Chapter 61 Landslides!
Chapter 61 Landslides!
Caitlyn, Lindy, Tricksie, and Leon kept pace with the survivor trucks, waiting for future developments.
Luckily, the men were far more cautious about approaching after Kira's surreal usage of Reversal.
Leon didn't know it was the blonde, but he expected it was and that she had the power to steal or duplicate powers.
Either way, he was appreciative but conflicted about whether to reprimand her.
"No. I can't reprimand her." Leon thought aloud.
"Her usage was highly impressive, and she adapted to it rapidly. It was remarkable.
Moreover, we'd have faced a disaster without going all out if she hadn't acted.
So I can't reprimand her for potentially saving everyone.
Maybe I should promote her into a higher placement so that she uses the power—"
Just as he thought using a borrowed power was a godsend, he got the opposite feedback.
RUMBLE, RUMBLE, Rumble, rumble, rumble….
"What the fuck is going on!?" Leon roared, "No one disclosed earthquake magic!"
All the trucks started rocking back and forth, and many lost control momentarily from an earthquake.
Leon narrowed his eyes at the blonde. Kira was sitting in the back of the truck, waving her hands at him and Caitlyn with a [it wasn't me] sign.
She started to move her head to the right but froze.
Leon looked over at Minx—
CRRRRRAAAAAAAACCCCCCK!
"AaGgHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhH!"
His slow-motion concentration caught up with the sounds, and Tricksie moved her body to face the direction of the earthquake.
A massive chasm was splitting the earth in half!
That was a positive development in general. Not only did it kill large swaths of males, but only people that could jump the increasingly large chasm could also chase after them.
However! And a huge fucking however at that!
RUMBLE, RUMBLE, Rumble, rumble, rumble….
"AaGgHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhH!"
BOOM! Boom! CRASH! Boom. BOOOM! Crash! Boom! BOOM!
The massive walls of city debris fell downward in a chain reaction.
While the initial landslide gracefully killed hundreds of men and blocked off most of the road for them, it was waving and causing a tidal wave of destruction [everywhere].
The bus Quinn and Phan were driving was drifting down the road, speeding up and slowing down at erratic intervals.
"Fuuuuuckkkk thiiiiisssss!" Phan groaned.
Boom, boom, BOOM!
A massive support pillar crashed onto the road in front of their bus.
"Collision warning! Making a drastic turn!"
EERRRRrrrrrr!
"AaGgHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhH!"
The tires squealed as it narrowly avoided the crash but sent the candidates inside the back flying into the windows.
THUD! Thud, thud, thud! THUD! Thud, thud! THUD!
"This is crazy!" Quinn cried.
Iron beams, shards of glass, light poles; everything one could imagine in a city was crashing down around their vehicles.
BOOM! Boom, rubble, rubble, rubble… BOOM!
"Collision Warning! Making a drastic turn!"
EERRRRrrrrrr!
"AaGgHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhHhH!"
THUD! Thud, thud, thud! THUD! Thud, thud! THUD!
The group of women in the back of the bus crashed into the opposite side of the walls.
They wished they were packed into a moving truck, so they didn't keep crashing into each other during every drift period.
No one was complaining, though. The women could see the landslide of destruction outside and were grateful they weren't getting hit.
Everyone was right to feel grateful, as the survivors weren't having the same luck.
The caravan of trucks was moving in a checkered line. So when they needed to avoid collisions, they often crashed into one another.
Two of the trucks got crushed instantly in the landslide after crashing.
Another two spun out of control, grinding to a halt but survived.
One truck was moving but had a huge gash, and blood was pouring out of it.
Two had popped tires and were grinding on their rims, at risk of tipping over.
Only half of the trucks were doing okay with only a few scratches. They were all on the east side, away from the landslide, but it was still precarious to drive.
"Fuck me." Leon groaned, "Caitlyn! Use Light Pillar as a moving ray to destroy debris. We need to free up the retrieval team members so we can save the drivers on the west!"
