
"Yes?" Caitlyn replied playfully.
"What's my birthday?" He asked.
"Hmmm. I don't think I know that." She replied with a finger to her lips. "Why do you ask?"
"Just curious." He replied.
Suddenly her face lit up.
"Wait! It's June 12th, 2056. Right?"
An icy chill crawled down Leon's spine.
He had never told anyone his real name, let alone his birthday.
Caitlyn got the information [unsealed] from the administration department.
"I appreciate a woman with attention to detail." Leon replied nonchalantly.
"Moving on. We can't stay here forever and can only travel for a few minutes with relative safety.
Do you have a suggestion where we might go?"
"Hmmm. Well, if we move to the Lamath Building, we could make the most of the sky bridge." Caitlyn suggested. "It's a bit far to run, but I can fly there."
Leon felt a wave of anxiety move through his chest.
'Despite only coming here after 8 pm, she knows where she is. Has she watched me while I've slept?'
"You~know. If you just asked me if I'm a crazy, obsessive stalker, I'd answer you." Caitlyn giggled.
Leon snapped out of his daze and stared at her in perplexion.
"I won't be offended. Just ask, silly." She requested with a cute expression.
"Are you a crazy, obsessive stalker?" Leon asked bluntly.
"Yeeeee~ep." Caitlyn smacked.
Leon's eyes filled with shock at her casualness.
He wondered if this was an effect of 50? Max Comfortability.
"You should see your face right now." Caitlyn giggled.
His expression crumbled when she saw her mocking expression.
"It's not like I watch you while you sleep or cut out pictures of your face to add to a mosaic." She explained.
"You're just so damn interesting. I just wanted to ask you a question after class one day, so I asked for your student email.
That's when I learned you used a fake name. So, like a detective, I investigated, and your life's never-ending rabbit hole sucked me in.
Now you're like a celebrity, and I'm your fan girl. It's not that crazy when you consider it from that perspective."
Leon's eyes widened in astonishment.
Caitlyn gave two justifications for stalking that felt shockingly persuasive.
To his amazement, she genuinely convinced him.
"One finding led to another, one shared class turned into five, and then suddenly I woke up in love with serious mental health problems." Caitlyn giggled.
"I saved your life, you stole my panties, I joined your harem, and the rest is history."
Leon's hope for the situation crumbled instantly, sparking another round of giggles.
"Don't you find your weariness ironic, Leon?" She asked playfully.
"Ironic? I can think of a dozen words to describe my weariness, starting with [intelligence], and ironic isn't one of them." Leon scoffed.
"Hoh? Doesn't your power turn normal women into obsessive, stalker-grade fan girls?" Caitlyn mused.
"From what I can tell, it doesn't prevent me from deceiving you or not following your orders.
I lied about how I first found interest in you to confirm.
I've thought of other men, and it wasn't blocked either.
The only thing I found during testing was that I couldn't think of harming you, and I feel considerably more comfortable speaking openly."
Leon was stunned that she discerned so much so quickly.
"Given the profound look on whitey's face when he talked about that power, it was clear your power isn't useless." Caitlyn reasoned.
"However, I feel hardly feel any difference. Sooooo my guess is that it makes women mildly obsessive and stalkerish, and it doesn't affect me much because I'm a seasoned veteran."
Leon processed her words for ten seconds before snapping out of a trance.
Once again, Caitlyn convinced him that her obsessive stalking was benign and even ideal.
'Without a doubt, this woman is a charming serial killer grade psychopath.' Leon thought in fear.
"Isn't this conversation proof enough?" She asked with a cute smile.
"You're still alive. Obsession has at least a few perks, don't you think?"
"That… is a good point. I genuinely can't argue that it doesn't have stellar perks." Leon chuckled with conflicted eyes.
"You think so? Then why don't you start using them?" Caitlyn asked while walking over to him with swiveling hips and a swaying ponytail.
Leon's blood started pumping, and his heart beat uncontrollably.
"Something about this feels—"
"Your expression confirmed I wasn't affected much." Caitlyn said in a low, seductive voice.
"This is how I've always felt, but you never talked to me.
You had this perk an hour ago. You just didn't know it."
Her last statement was an arrow to his virgin heart, and his self-control started weakening.
Just as she reached out her hands to embrace him—
BOOOOOOM!
A massive object blasted through the wall of their room.
Caitlyn grabbed Leon at the last moment and turned around to protect them with her wings.
Luckily, the main object didn't hit the two; her wings only had to stop debris.
Leon broke free and turned to the source.
The giant was staring them down in the distance, reaching for another object to throw.
"It must have seen the light!" Leon exclaimed.
He reached down and picked up a backpack, grabbed her hand, and pulled her into the main room.
"I'm jumping on your back. We'll need to test a way for you to fly. We have ten seconds, go!"
Caitlyn's face lit up in surprise.
"Yes~sir." She replied with confused delight.
Leon's face flushed with annoyance.
BOOM!
Another object struck the building. Luckily, it was on the other side.
He tried to find a proper place to hold her, but he couldn't hold on well enough outside her wings.
Moreover, he couldn't hug her inside her wings because his chest would be on them.
"Mi~ght I make a suggestion?" Caitlyn asked in a strange tone.
"Anything would help." Leon replied bruskly.
"If you were so inclined, you could wrap your hands around my neck like you were choking me." She explained casually.
"That… doesn't sound safe at all!" He cried.
