Chapter 274 - We Have A Bigger Problem Now...
"What's going on over there on Dragon Island? Our city's guardian is crying!"
"You call such mighty roars like that a cry? Nevertheless, something is definitely going on over there."
??People began to gather by the beachside and gazed at Dragon Island in the distance with looks of concern before they saw the dragon flew into the sky only to be caught by numerous nets binding it.
"Someone is trying to catch our city's guardian!" a lady immediately cried.
"What! Who dares?!"
Without surprises, the crowd was immediately incensed before they began reaching out to all their connections to seek an answer.
However, it did not take long before a middle-aged man within the gathered crowd mentioned, "If I'm not wrong, it should be peacekeeping forces under Captain Nikolai's lead!"
"I heard that they received approval from the mayor to tame our guardian, but I didn't think that it would actually happen. Are they not afraid of angering all the people in Silvercove City?!"
"What! Son of a b****!"
The crowd became even more enraged after hearing the piece of news before they began raining curses at the peacekeeping forces and the mayor.
"What dogshit mayor is this? How could he approve this?! They want to make a pet out of or guardian and take him away!"
"F*ck! Bring it to the local forums! Let everyone know! We must riot and condemn the peacekeeping forces for trying to enslave our guardian!"
…
…
…
Within a few minutes, the online forums quickly lit on fire with fiery debates and curses from netizens located not only within Silvercove City but its neighboring cities.
[FcukDaPolice23: This Captain Nikolai and his cronies are too shameless, going after the Silvercove Guardian like that.]
[ListlessMonk02: Yeah! These people are too outrageous. If the dragon is friendly to humans, we should try to befriend it, not control it.]
[DragonRider56: And definitely not antagonize it! That's like asking the dragon to become an enemy of humanity!]
[…]
The netizens quickly went silent for a brief moment after the last person spoke, causing the person to be taken aback.
[DragonRider56: What? Why did everyone suddenly go silent?]
[DigBickHero892: Your username is pretty antagonizing enough.]
[MissTigBitties13: Definitely.]
[DragonRider56: Haiz, leave me be. I made this username many years ago.]
…
The forums were heated with discussions about the dragon before they quickly derailed into other topics unrelated to the matter.
In the end, the dragon's matter did not really concern them.
…
…
…
Roar!
The dragon continued to roar furiously in its attempts to break free from its bindings in the air, but the peacekeeping soldiers eventually brought it down to the ground with a strong pull.
Bam!
The dragon slammed against the ground with a heavy thud before it issued a painful groan and glared at the surrounding peacekeeping soldiers keeping it bound with all their efforts.
"Hold! Keep it lying there!" Captain Nikolai barked at his men as he approached the dragon with an excited glint.
At the same time, Captain Nikolai's informant followed him by his side and asked, "We have, more or less, captured the dragon successfully, but how do you plan to go about taming it, sir?"
"Naturally with the most effective method by giving it treats it has never tasted before. Bring forward the chest of seasoned meat!" Captain Nikolai ordered.
The informant's expression quickly crumpled with an awkward look.
The captain wants to tame a dragon like how people tame wild cats and dogs?
To begin with, they do not even know whether what they offer will be to the dragon's liking or not.
Nevertheless, the informant quickly complied, "Yes, sir!"
Shortly after, the two peacekeeping soldiers quickly brought the chest of seasoned meat from the ship before Captain Nikolai stood in front of the dragon's field of vision and stared at it as it stared back.
It seemed to have given up resisting, but the peacekeeping soldiers did not relax their guard and kept a firm grip on their nets as their stamina dwindled and their exhaustion slowly built up over time.
Soon, Captain Nikolai kicked open the chest before grabbing a few nicely seasoned and cooked meat before closely bringing it towards the dragon's mouth.
"Be careful, captain!" the peacekeeping soldiers immediately warned.
"Don't worry. I know what I am doing," Captain Nikolai assured before tossing the meat after pausing his steps within a short distance from the dragon.
The dragon quickly reacted to the meat dropped before it, as it retreated with his head raised slightly.
However, after smelling the pleasant aroma exuding from the meat, it slowly stopped before gazing at the meat suspiciously with caution.
After snorting and hissing at the meat with its breath, it bit the bullet and swallowed the meat whole before relishing in delight.
Captain Nikolai immediately took it as a positive sign.
"It's working!" Captain Nikolai's eyes lit up before he mused, "However, this is only the first step. The next step is to show that I mean it no harm. This is a matter of trust."
"Captain, the soldiers are exhausted. We need to cage it quickly to let our men catch a breather," the informant stated after observing the peacekeeping soldier's expression.
However, Captain Nikolai insisted, "Let them hold for a bit longer."
With that said, Captain Nikolai shortened the distance between him and the dragon further as he raised his hand and wanted to pat the dragon's head to build up the so-called trust.
The dragon raised its guard in response.
When it saw the human's hand moving closer and closer to its head, the dragon immediately had flashbacks of its cheeks getting smacked left and right before it reacted violently with all its strength.
Roar!!!
With a mighty roar, the dragon quickly broke free from the net bindings and threw the tired peacekeeping soldiers left and right with waves of its wings before taking to the skies with a powerful flap, blowing peacekeeping soldiers back further by the strong gust of wind.
After regaining its freedom, the dragon did not fly away but gazed down on the peacekeeping soldiers with hostility.
"Oh, no! The dragon has broken free! We need to capture it again before it gets away quickly!"
"I think we have a bigger problem now…" a peacekeeping soldier gulped.
