Chapter 711

Avery’s throat was choked with bitterness, his voice hoarse to the point of near silence, his tone

heavier than ever before.

“You know how much I’ve struggled for this day, to bring Matthew to justice. How much I’ve prepared?

Even if you wanted to avenge your brother, couldn’t you wait until after tonight? Why did you have to

reveal all this at the banquet?!”

Evadne’s deep gaze didn’t waver, coldly watching him accuse her.

“My mother suffered a grave injustice. I’ve lain low for fifteen years just to clear her name, to make

Matthew kneel and beg for her forgiveness!”

Avery’s lips turned pale and quivered, “Evadne, I was about to achieve that; why couldn’t you give me

this chance? Why?!”

“Mr. Chambers, your mother’s plight is indeed heartbreaking, but I will not halt my quest for vengeance

on your behalf.”

Evadne’s gaze was icily detached, “Perhaps, for your own selfish ends, you’d prefer to slaughter the

beast later, to safeguard your interests and those of the Chambers Group to the fullest. But I can’t wait

another moment; I want him to not see the dawn. Besides, wasn’t using us as the blade to dispose of

Matthew exactly what you wanted to see? People can’t ask more than they deserve, Mr. Chambers.”

Avery’s pupils dilated in shock, “Evadne, what do you mean by that? I really don’t understand!”

“Chew on the meaning yourself.”

Evadne had had enough of his pretense, finding every additional word to him a disrespect to herself,

and so she swiftly turned and climbed into the car.

“Evadne.” Avery’s throat felt pierced by a sharp thorn, the pain stabbing straight to his heart.

“Thaddeus, I’m starving. Let’s get something to eat,” Evadne leaned forward in the car, her eyes

playfully fixed on the man’s strong back.

Her coquettish whine was like twisting the knife deeper into Avery’s heart.

“Sure.”

Thaddeus responded gently, but before he got into the car, his steely gaze locked onto Avery again, his

thin lips curving slightly, “I know you’re not just upset for your mother. You’re just not content; that’s all.”

Watching the luxury car speed away, dust trailing behind, Avery felt a cold rage boiling within him as his

eyes reddened with fury!

Thaddeus had provoked him, stripped away his facade of pretense. Not content, he truly wasn’t

content.

The stage he meticulously set wasn’t for his own play. Just like in Evadne’s world, he was forever an

onlooker shrouded in darkness, never able to stand shoulder to shoulder with her.

“Mr. Chambers!”

Harvey ran over, sweating profusely, “Tonight’s incident has blown up on social media, and it’s not

subsiding. The evening news has even broadcasted Matthew’s arrest! I’ve got the PR department

trying to squash it, but it’s not working! The stock price is going to tank when the market opens

tomorrow!”

Avery clenched his jaw, his fists trembling with fury, “How could their investigation be so precise?!

Matthew’s indeed a rotten mess with countless loopholes. But how could they know about Matthew

using the Chambers Fund to traffic girls to high–profile figures, these backroom deals? It’s exactly what

we found out!”

“Yeah, I’m puzzled too!”

Harvey looked utterly bewildered, “Ms. Ashbourne and Mr. Abernathy acted against Matthew because

President Ashbourne and that scion of the Bright family’s scandal came to light. If Ms. Ashbourne and

Mr. Abernathy had known about Matthew’s crimes earlier, they would’ve acted sooner, not waited until

now to reveal it. The evidence they gathered is so extensive and detailed in such a short time; it’s

impossible unless divine intervention is at play!”

Indeed, how could it be possible. Whatever he discovered, they did too. Too coincidental to be a

coincidence!

Avery’s knuckles turned white with his grip, and he forced out through clenched teeth, “Back to the

Velvet Haven!”

Upon Avery entered the entrance of the Velvet Haven, his expression as grim as the judge of the

underworld. Anyone could see the tiger was enraged.

“Harvey, bring Elsie to me, Avery shot Harvey a frosty glance.

Harvey hurriedly nodded, his heart lurching.

Minutes later, Elsie entered the execution chamber, where countless incompetent subordinates and

traitors had met their end.

As the door opened, the chilling scent of blood assaulted her senses.

“Mr. Chambers,” Elsie howed deeply. Although she appeared calm, her heart was pounding in her

throat.

In the dim, oppressive light, Avery sat leisurely on the dark red sofa, legs crossed, pouring the blood–

red wine down his throat.

“Matthew is suspected of embezzlement, bribery, and rape. Tonight, at the Chambers Group’s banquet,

he was arrested on the spot by the police. You’re aware of this, right?”

Elsie, doing her best to contain her fear, spoke softly, “Yes, it’s all over social media.”

“Evadne and Thaddeus managed to gather so much evidence against Matthew in such a short time; it

was like kicking a man when he’s down, catching the entire Chambers Group off guard.”

Avery swirled his wine glass, slowly smiling, “Tell me, their actions were so swift, precise, and ruthless,

even I was caught unaware, Could it be that they had some mastermind guiding them?”

Elsie, her body wrapped tightly in a form–fitting red dress soaked with cold sweat, her voice tinged with

hoarseness, “Ms. Ashbourne and Mr. Abernathy have always been your most formidable opponents,

with a team full of experts, and they have a lot of influence in society, knowing well how to win people

over. It makes sense they had help.”

“They know how to win hearts and minds, yes. But it makes me wonder if they’ve even managed to

turn those closest to me without a peep, as the words left his mouth, the room seemed to sway before

Elsie’s eyes!

In a sudden rage, Avery flung his wine glass in her direction. Instinctively, she stepped back, narrowly

avoiding a direct hit. The glass shattered against the tip of her stiletto instead, splashing red wine all

over her.

For a moment, Elsie’s mind went blank. The icy liquid seeped through her clothes, as if to penetrate

and chill her to the core.

But in two seconds flat, she regained her composure, her face betraying no flush of embarrassment or

pallor of fear, “Mr. Chambers, whatever is the matter? Whd’s angered you so?”

“You’re still playing dumb?” Avery closed the distance in large strides, grabbing her chin with a force

that brought tears to her resilience since you were young, was it for you to use against me?!”

I’m sorry, Mr. Chambers, but I truly don’t know what I’ve done wrong.” Elsie pleaded, with a tearful

shimmer of hurt in her eyes.

“In all of the Velvet Haven, I tasked only you and Harvey to investigate Matthew. You two are the ones

who know the evidence best!”

Avery’s breath was ragged with barely contained fury, his grip tightening as if to shatter the woman’s

delicate jaw, “Elsie, if there’s a mole by my side, who else could it be but you? You should know that I

despise traitors above all. And you should be well aware of how many disloyal curs have met their end

in this very basement!”

Tears brimmed in Elsie’s eyes as she shook her head desperately, “No, it wasn’t me.”

“If it wasn’t you, why aren’t you biting back at Harvey right now?”

A sneer twisted Avery’s lips, his eyes as cold and ruthless as a wolf’s, “Oh, because deep down you

know it wasn’t him. You have no grounds to blame him! Elsie, your life was a gift from me. I’m the one

who’s allowed you to live with dignity and grace for all these years, and this is how you repay me? With

treachery? You’ve really got some nerve!”
