Carle breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing her. "Oh, it's nothing. I was just wondering what you're doing now?"

"I'm driving at the moment."

"Oh? Where are you going at this hour?"

"I had dinner with my colleagues in the office just now and am heading home."

In actuality, Elisa was not heading home but was going to visit her grandmother, Julia.

Since Julia was a member of the Wickam family and was her ex-husband's grandmother, she feared telling Carle would make him insecure.

She did not dare to trigger his emotions in his current state.

Carle's eyes flashed. "I see. In that case, I'll let you focus on driving. Drive safely."

"Sure."

Elisa did not say anything to make him stay. Although Carle was disappointed, he had no choice but to end the call.

He instinctively clenched his phone as fear grew in his heart.

"Liz… Are you lying to me?" Carle looked at the phone screen. It was a photo of Elisa smiling radiantly. He had secretly taken the photo, and Elisa was unaware of it.

He caressed the screen with his finger. Worry and sadness grew in his eyes.

Elisa arrived at Wickam Manor an hour later.

Mr. Jones, the butler, smiled kindly upon seeing her. "Ms. Benett, you're here."

"Good to see you, Mr. Jones."

Mr. Jones smiled. "Same to you. Old Madam Wickam has just finished dinner and is having a walk in the backyard."

"All right. I'll go look for her there."

Mr. Jones grunted in agreement. Then, Elisa left for the backyard.

She had just walked away when someone appeared.

Mr. Jones was surprised to see the person. "Mr. Gareth? Ms. Elisa just arrived and went in to look for Old Madam Wickam."

Gareth nodded calmly. Elisa had greeted him just now.

"It's all right. You can leave."

"Sure."

Gareth began to head toward the backyard.

He soon heard the familiar warm and clear voice.

"Grandma, do you dislike me for visiting you too often?" Elisa sounded indignant.

Julia laughed and said, "When did you learn to argue with me? I'm just concerned that you are busy."

Gareth stood still and watched the two ladies facing away from him. The coldness in his gaze dissipated. One could see gentleness in his eyes if one observed closely.

He remained there and did not continue forward. It seemed he did not wish to disturb the peaceful scene before him.

However, his intense gaze attracted Elisa's notice, prompting her to turn around.

She was stunned to see Gareth.

Julia followed Elisa's gaze and saw Gareth. Her smile froze instantly.

"Why are you here?" Although Julia's dissatisfaction was not as evident as before, Gareth could still tell she was unhappy with him for disturbing her time with Elisa.

Gareth walked forward. "Dad asked me to get something, so I came to see you as well."

Elisa's eyes flickered slightly, but she did not say anything.

Although she knew it was impossible for Gareth to like her, she still felt he had come here deliberately. After all, he harbored an unknown aim toward her.

Previously, Gareth thought she was a greedy and devious person. But now, it seemed she was completely different from what he thought.

Elisa looked down slightly and avoided his gaze. She also did not speak but stood quietly before Julia.

Julia nodded and dismissed him with a wave. "Oh, then you should get the thing and leave. Since Elisa is here with me, I don't need your company."

Gareth was rendered speechless.

He stood still and did not move.
