Chapter 123: Stunning Apperanace
Bradley Adams took a moment to adjust his breathing, temporarily lifting his fingers off the shutter button. He looked up and scanned the actors around him. Neil Patrick Harris welcomed Amy Poehler with open arms as she arrived on the scene. Nearby, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki arrived together, expressing their admiration to Steve Carell.
The Emmy Awards were always like this, a sea of familiar faces from the small screen, making it hard to keep up. Thus, standing out at the Emmys was far more challenging than at the Golden Globes or the Oscars.
The red carpet in front of the Nokia Theatre had a unique setup. The theatre faced north, with an east-west street in front of it. The red carpet began from the western street, following the narrow sidewalk eastward until it reached the theatre entrance, then turned northward to the expansive plaza in front of the entrance.
Reporters were stationed on the south side of the sidewalk, able to interview or photograph any actor passing by. Fans were also present behind the reporters, but most of the audience gathered in the plaza, where they could get closer to the actors.
Suddenly, a wave of screams erupted from the start of the red carpet. Bradley glanced over, seeing a group of fifteen or sixteen-year-old girls screaming excitedly, almost overwhelming the reporters at the entrance. It was clear that the cast of "Glee" had arrived. This new show, which premiered last fall, had quickly become a sensation, making headlines with every news piece.
Reporters joked that while movies had "Twilight," television had "Glee."
Leaning forward, Bradley saw Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer among others arriving. The narrow red carpet path immediately heated up with excitement, almost making it hard to stand due to the fervent waves of energy.
Bradley wasn't particularly interested in "Glee," as the "New York Times" wouldn't allocate much space to a teen show. However, he still took a few photos, just in case.
These young idols were receiving unprecedented attention, appearing both excited and restrained. Their enthusiastic interaction with fans sparked even more excitement. Compared to the plaza, the fans here were fewer in number, but their excitement started drawing others towards the entrance, creating a chaotic atmosphere more reminiscent of the Teen Choice Awards than the Emmys.
Bradley focused his camera on Lea and Cory, sensing something unusual. Could they be dating? But on closer inspection, the signs weren't clear. As he pondered, he suddenly froze.
Behind the "Glee" cast, a sleek black Porsche pulled up. A tall, elegant man stepped out, casually surveying his surroundings as he buttoned the top button of his suit jacket. The sunset cast an artistic glow over him, capturing a moment of stunning elegance.
He wore a navy blue suit with a military-like sharpness that highlighted his jawline and tight frame. The slim lapels added a modern touch, breaking from vintage styles. The suit's fit was perfect, accentuating broad shoulders, a firm chest, and a straight posture. The crisp white shirt underneath, with hidden buttons, emphasized the suit's navy blue cold elegance. A pocket square with pearl white, light brown, and beige plaid patterns matched his bow tie, hinting at the suit's Burberry origin.
The minimalistic outfit was offset by the intricate brown brogue shoes, adding a youthful, rebellious edge to his otherwise sophisticated appearance.
The sudden flair in his expression overshadowed the sunset behind him.
"Click."
Bradley, momentarily lost, instinctively pressed the shutter, capturing the moment. Then the figure lifted his head, and Bradley's eyes widened: it was Renly Hall!
The premiere of "The Pacific" had piqued curiosity with his brief brilliance. His excellent performance was the discovery of a new talent, and the Emmy nomination was just the first step in Hollywood. But tonight, his stunning entrance revealed his full potential, leaving a lasting impact.
Despite the "Glee" cast's frenzy in front, Renly's appearance seemed overshadowed, unnoticed by most fans. The stark contrast between the fervor for "Glee" and the calmness surrounding Renly was striking.
Bradley chuckled, finding the situation amusing. The "Glee" cast, with members like 24-year-old Lea and 28-year-old Cory, wasn't truly high school-aged. In contrast, the 20-year-old Renly exuded a mature elegance that seemed to have seen the world's vicissitudes. His poised presence, under the blazing sunset, exuded a rich, wine-like maturity.
Unable to resist, Bradley continued snapping photos, capturing every moment amidst the crowd. Other journalists around him also focused their cameras on Renly, their instincts for news evident.
The "Glee" cast, engulfed in the spotlight, remained unaware of the shifting attention. The next day, they'd be shocked to find their coverage significantly diminished, as if the red carpet frenzy had been just a fleeting dream.
Initially nervous, Renly relaxed after stepping out of the car. The chaotic scene wasn't as overwhelming as he expected—no major cameras or fanfare followed him. It felt more like entering a busy bar than an award show.
Renly's calm demeanor, comparing the Emmys to a bar party, was unique.
Amidst the screams for "Rachel," "Finn," and "Kurt," Renly recognized the "Glee" cast. He intended to greet them but decided to wait due to the chaotic scene. Instead, he maneuvered around them, entering the red carpet area.
The red carpet felt too narrow, accommodating only four people abreast, with TV cameras further constricting the path. It felt more like a high school prom than the Emmys, he mused.
"Renly! Renly!" A faint call emerged from the cacophony, like a lone boat in a storm. Renly spotted the source, and immediately, a torrent of camera flashes ensued.