"Hmmm. Let me rephrase. I'm certain that your beautiful, mortal, highly dexterous, and shockingly capable hands can please me beyond words." Caitlyn replied pensively.
"Bu~t, as truly devastating as this is to say, I doubt they can hurt me, let alone asphyxiate me."
Leon's eyes shook in confliction. He knew she was right, but the image in his mind was far too unsavory.
BOOOOOM!
A massive object hit the wall of the main room, ten feet away from them.
"Fine! But if you scream daddy or do anything similar, I'll jump to my death." Leon cried, white grabbing her throat and jumping on her back.
"How~dangerous." Caitlyn replied.
Her entire body shivered in pleasure before her wings extended, and she burst into the sky.
The two flew 120 feet in the air in a matter of seconds. The G force behind her new powers was shocking.
Once they were in the air, the world's situation became clearer.
"Isn't this wonderful?" Caitlyn asked in a relaxing tone.
"What… are you talking about?" Leon asked in bewilderment.
"Hmmm? This is our first sunset together, and it's breathtaking."
It was sunset. However, [breathtaking] adopted its literal meaning to describe it.
The dim lighting illuminated fires raging through the city.
While the vortexes were small and closing, they had already sown the seeds of destruction for the world.
The city was crawling with creatures, and destroyed buildings lined the streets.
Leon could hear screams in the distance, but they were few and far between.
"Yeah… It's… uh… unforgettable. That's for sure." He replied awkwardly.
"Isn't it!? Sure, the world's a cooking oil-soaked dumpster fire, but it's still the start of a new chapter in our lives."
Leon's eyes glazed over, and the gatekeepers beckoned him into the beyond.
"That's… certainly logical. Let's get moving, but…."
The benefit of the sky bridge was being able to access the situation on the ground in a panoramic view. It seemed ridiculous now.
"But?" Caitlyn asked.
"We don't need to go to the sky bridge. Flying's pretty incredible." Leon commented.
Caitlyn blushed and puffed out her chest with pride.
"I'm glad you've finally noticed my talents."
Leon chuckled bitterly. If he weren't choking her, in his boxers, 120 feet in the air, while the world could see up her skirt, it would have been cute.
"It seems—watch out!" Leon yelled.
A massive silver object shot past the two as Caitlyn dodged to the left.
GOOOOOOORRRRNN!
She looked down to find the same twenty-foot giant trying to kill them.
"That fucking thing is ruining our MOMENT!" Caitlyn seethed.
"Wait, calm—aghhhhhhhhhhh!"
The two magically hit Mach-4 without warning or build-up.
Before Leon even understood what was happening, he looked up to find the object the giant threw in Caitlyn's right hand.
"Wait, what are you holding—aghhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Leon's stomach dropped dramatically as the feeling of a super rollercoaster from hell took over.
He feared he'd hurt Caitlyn since he was choking her at 5% superhuman strength to keep himself from flying off.
However, it didn't matter if she was hurt if he was dead!
Leon tightened his grip and used his upper body strength to pull his head forward.
That was when he realized what was happening.
The two were nose-diving at an 81.76-degree angle toward the earth.
Or, more specifically, toward the twenty-foot humanoid giant trying to kill them.
The obsidian scales on its chalky-white back stood up like goosebumps when it felt them approaching.
The overbearing aura of sheer human terror coming from above made it salivate.
However, the giant realized something harrowing the second Leon pulled himself up.
Only [one] person was responsible for the suffocating aura of human fear.
The second that Leon's fear dropped 5%, the giant could finally feel the killing intent approaching it. No. Killing intent would be comically flattering.
The pure genocidal bloodlust approaching it at Mach-4 doubtlessly strangled Cerberus to death while escaping the third circle of hell.
Coming face to face with its mortality for the first time, the giant quickly reached to the ground to find an object to shield itself.
It instantly uprooted a thin, ten-foot maple tree by the side of the road.
Unfortunately, the object Caitlyn was returning to the giant was a Edison Electrotruck that had finally hit the market last month.
GOOOOR—
Before the giant could even lift the tree, the Electrotruck hit its skull at 20 G's, causing it to explode and bloom like a crimson rose.
The only emotion Leon could feel when he saw the supernova of blood and brain matter making its way to the earth was [pity].
He felt bad for the person who pre-ordered and waited fifty-seven years for a vehicle, only for the apocalypse to hit the following month.
"At least it inadvertently saved their life." Leon muttered with a cringing expression.
"Miley!" A man screamed.
Leon turned to the road, only to find a man holding a shotgun running at full speed.
"Did he name his truck Miley?" He muttered in bewilderment as the man rushed to the truck.
The vehicle had crashed into a tree.
Shockingly enough, it had righted itself in the driving position. Even more perplexing, the windows were unbroken as advertised!
Hope was in the man's eyes as he ran to his beloved Electrotruck.
The only thing he could think about was the hope it was still drivable.
If he were thinking about anything else, he'd notice that the giant's limp arm was resting on said tree.
Since he didn't, as soon as he got within ten feet, the giant's arm fell on top of him in a grotesque demonstration of gravitational theory.
"Ouch." Leon grimaced.
In a final cruel act, the Electrotruck recognized its owner and opened its door.
"That… was surprisingly… beautiful. In a tragic sense, you know?" Caitlyn commented.
"I… Yes, it was. Can we leave? If it turns out this guy had a wife, and she runs out for commentary, it may scar me for life." Leon replied dryly.
