How To Ruin A Love Comedy

Chapter 29

Chapter 29: P2 Date Event

Resting her arms on the corner of the desk and propping her chin up, the corners of Miyuki’s mouth tore open.

She was staring at the cake Matsuda got her.

She could feel the baker’s love in that beautiful cake.

It even has strawberries that she loves so much, making her love it even more.

His reaction to the accident at the theater, and his thoughtful actions when he was quitting the circle…

She knew that he had a more delicate side, but never even dreamt that he would give her such a gift.

‘I also need to give him a present.’

A bento is too boring… Maybe a cookie?

She stared at the cake for a long time, trying to think of a good reward for Matsuda, then picked up her phone.

He should have arrived by now.

Was what she thought as she opened the camera app.

‘Hmm….’

She was going to take a picture of the cake but something wasn’t quite right.

She quickly cleaned up all the stuff textbooks on her desk, ran down the stairs and yelled.

“Mom! Do we have any pretty plates?”

Midori, who was washing the dishes, tilted her head slightly.

“A pretty plate? Oh… To put that cake on?”

“Yeah. So do we have any?”

“It’s hard to say. Since to me all of them look pretty.”

That was the right answer. (TL Note: No equivalent in English, but it means something along the lines of ‘smart answer to a stupid question’)

Embarrassed, Miyuki was looking for a plate,

“I think it was about 2-3 years ago you bought a plate on a field trip? You bought a plate back then that was pretty why not use that one?”

When she heard Wateru who was watching tv from the living room, she let out an ‘ah!’.

A small plate with a cherry blossom in the middle that she bought with Tetsuya.

Why didn’t she think of it sooner? She used to use it quite often.

She opened the cabinet and took out the plate which hadn’t been used for quite some time, and fidgeted beside Midori.

She wanted to wash this plate, but Midori was already doing the dishes.

Midori understood her daughter’s feelings, and stretched out her hand that had a rubber glove on while laughing.

“Give it. I’ll wash it for you.”josei

Then, Miyuki gave it to her with a smile.

Then showed her urgency by tiptoeing back and forth while holding a dry handkerchief. (TL Note: Sorry I don’t know the right way to describe it. She kept tiptoeing and going back on her feet repeatedly was the idea I was trying to convey.)

Midori returned the washed plate and asked.

“Did Tetsuya give you that cake? Or was it Haruka?”

“Nope. I’m busy now so I’ll be heading upstairs. Thanks mom.”

“Alright. Anyway, when is Matsuda-kun coming? You said you would pick the date.”

Miyuki, who was about to exit the kitchen stopped for a moment.

“I didn’t choose a date yet…”

“Pick it quickly. If you keep putting it off it’ll never happen.”

“I understand… I’m going to head upstairs now?”

“Sure.”

Having finished the conversation, Miyuki grabbed a fork with a cute bunny drawn on it and returned to her room.

Making sure the cake wouldn’t get ruined, she carefully took it out and put it on the plate. (TL Note: ??? Why get a plate with a design in the middle at that point lol.)

After putting the fork on edge of the plate, it looked quite good.

She took a picture of it, and tried to think of a message to send to Matsuda.

[It’s too pretty to eat.]

Something feels missing…

Should she put something behind it?

[It’s too pretty to eat ♥]

Was a heart too much…? It might seem too frivolous.

A question mark or exclamation mark feels too boring….

She worried about things she would normally never do, and just decided to send a character emoticon afterwards.

“….”

Even though she waited quite a while, there was no reply.

Is he showering? Did he get into a crash on the way home?

She imagining quite extreme things while worrying about Matsuda when she heard her phone vibrate, and unlocked it immediately.

[Miyuki, did you get home safe?]

The message was from Tetsuya, not Matsuda.

When she was the message, she very briefly felt disappointed… But it passed by almost immediately.

So quickly in fact, that she herself didn’t realize how she felt.

[Yeah. Ofcourse I made it home safely.]

[That’s good to hear. I was worried because you didn’t contact me.]

Now that she thought about it, Tetsuya did tell her to contact her when he was leaving the car.

She completely forgot.

Feeling sorry, she took a picture of the plate without the cake.

[Do you know what this is?]

[We bought it 2 years ago at Okinawa right?]

[That’s right. You actually remembered?]

[It’s something full of our memories together. Of course I should remember. Are you still using it?]

[Very often. What about Tetsuya-kun?]

[I also use it sometimes to put some side dishes on it. That reminds me, do you still have that… necklace I bought for you in elementary school?]

Miyuki looked towards her door after seeing the message.

A cute cat with it’s right paw lifted up hung on the above it.

Mokineko, which was said to bring good fortune was made into a necklace.

[Of course, it’s bringing me good luck from the ceiling of my room.]

[I still remember you being really happy when I bought you that. Also, good job on making it to student council today.]

[You’re telling me this now?]

[Sorry. Forgive me.]

She tried to make fun of him a little, but the reaction was a little lame.

If Matsuda were to receive such a message, he would have replied ‘be glad that I even said congratulations in the first place.’ or something of that sort.

[I’ll forgive you this one time. Thank you, Tetsuya-kun.]

Miyuki imagined conversing with Matsuda as she calmed down Tetsuya,

Buzz!

As soon as Matsuda’s message showed up with the vibration, she clicked on it.

[If you eat late at night, you’ll get fat. And make sure you brush your teeth. You’ll get cavities. Or don’t.]

A reply that has a completely different temperature to Tetsuya’s.

Even such a simple text has Matsuda’s personality written all over it.

In the past, she would have thought him rude, but not now.

She just thinks that it’s very much in character for Matsuda.

[Matsuda-kun are you a tsundere?]

[Are you kidding me?]

Even such an insignificant reply was already so fun.

Miyuki smiled brightly as she fell deeper and deeper in conversation with Matsuda.
