Elisa chuckled and began serving the food to Bella. “If you find it tasty, feel free to have more.”
Bella was initially cheerful, but her mood suddenly soured.
When Elisa asked, Bella simply said she was feeling a bit nostalgic.
Seeing her expression, Elisa could roughly understand what Bella was reminiscing about.
Bella was simply thinking about her grandmother and Rachel.
If everything had gone as planned, they would be sitting together at the same table, enjoying a meal.
Instead of being in the hospital, it was just the three of them, all alone..
The root of all these problems was the annoying Kaylee.
Although Gareth didn’t really want to address this issue, since it had been brought up, he had no choice but to discuss it.
Gareth put down his fork and looked at Bella and Elisa. “I’ve given this matter a lot of thought. I trust Elisa, and I also feel that there’s something suspicious about this. Therefore, I plan to return to Wyrithian, which is Kaylee’s hometown, to investigate. By the time I come back, everything should be resolved easily.”
Seizing that opportunity, Gareth made his stance clear and laid out his action plan.
Elisa and Bella exchanged a glance.
Elisa voiced her concern. “Won’t this be too dangerous? How about we wait until I’ve recovered from my injuries? Then we can go together.”
Gareth originally wanted to refuse, but this time, Elisa was surprisingly firm.
She genuinely didn’t want anything unexpected to happen to the only people left by her side.
The whole situation with Kaylee was already quite mysterious. Therefore, she believed it would be better if they went together. At least they could watch out for each other that way.
Unable to resist Elisa’s insistence, Gareth agreed.
“So, did the doctor mention when Elisa can be discharged?” Bella asked casually at that moment.
Gareth said, “She’ll probably need to stay in the hospital for observation for about three more days, just to be on the safe side.”
Elisa nodded while Bella kept muttering the phrase ‘three days’ under her breath, looking deeply troubled.
Elisa noticed something was off and asked, “Is something wrong? Just tell me. I’m in good health. I’m only staying in the hospital for precautionary observation. I know my own body. If necessary, I can leave the hospital at any time.”
Before Bella could say anything, Gareth scolded, “Nonsense! How can you joke about your own health?”
“I’m not joking. I am a doctor myself. How could I not understand? Also, to be frank, there’s not a single doctor in the entire hospital who can surpass my skills.
What Elisa said might sound a bit harsh, but it was nothing but the truth.
Bella saw the two about to start arguing and wanted to mediate, but they were speaking back and forth so quickly that they didn’t give her a chance at all.
“Even a doctor doesn’t treat themselves. You know that well,” said Gareth.
“That’s what people generally say, but I know my own body best,” Elisa retorted.
“No. I simply won’t agree to your discharge from the hospital right now.”
“I am an adult. I don’t need anyone’s control or approval for my actions.”
Seeing the conflict about to escalate, Bella raised her voice, “Hold on, hold on, how about we listen to what I have to say before deciding-”
“Shut up!” Elisa and Gareth shouted in unison.
