Chapter 292

That voice was so painfully familiar.

Like a dagger, it pierced right through Thaddeus‘ chest!

Roused from her reverie, Evadne felt a tight squeeze in her heart, as if she’d been caught in the act of some mischief. With all her strength, she wriggled free from Thaddeus‘ oppressive hold, spinning around to give him a forceful shove.

Thaddeus‘ heart sank and he staggered back.

All that was left in his arms was the icy chill of the air, a desolate emptiness.

“Mr. Avery, what are you doing here?” Evadne tried to settle her erratic breathing but couldn’t hide the panic in her eyes,

Beneath his grey suit, Avery’s body was trembling ever so slightly, a hatred so intense hidden beneath the surface.

He adjusted his gold–rimmed glasses, his gaze upon Thaddeus filled with unbridled fury.

It was fleeting, but Thaddeus noticed. His starry eyes narrowed, a bloodthirsty dominance kindling within them. novelbin

When it came to intimidation, Thaddeus had never been bested.

Especially not in front of the woman he loved.

Evadne noticed Thaddeus‘ hardened gaze and she felt as if he was about to rip Avery apart!

She thought, “Logically speaking, he was the one who had acted inappropriately first. What had Avery done wrong, besides interrupting his ‘fun‘? Such a shameless man!”

“Evadne! Are you okay?”

Avery quickly moved closer to Evadne, his concerned gaze softening as he lowered his voice, “Are you okay? Do you need help?”

“No, I’m fine.” Evadne, her forehead slick with sweat, managed a smile at him.

Thaddeus was so consumed by jealousy that his eyes were practically aflame.

It had been a long time since she had smiled at him like that.

Now, she was giving that smile so easily to Avery.

“You don’t look fine.”

Avery didn’t reach out to hold Evadne, but standing by her side, he radiated an air of absolute protectiveness and possessiveness. Then, he casually glanced at Thaddeus, “Do you want me to kick him out?”

It was such a natural tone, as i he was staking his claim!

Thaddeus‘ eyes were bloodshot, his fists clenched.

If Evadne wasn’t there, he would have thrown Avery a punch by now.

“No need, he can leave on his own.” Evadne responded coolly, no longer looking at Thaddeus.

“Then, Evadne, will you come with me?”

Evadne looked surprised.

Thaddeus could no longer contain his anger, gritting his teeth, his voice icy, “Avery, do you even know what you’re saying?”

“I do, but it seems some people don’t know what they’re doing.”

Avery moved to stand in front of Evadne, smirking, “Can’t you see that Evadne despises you? You’re not her husband anymore. If you act like this, I could call the cops on you, Mr. Thaddeus.”

“That’s enough.”

Not wanting to cause more trouble, Evadne simply lowered her lashes, speaking indifferently to Thaddeus, “You should go Go now.”

“Evadne!”

“I told you to go!”

Finally, Evadne lost her temper, “I really don’t want to see you, Thaddeus, I really don’t.”

Thaddeus felt as if he’d been struck by lightning, his handsome face paling.

His jaw clenched, a rage surging up to his chest, nearly choking him.

The corner of Avery’s lips quirked up in a stealthy smirk.

He was never one to be easily satisfied. There were few things in the world that could satiate him.

Hitting back at Thaddeus, making him angry, causing him pain, that was one of them.

“Mr. Avery, what are you doing here?” Evadne finally asked, curious.

“I’ve moved here, just behind your villa. It’s not too far away in another villa.” Avery’s gaze was deep and tender as he looked at her.

“What?” Evadne looked shocked.

Thaddeus was also shocked and felt a strong sense of impending crisis!

“I said, we’re neighbors now, Evadne.”

Saying this, Avery tilted his head slightly and smiled at her, extending a clean hand, “Hello, new neighbor. I’m looking forward to meeting you in the neighbourhood.

Evadne was a bit confused, but she shook his hand politely.

Just like that, without any hesitation, she cut Thaddeus, her ex–husband, the man who should’ve been the closest to her, out of the picture.

“Evadne, would you like to come over to my new place?”

Like Evadne, Avery was an opportunist. So, he invited her over, “I’ve bought a lot of fresh ingredients, salmon, lobster, all your favorites. I’ll cook for you.” Every word was filled with love.

He was the considerate, polite perfect boyfriend in every woman’s dreams!

“Maybe another time, we live in the same community, we’ll have plenty of opportunities. Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Avery.” Evadne’s mind was a mess. She didn’t think now was the time for a housewarming visit.

“My mother’s here tonight as well.”

Avery looked at her earnestly, his gaze gentle and sincere as he extended the invitation again, “I told her yesterday that I would invite you over tonight. She was very happy. She hasn’t seen you in many years.”

Evadne was taken aback, “Mrs. Chambers came back from Helgen?”

“Yes, I brought her back.” Avery smiled, clearly pleased.

“That’s wonderful.”

Thaddeus was almost dying of anxiety!

Unfortunately, he couldn’t join in their conversation. He could only watch!

Thaddeus, a seasoned player in the business world, was never this helpless. But because of this woman, he felt like a complete fool, even worse, a joke.

“Evadne, you know my mother’s condition. She seldom has her lucid moments.”

A veil of melancholy clouded Avery’s eyes, stirring a pang of sympathy in anyone who looked his way. “I would appreciate it if you could see her when she’s lucid. It would make more sense that way. It’s a favor to ask, would you agree?”

Considering his words and the long–standing bond between their families, Evadne found no reason to decline. She didn’t have any appointments for the evening. either.

“Well, I’ll be glad to oblige, Mr. Avery.”

Thaddeus was seething, his fists clenched tight in frustration.

“No trouble at all. I should thank you for accepting my request, Evadne.”

Avery’s eyes twinkled with delight as he courteously gestured for Evadne to proceed. They left the room, one after the other, right in front of Thaddeus.

But Thaddeus was far from giving up. He was not a coward. He didn’t want to lose to Avery, and he certainly didn’t want to see the woman he loved walking away with another man!

What to do?

What to do?

“Evadne!”

His heart pounded against his chest as he rushed towards her.

However, before he could reach Evadne, Avery seemed to sense his approach. Avery quickly turned around and with a fierce Idok in his eyes, he swung a punch at Thaddeus!
