Chapter 207: Redecorating
It took Nick quite a few tries but he eventually managed to cast the spell well enough to split a wand housing without destroying it. 'Anyone who claimed that having more power made it easier to learn simple spells lied through their fucking teeth.' Nick cursed mentally after failing to get the desired outcome for the umpteenth time in the last four days. The truth of the matter as far as he could tell was that it wasn't more power that made it easier but experience in spell casting that he simply lacked.-
If anything him being so powerful turned out to be detrimental in this case as he had to actively hold back from the urge to cast a spell at full tilt like he was used to. Some spells excelled in such situations but others that required pinpoint precision simply failed in those cases. 'Still this is good training for magical control that may become useful at some point later.' he thought finally splitting a housing correctly. He went to eat dinner at Crumonte's as he had been accustomed to before going to bed since he planned to go shopping for furnishings for the Ravenclaw manor the next day.-
Waking up at dawn as he was used to Nick got dressed for the day before having Dotty follow him out of the wand shop after he said good morning to Olivander. House elves super convenient for furniture shopping as all it took for Nick to have the stuff he bought sent to the island was a quick snap of the fingers on Dotty's part. By the end of the day he had bought enough , mattresses , rugs , toilets and other miscellaneous decorative or must have items to fully redecorate the entire Ravenclaw manor.-
They were all stored in the green house at the moment but he planned on making a trip to the island himself the next day to arrange everything. Early the next morning Nick went to the island with only Helena this time which allowed him to cast magic without worry. He used this opportunity to cut back the plant life like he had previously wanted to. He left the trees that were fully grown alone when he did this but the rest was cleared back considerably from the manor. Nick also used magic to take off the vines and dirt that had covered the manor over the last thousand years restoring it's regal look.-
After that he simply went through the whole building and thoroughly decorated it so that it no longer resembled a cold empty place but a warm welcoming one. The toilets were also of a special magical variety that banished the waste after they were flushed. Nick as a fairly modern individual simply refused to use primitive implements like a chamber pot to do his business. The only part of the building that didn't get much changes was the bathing room as it was basically perfect as is.-
All the old furniture from over a thousand years ago was stored in one of the empty rooms in case Nick ever wished to use them or sell them as the antiques they are. "It's strange seeing the place so vibrant and cozy." Helena admitted when he was done. Nick shook his head "Just because this place never felt like a home doesn't mean it never should , all ice melts eventually after all." he said with a grin. "So it does." she agreed seeing the changes he made. "Now I just need to graduate from Hogwarts so that I can set up a permanent workshop here." Nick said with a sigh.-
"Unless you can somehow get to graduate a few years early you still have six years I'm afraid." Helena said with a giggle. "Ugh , I know , but it's so bloody boring to sit in class for so long with topics I've already learned." he complained dramatically. She chuckled "You'll survive." she said with a roll of her eyes. With his work at the island done with Nick went back to the shop to continue practicing his splitting. He had gotten fairly competent with the spell thanks to his diligence in training to control his power.-
An interesting thing to note was that the reason Olivander hadn't said anything about him casting magic despite the trace to detect it was because he had informed the ministry already that Nick would be doing so. Nick only learned this because he brought it up when the old man asked him to practice. Apparently the whole trace rule for minors actually had stipulations in place in regards to either non threats to the statute like purebloods or those in an apprenticeship such as Nick. It wasn't super useful information to have but Nick still liked knowing it.
