143 Meeting Hu Jin Again
Shen Yin lowered her eyes. She understood why Old Master had summoned her back this time. It was just that matters of the heart could not be forced. She could only say that she was not fated to be with Lian Jing.
When the Old Master saw that she was unmoved by his words, he understood what was in her heart. He sighed and patted her hand. “Good girl, you haven’t eaten yet, right? Go downstairs and eat. You still have to go back to work after lunch.”
“Grandpa, you have to take good care of yourself.” Shen Yin tucked the Old Master in reluctantly and instructed Shen Nian to spend more time with the Old Master before she went downstairs to eat.
Lian Jing was the only one at the dining table.
Shen Yin walked over silently and sat in her usual seat, then started eating as if nothing had happened.
Lian Jing suddenly put down his bowl and chopsticks and looked at her meaningfully. “Grandpa’s health is getting worse.”
Shen Yin looked at him gloomily, waiting for him to continue.
When she did not respond, Lian Jing said nonchalantly, “Do you want to move back and spend more time with Grandpa? Grandpa likes you very much. Ever since you left, he has been talking about you every day.”
Shen Yin’s heart suddenly ached, and her eyes reddened. When she saw the Old Master this time, she could tell that the old man’s health was much worse than when she first saw him.
Except…
Lian Jing seemed to discern her emotions and concerns. He frowned and turned his head away. “Don’t worry. I promise that what happened last time won’t happen again. I can do without you.”
That was for the best.
Shen Yin nodded calmly and agreed to stay at the Lian residence that night.
Lian Jing heaved a sigh of relief. After eating, he did not look at Shen Yin. He went to the office, as if he really had no more designs on her.
After Shen Yin finished eating, she went to take a look at Grandpa Lian. She did not have the heart to disturb him when she saw that he was sleeping soundly. She quietly left the room, got into the car that the butler had arranged for her, and went to the police station.
The police officers had also just finished lunch. Zou Sheng was feeling sleepy but when he saw Shen Yin, he hurriedly perked up and greeted her.
Shen Yin sat at the long table and said with a smile, “You didn’t rest last night. Take advantage of your lunch break to sleep more. Don’t worry about me.”
Zou Sheng smiled in embarrassment. He lay his head on the table again and closed his eyes. He was instantly asleep.
Shen Yin mentally sorted out the information she had obtained this morning and started to investigate Hu Jin’s company herself.
She had a vague suspicion. She was sure that the man Wang Gang had met at Rongsheng Restaurant every week was Hu Jin.
However, after searching for an entire afternoon, she could not find any connection between them.
Lunch break was soon over. Meng Heng and Wu Zheng walked into the office and greeted Shen Yin when they saw her.
Meng Heng saw Zou Sheng sleeping and walked over and rudely woke him up.
Zou Sheng opened his blurry eyes and looked at him in a daze. “Little Meng, stop fooling around. Let me sleep for a while more.”
“Wake up, the captain is here.” Meng Heng patted him awake and sat next to him. He looked at Shen Yin, who was deep in thought. “Sister, what are you thinking about?”
Shen Yin snapped out of her trance and smiled faintly. “Zou Sheng and I are preparing to go to the parents’ house again in the afternoon.”
Wu Zheng was in low spirits after being reprimanded by the leader. When he heard Shen Yin’s words, he asked curiously, “Is there anything else you want to know?”
Shen Yin said softly, “Yes, I want to understand Hu Jin’s financial situation after he got married.”
After reporting to Wu Zheng, Shen Yin drove Zou Sheng to the address that they had obtained.
Zou Sheng raised his hand and knocked on the door. An old man quickly opened the door. When he saw the two unfamiliar people, he grew wary and wanted to close the door. But when Shen Yin showed her police badge, the old man relaxed and invited them in.
Tan Li’s parents were already in their fifties. Their hair was gray at the temples, and their faces were haggard. It was obvious that they were mourning over their daughter’s tragedy.
When Shen Yin and Meng Heng entered, they realized that Tan Li’s husband, Hu Jin, was also there.
The old woman wiped her tears and cried as she tightly clutched her daughter’s photograph. She complained to them with tears in her eyes, “Why don’t you police catch the criminal who killed my daughter? Why are you visiting our house repeatedly? If the criminal was here, would we still need you?!”
The old man also hugged his wife’s shoulder with tears streaming down his face. “Cen Cen, forget it. I believe the police will catch the murderer as soon as possible and avenge our daughter!”
Hu Jin comforted Tan Li’s mother. “That’s right, Mom. We have to cooperate with the police.”
Only then did the old woman wipe her tears and say hoarsely, “What do you want to know? Go ahead and ask us.”
Shen Yin smiled faintly and handed the old woman a tissue. She said slowly, “We can understand how you feel. Don’t worry, we’re working hard on the case. We hope you will cooperate with us. We came today to ask you about your daughter’s situation after she got married.”
“Haven’t I told you already?” The old woman complained, “Do you police officers know how to do your job? How many times do we have to repeat ourselves?”
