“Angel, be gentle.”

Floretta pouted her lips and looked aggrieved.

“What happened? Are you injured?”

Angeline observed her carefully and frowned. Before either said anything, Angeline pulled up Floretta’s sleeve.

True enough, she saw a few scratch marks on Floretta’s arm. Judging from the damp blood stains, it was a recent wound.

“What’s going on? Did you have a fight with your classmates?”

More and more people were gathering at the kindergarten. Angeline was worried that someone might recognize her, so she took Floretta, and the both of them got into the minivan.

She told the driver to drive to a fast-food restaurant. She grabbed the medical kit from the trunk on the way there. As an actress, she was used to getting injured while filming action movies. That was why she was always prepared.

Angeline took a deep breath to stop her tears from falling as she embraced Floretta.

She leaned her chin on the child’s head and said solemnly, “Floretta, believe me. Surely, your mommy must be in some difficulties. Just wait for her patiently. One day, she will come for you.”

Before coming to fetch Floretta, Angeline had already informed Francesca about her breakup with Evander and told her not to tell him about their meeting.

Therefore, Francesca was sensible enough to pick Floretta up during the time when Evander would be on his way home. Unfortunately, Angeline could not bear to upset Floretta, so she did not tell the girl about their breakup.

When Evander arrived home, he immediately saw Floretta sitting on the carpet in the living room. She was playing with the building blocks that Angeline had bought for her earlier on.

Evander glanced at the toys before he asked, “Floretta, who bought these for you?”

“Angel.”

Floretta then pointed to her half-completed castle and seemed troubled.

“But, this window is missing a piece. I have been finding for the missing piece for so long, but I still can’t find it.”

Evander eyed the bunch of building blocks and furrowed his brows.

“When you saw her just now, what did she tell you?”

“Angel brought me to KFC, and she told me she would come to the parent-teacher conference for me.”

Since Floretta was not aware of the truth, she was smiling blissfully and tugging onto Evander’s sleeve at that moment.

“Daddy, you haven’t invited Angel to our house for quite some time. Will you be coming for the parent- teacher conference too?”

Evander’s face darkened when he heard that. He sounded particularly tense when he replied, “It depends.”

Now that Angeline had decided to attend the parent-teacher conference, and Floretta was also very thrilled about it, it would not be possible for him to put a stop to it.
