Chapter 361: Double O

Magnus and the family sat around the table having morning breakfast, in the distance the television was on, showing the news. They all listened to it while eating.

[NEWS]

Breaking News, a scandal that has shocked the nation, has come to light. This morning, the police and many media houses received a colossal dossier, it had evidence of massive corruption in our government, and the names go from bottom to the top.

The Police, under the command of Commissioner-General of Police, Tom Redfield, has arrested a total of 2,000 politicians and bureaucrats. Many more are being demoted or fired from their jobs and are getting internal inquiries being set against them. In total, 15,000 people have been named in the documents and each has concrete evidence against them.

We tried to get a response from the Prime Minister but we have not been able to get to him. The moment we get any reac… We just received an update. I’m afraid this one is tragic, the Prime Minister and the four other members of the cabinet have been found dead in 10 Downing Street. All five seemed to have taken poison together. The Police will surely investigate if it has any relation to the dossier…

[NEWS ENDS]

Grace and Adam looked at Magnus’ face. Magnus and Ragnar continued to eat as if nothing had happened. Magnus, of course, knew everything as he was the reason, while Ragnar just didn’t give a shit and was rather interested in his chicken sandwich.

“Magnus, do you know about this?” Adam asked him.

Magnus nodded, “Dad, some things aren’t meant to be talked around. It’s better if they stay a secret, that’s the best thing for national security. The dossier, however, was indeed spread by me. I had hired Ted to do an audit on the entire government, this is the result.”

“So it’s a purge of corruption, it’s a good thing for the nation then,” Grace murmured and continued to feed the babies.

“What is purge?”

“What is corruption?” Maximus and Aurelia asked. The blond twins were forever curious about anything and everything.

Ragnar replied, “Hah, Purge is when you destroy something, especially evil, and corruption is something bad people do, it’s like stealing.”

“WAAH… Does Big Brother Mag punish bad people? SO COOL!” The two were radiating stars from their eyes. And this only made Magnus feel proud. He scoffed at Ragnar, “Hehe, yes, big brother Magnus is cool.”

Ragnar snorted, “Huh, I taught them potions theory yesterday, they said the same to me then. It’s their tactic to butter you up in order to maximise their returns later.”

Magnus jolted back and looked at his siblings, ~These two… I fear for people now.~

“*Cough* Anyway, my beautiful family, George, Abe and Dobby included, pack your stuff, we’re moving to the new house by evening.” He announced. But at the same time, he realised, ~I’m gonna need more house-elves it seems, that new house is HUGE.~

The British Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6.

Inside MI6’s headquarters, the director of the agency sat in his office with a frown. On his table was also a glass with a tablet dissolving in it, meant for the headache.

*Knock Knock*

“Come in,” he called in.

Soon, a man in a nice suit entered and took a seat, “Mallory, is it about the news this morning?”

“That’s right, Bond. I need you on this, the Prime Minister and his 4 cabinet members have been assassinated. We need to know who did it and why they did it.” Mallory ordered him. [A/N: Assume all the characters look the same as in the recent movies. Including Bond.]

James Bond, however, asked, “I thought it was a mass suicide due to this leaked dossier?”

“No, Bond, it was murder. And whoever did it, knowingly made sure that they leave clues that only advanced agencies like ours can detect. The police think it’s a suicide and that’s what the world will officially know. Your lead is this man, Adrian Durand, the CEO of MEDA, I know we are not to mess with those guys since they’ve helped us a lot in recent times, so you need to pay him a casual visit. He was the last person who met the Prime Minister.” Director Mallory briefed him.

James Bond stood up, “I’ll get to it then. Adrian and I are already acquainted, it won’t be a problem to have a chat.”

*RING RING*

Mallory picked up the phone and only listened, didn’t speak all the way until he hung up. A frown took over his face again, “Leave it, no need to investigate, Bond.”

James Bong’s brows rose, this was unusual, who could even stop the MI6 from investigating when the Prime Minister was dead? “What happened?”

