Floretta chuckled on the side before she jumped in delight while clapping her hands. She cheered, “Mr. Roger is foolish. Ms. Nancy, let me help you!”

Roger responded, “Come on, Floretta, I can’t believe I spoiled you in vain. Ouch!”

In no time, Floretta joined the duo. The three of them fooled around under the building and had a good time.

Nancy brought Floretta to sit on the bench when they got tired from playing. As for Roger, he reached for his reddened ear and kept moaning with pain.

“I do.” Evander’s moist and warm kiss landed on Angeline’s earlobe. His magnetic voice made Angeline tremble uncontrollably. “But from the moment you attended the parent-teacher conference for Floretta and even performed with her to prevent her from being discriminated against, I reckon you’re the most suited person to be her mother.”

Angeline was at a loss for words when she heard that. So, he saw everything at the parent-teacher conference that day. He isn’t neglecting Floretta, after all. I can’t relate such an attentive, thoughtful, and understanding man to the crazy pervert from five years ago. Hmm… Is there some sort of misunderstanding in that matter?

Angeline’s expression became serious. After taking a deep breath, she decided to get to the bottom of the things that happened back then. “Evander, I have always wanted to ask you a question regarding our breakup.”

Even though she found it difficult to talk about that matter, she no longer wanted to be in the dark about it.

Evander replied, “Go on.”

Just as she was thinking about how she should start the topic, her phone in her pocket rang.

The silence was abruptly interrupted.

Angeline quickly took her phone out and glanced at the caller ID. Her eyes darkened.

“Sorry, I’m going to take this call,” she uttered grimly. Taking her bag, she hurriedly went to the restroom.

The sudden interruption caused Evander to have a gloomy expression, and confusion welled within him. Who exactly is calling her that she feels the need to hide it from me?

After entering the restroom, Angeline scanned the surroundings to ensure no one was around before answering the call. “Hello, Jonathan?”

Jonathan asserted sternly, “I’m at Villa No. 301, Felicity Gardens. I found the middle-aged human trafficker from the orphanage back then. If you want to find out the exact reason, come here now.” He hung up the phone as soon as he finished delivering the information to her.

“Hello?” There was no time for Angeline to clear her doubts. Just like that, her heart sank once again. Her arm shook a little as she tightened her grip on the phone.

She then kept her phone and was about to turn to head out. Suddenly, a towering figure appeared and blocked her path. “Angeline, where are you going?”

She raised her head to look at Evander, her eyes filled with anxiousness. “Evander, I have something to attend to now. Let me go, and I’ll explain to you when I return, okay?” she hastily claimed.

“No!” The look on Evander’s handsome face grew solemn, and he refused to step aside. “I need to make sure that you stay safe. Where are you going? I’ll send you there.” There was no room for negotiations in his tone.

If I agree with him, he’ll figure out the collaboration between Jonathan and me. As time passed, Angeline was so panicked that her forehead was covered in sweat. Giving up on clarifying things, she reached out to push Evander away. “That won’t be necessary. I must go now.”

“Who were you talking to on the phone just now? Why can’t you tell me?”

Angeline felt a pang of heartache when she noticed the disappointment in Evander’s tone. She knew it was unfair to him that she had left without saying goodbye several times, but that was the only thing she could do.

Angeline lowered her gaze and murmured, “I’m sorry.”

With that said, she turned around to leave the Jetroinian restaurant without casting a glance back at Evander.

As Angeline disappeared from Evander’s sight, an overwhelming wave of disappointment rose within him. His thin lips curved upward as he flashed a self-deprecating smile.

Since he was afraid Angeline would be upset at losing a loved one, he wanted to prepare a surprise for her. Thus, he had called Roger in advance and asked the latter to contact the authorities privately to talk about the firework display. I’ve never been so attentive to a woman before. Initially, I thought Angeline would appreciate it, but in the end… I find myself rather laughable!
