I Became A System

Chapter 185 - Put The City Into Prosperity

Chapter 185 - Put The City Into Prosperity

After a while, when the night struck again, Aaron returned to the inn as there was nothing more to be seen.

It was his intuition telling him to see it from other angles. Since he had already seen the angle where the perpetrators themselves act, he had to see the side of the townspeople and the tax collectors.

However, the only question he has is where to find the tax collectors. Since there was pretty much nothing to be compared between thugs and normal citizens, he was at the edge of his thinking.

But just as he wanted and also since he works alone right now, he is pumped to know more and widen his cards.

'I will check the other businesses. I'll get a chance to see a tax collector since it was just last night since the inn was bombarded.'

While keeping his composure intact, he couldn't help but scream in joy inwardly. Such an exciting challenge that he hasn't experienced since he became a system.

If things go as planned, he'll be fully relieved.

'Where were you, Aaron?' Ellena asked as soon as he returned.

"I just made some business. Some investigation to be exact."

Ellena was intrigued by what Aaron said, and as a hint, she asked a question about it.

'What do you mean?'

"Well, apparently, this city is corrupted because of the new landlord and his ally. I am thinking of cleaning some trash."

'Can I join?'

"You still have a case of Gero, right? Don't chew too much food that you can't swallow. It's bad."

Ellena just snickered at how Aaron said how 'bad' it was. As Aaron felt offended by Ellena's action, he retorted.

"Why are you laughing like that?"

'Nothing. I might have something 'bad' with my mind. Anyway, I'll be sleeping now.' Ellena said before she lay down on her bed.

"By the way, what have you learned today? Did you learn something about the village?" Aaron asked.

Ellena took a seat with her feet crossed in front of Aaron.

'I learned something. Apparently, there was a legend about a monster that lived in these lands before. However, after the expansion of the dukedom, it was driven away and remained a legend. And also, it was oddly connected to what I saw in the village.' Ellena said while remembering what she learned today.

"What? Can you elaborate?"

'Well, I am thinking that the legend was true and not only a hoax since I found some webs that also describe the monster from legends, which is a Dark Dreadful Spider.' Ellena added.

"Now... how about the people? Do they know that the villagers were dead?"

Ellena shook her head. "Apparently not. Since they care less about the village. Also, I am thinking of visiting another city to know about some reports. The adventurers' guild here is crap.'

"Ah... So it was like that..."

As things were also connected with what truly happened in the village, Aaron smiled inwardly, taking things into his interests.

"Okay. But I will stay here."

Instinctively, Ellena raised her eyebrow in confusion at what Aaron had just said.

'Why do you want to stay?'

"I really have something interesting to know. So just do your things. I will see you in 3 days. I promise."

Deep inside, Aaron was viciously smiling. As he began to unravel the mystery, he couldn't wait to put Ellena to bed before departing to investigate the tax collection scheme.

'In three days, I will solve and clean this bullshit city. And for sure, I will look for the proper person who'll put the city into prosperity.'

For Aaron, it wasn't merely because of his rage at oppression. It is now fun and for the mystery he sees.

'But still, this mystery isn't mysterious as I hoped.'

"Here we are again."

As soon as the tax collectors arrived, Aaron patiently waited until they came back to their base. When he was finally sure that they were all gathered in one place, and also learned their location, he launched an attack.

"Summon, Cules."

In the next fragment of a second, Cules appeared and received his orders.

"Eat them."

As indiscriminately as it seems, Aaron couldn't care less about it. What's in his mind is to destroy the composure of the nobles that pull the strings to oppress the people.

"I only want to wait for someone who'll hear about this."

And just after it, Cules started attacking and eating all the thugs inside their base.

In the late-night, cries of terror filled the air, along with their remorseful hoarse voices.

"Sing for me," he smiled, along with a vicious intent behind it.

The next morning, Walter was violently walking, stomping his feet in rage over what he had just heard.

"You tell me that the bastards ran as well? Now tell me, was their last trace from the inn that you told me about before." Walter's face was now covered with veins that appeared visibly, hinting at his anger.

As much as he didn't want to believe it, he couldn't ignore the fact that someone had dared to mess with him.

"No. Master. The inn was clear and their last trace was in their base. However, their base was left clean as well as the money that they collected."

"FUCKING BASTARDS! THEY DON'T KNOW WHO'S BACKING US?! WE ARE SUPPORTED BY THE FUCKING MARQUIS PHOBIOUS! HOW DARE THEM!"

As entertaining as it seems, Aaron couldn't help but giggle while he watched them. The rage and veins that appeared in Walter's face were priceless. The way he destroys his things without thinking that he'll be more in deficit than he currently is.

After he killed the thugs, Aaron kept the money on Ellena's side with the pretext that it was for temporary storage. Ellena just didn't ask about it and just followed Aaron's words.

And just as things started to follow Aaron's anticipation, his eyes were filled with exhilaration.

'Now after this, I will secure the next in line for the position. I heard that the landlord has a brother... Hahaha... This is amazing!'