“It was Commissioner-General Tom Redfield. He told us not to investigate, he got everything under control. Instead, Kingsman will be taking over the investigation.” Mallory said, though he was internally happy, this meant fewer headaches.

“What do you mean they will take over? Kingsman is a private agency, they can not do governmental investigations, not of this level.” Bond argued.

Mallory sighed, “Bond, sit down and breathe. Don’t be hasty. You know for whom the Kingsman works for, you know for whom Adrian works for, and you know whose blessing is on the Commissioner General’s head. This case is not as simple as it looks.”

Bond scoffed, “The last time I checked, this country was not an absolute monarchy.”

“Care to tell me due to whom are we able to operate around the world with such ease now? Due to whom are we able to operate in Africa like it’s our backyard? Due to whom is our economy growing faster than ever? Due to whom are we safer now than ever? Bond, you are smart, you know going against him is not right.” Mallory tried to teach some sense to their best agent.

Bond grunted, “I know… His Majesty, the Pendragon, has done a lot for the nation. But killing the Prime Minister?”

“He’s the big boss, Bond, whether you like it or not. The things he does are a lot more complex than we can think. Crimes committed by wizards have been at a record low since the Battle of Hogsmeade, and the man deserves some respect. And thank you for using the right term, yes, he may not be named king right now but he already is. Now forget this assignment, focus on catching the Soviets who are smuggling weapons.” Director Mallory dismissed him.

“I want in on it, the investigation. Make a request, make it a joint investigation with Kingsman, we’ve done it before. I want to know if my loyalties lie with the right man.” James Bond requested.

Director Mallory sighed and nodded, “Tom has already told me he’ll pass on the real investigation report later, but if this is what will quench your paranoid brain, then so be it. Go ahead and meet Adrian now.”

Magnus’ Mansion,

“What did the Prime Minister even do?” Ragnar asked him while packing bags.

“Well, in the report, it was found out that about 15 years ago, in MP elections, he and his friends took money from our good old friends, the Soviets, for spending on the campaign and rigging a few polling stations. In return, they were to help the Soviets get a few people British Citizenship, something they complied with.

“Well, the people who got citizenship were KGB deep-cover spies, and they were working in Military, Navy or government’s science divisions, sending our secrets back home. Of course, they were also killed last night, but their bodies will never be found.” Magnus revealed to Ragnar.

*Whistle* “Damn, the guy became the Prime Minister, but at what cost. Whom are you going to make the new Prime Minister now?” Ragnar inquired.

“I have a guy in mind, he’s a probation member of the Order of Merlin. Remember that little girl, Ava, who was kidnapped by Oscar and I saved her along with other kids? Yes, her Prosecutor father entered politics and with my help became a cabinet member, he’s the Junior Secretary of State for Justice. Well, now that the main secretary is dead, we need someone to step up.” Magnus had everything already planned.

Later that evening,

“WOAH! Big big new home!” Maximus excitedly exclaimed at the sight of the gothic villa.

“Hehe, you can play hide and seek with your sisters all day here,” Magnus said.

They entered the living room first, it was huge, to say the least. There were comfortable couches put in front of the fireplace. It looked absolutely beautiful with all the art around the walls.

“This feels like I’m in some old castle,” Grace commented.

“This is… old. Just not a castle. Oh, I will show you your bedrooms. Follow me.” He led them to one of the 20 bedrooms. They too were grand, with enough area to sit around. Each had multiple windows to allow natural lighting in. In a true sense, they will be living like royals now.

“I will miss a few things. Like the entertainment section, the bowling alley and stuff. Also the pool, we have none here.” Ragnar complained.

“Don’t worry, it’s still a work in progress. Emrys Construction will be building everything in a few days. We’ve got such a huge backyard as well, so I’m thinking of turning it into a park with a paved stone path, with flowers on both sides.” Magnus told them of his plans.

Ragnar nodded and jumped onto the bed, “NICE… I wanna live like the rich fat kings of old times.”

They chuckled and continued their tour. Grace was the happiest right now though, as going to the hospital will now take her much less time. It will be ever lesser after Magnus makes a secret underground passage to the hospital from their home that he had planned.