The blonde registered his ask immediately.
A massive pillar of light shot down from the heavens, incinerating the falling debris in a wall of heavenly destruction.
The teams could finally take action now that the two retrieval team trucks in the back and middle didn't have to worry about swerving to avoid debris [and] the other trucks.
"Wind Dance!" A woman yelled.
Massive gusts of wind picked up debris from the road and gracefully threw it back into the western wall, freeing up the road for the driver.
"Let's fuckin' go!" Kazz roared. The woman turned into a massive tiger around ten feet high and started unburying vehicles.
Her power allowed her to shapeshift into any feline in the universe. Since she came from a feline-dominated planet, she had an arsenal.
Whoooooosh! Boom!
Kazz picked up a massive pillar and threw it over the wreckage to uncover a buried truck.
Unfortunately, the driver was dead, so she tore away the top to see if there were survivors.
Luckily, half were still alive, so she ripped the truck in half to free them. When she did, a mound of dead bodies and two feet of blood poured out simultaneously.
Half of the surviving women had broken bones, and the other half were terrified of the massive tiger staring at them.
"If you're alive, then run!" Kazz growled.
"You're on your own until we've secured the candidates.
Then the heavy hitters will help the stragglers.
There are only two miles left, so you should be fine if you can run one and a half!"
The women complied and ran out.
Mirth casually reached on the side of a flipped truck and rolled it over.
The sight caused Leon's eyes to widen in shock.
Not only did the canine woman have insane abs, but she also had super strength. He had a feeling that strength wasn't her power either.
Once flipped over, Mirth tore off the door to the driver's seat.
"Guuuuuuuuuh!" The driver moaned.
RUMBLE, RUMBLE, Rumble, Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble…..
"Clever woman." Mirth grinned.
The driver had chosen a rapid healing power, so her wounds were healing. She couldn't stand because her body was viciously pushing shrapnel from her body.
The issue with rapid healing was that everything in the apocalyptic wasteland could kill a person instantly.
However, she would survive with comrades, and that was an invaluable skill in the long run. The fact she was still alive was proof that she was capable enough to survive until then.
RUMBLE, RUMBLE, Rumble, Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble…..
Mirth picked her up and threw her into the back of the pickup truck.
She figured she could help as many people as possible and trek the rest. After all, there were only two miles, and she could run that distance in three minutes at full speed.
However, she wouldn't have made that decision if she had understood the full situation.
The original landslide didn't cause the rumbling she heard. Instead, it was—
"I hated her, and now I'm partially grateful. No, not at all! At least there would be a chance!" Leon yelled.
Despite causing the death of countless women, there were two benefits to the chasm that Minx ripped through the earth.
First, she averted the impending crisis of the men catching up.
While hundreds were still alive using their powers to jump the chasm, they would have wiped out even more trucks if Caitlyn and Lindy didn't play their trump cards.
Moreover, their attacks wouldn't have killed nearly as many men. So the death toll for the survivors was a miracle statistic.
The second thing her attack inadvertently did was uncover what was hidden underneath the city walls.
Leon was right. There was a major trial to get to the Sanctuary, and they weren't prepared for it.
RUMBLE, RUMBLE, Rumble, Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble…..
BOOM! Boom, rubble, rubble, rubble… CRASH!
EERRRRrrrrrr!
"Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
The buses in front were a quarter mile away when the walls began caving in. As before, the buses quickly averted falling debris and wove in and out of traffic.
Luckily, after watching the fate of the moving trucks, the buses created a line in preparation for an impending event.
It proved fortunate, as only one bus crashed into another when the landslide began.
Unfortunately, the rubble completely blocked the group from driving—for a quarter mile.
However, no one in the buses or retrieval trucks was thinking about that. Instead, they were staring at what was hidden underneath.
"W-Wh-What the f-fuck is that!?" Kira cried.
"What do you mean, [what is that]?" Minx snapped, "That's a massive fucking eyeball!"
