Chapter 139 - Verxal's Assistance
Chapter 139 - Verxal's Assistance
The guards helped Ellena bring the commander's body to the residence of the Murphey Family. And just along the way, we separated from the three. They all decided to meet again later after Ellena settled things. Since they won't be even needed, it's better that Ellena settle it.
When we arrived at the residence, Ellena was assisted by the guard to the main building. Of course, we passed through the main door.
It was even more beautiful than I expected. Although I already had thought of it, it's merely below Lumbert's mansion standards. But I am not here for comparison. I just didn't mind things and continued following them.
Ellena was also vigilant. I don't know why, but I think I have a little idea. It was perhaps her hidden identity? Well, I don't know and it's not important. The purpose of that hidden identity was not to make enemies but to make points. If it ends there and we can't further exploit it, I don't have a problem. We could just leave this place and find another place to make a base.
As we entered the building, I noticed that there were more elite guards here. I think there are at least 6 on this floor.
I also don't know if the household has more wealth than their rank, and I don't care. I thought it was interesting at first, but now I am tired of it. Let's just see how Ellena handles this.
We went up to the 3rd floor and met with Verxal. He was in his room but the secretary was not present. How sad. I was hoping to see her expression after seeing Ellena. Or I am wrong... Maybe she has already forgotten Ellena. It was even a week, or at least 2.
"Miss Ellena?" Verxal mumbled as soon the door was opened by the guard assisting Ellena.
Ellena nodded and proceeded to enter the room. She looked at the guard and ordered him to leave, which he willingly obeyed.
Nice... Things are sailing smoothly and there are no interventions.
"What's your business coming here? Do you perhaps want to change your mind?"
Ellena just chuckled softly and sat on the couch. "No. Sadly, I am here because of a criminal. Someone who came from an organization wanted to kill me. Can you help me?"
I see... Ellena doesn't want to waste any time. It's commendable, but she's being a pushover. And it's not the best card to show, isn't it? Or maybe she believes that Verxal likes her?
I am also confused. How did she learn about these things? Did she somehow patch it up?
Well, even kids know what they like and love. They just don't know the real value and meaning of it until they get mature. Well, at least for Ellena, she's showing the personality of a normal teenager. Or maybe she is already acting like one and I am ignoring it unconsciously.
Nevertheless, I don't think it's bad. At least, she's not the one who likes Verxal...
It would be bad.
Verxal's expression started to get blooming after a frown visited. "How can I help you? And with this criminal, what do you mean?" Verxal asked.
Ellena just took a glance at me and asked, 'Does Verxal show any sign of bad intentions towards me?'
I shook my head as what I could only see in him was a joy. But of course, I don't want to say it to her. Maybe she'll just use that on him and I'll feel bad about it. Verxal is at least a guy who I can trust, even if he doesn't know me.
Well, let's just forget that he somehow can feel my presence.
"The Masked Monster, do you know her?" Ellena asked.
Verxal had a deep thought and nodded afterward. "Yes, I have a duel with her in two days. That duel is supposed to be his test to jump to White Gold, " he said.
Ellena smiled after that, then slowly, she revealed what she meant by prolonging the conversation.
"Why do you ask? Is she part of those people who wanted to kill you?" he asked with a frown on his face.
"No. Actually, I am The Masked Monster. Or what people wanted to call me." she cringed afterward.
Haha. That expression, I can't get enough of it. She's overly cringing. That recognition and cliche way of nicknaming people, I can't feel any coolness or amazingness with that.
Verxal's eyes turned into flickering. "You mean... you're that mysterious rookie? As expected of Ellena!"
"Sad to say, but it wasn't what I expected. I wanted people to be wary of me since I needed it. But it turns out that after a week of recognition, someone was affected and wanted me gone."
Verxal's expression became stiff and serious. Slowly, she put her hands on the table and leaned his elbows on his knees.
"Can you tell me what it's all about?"
Ellena nodded and started explaining things, starting with the ambusher and the ruckus in the test. Of course, it was the news that reached HQ that eventually took Verxal's interest for a short time.
After some explaining, Verxal started to understand why someone wanted her dead that even I couldn't fathom. It turned out that Verxal was a ridiculously smart person, which I didn't think he'd be.
No offense.
"I think you somewhat hit a nerve of a noble, Ellena. And because of your uncertain background, they at least wanted to erase you for sure." Verxal said.
"Then, what's the point? I can't remember who I offended. Even if I offend someone, I'm sure no one can fight me now, except for important people."
What an arrogant person. But I know it's only for the talk and the conversation. But yeah, unnecessary things are unnecessary in the end.
"Maybe someone wanted to outshine you as a rookie but in the end failed. And he or she was a noble. It might explain why someone wanted you dead."
"And yeah, since that hired group failed, they were hurt and wanted to clear you for good as criminals and such organizations that are supposed to be famous in the underworld are prideful. They can't let one target escape."
Ellena nodded and she continued what Verxal started. "But it tuned out that they were wrong. They thought of victimizing me, but now that they know me, they'll think of it slowly. And by the way, the commander that I caught, it was a berserker."
Verxal's eyes widened in surprise. I guess berserker abilities are unique and rare. They can't be found easily and are also extremely difficult to handle.
"You caught a berserker?! You're really amazing! Why do you even need to fight me if I can just recommend you."
Ellena just shook her head. "I already said that I want to build my own foundation, right? Director Yskaen already gave me a proposal to be an executive in HQ but I declined.. I wanted people to know me because it's important."
