207 Discussing the Case
“D*mn, they’re too vicious. They didn’t even give the old lady food?” Zou Sheng pursed his lips and sighed.
The interview had shown that after the two of them were not at all sad when they found out about the old woman’s death. Instead, they were plotting something.
It was said that a son was one’s safeguard in old age, but if one raised a thief, one was destined to have one’s bone marrow sucked dry.
“Let’s not discuss whether these those are filial. Our first goal is to eliminate them as suspects.” Wu Zheng quietly listened to their analysis of the case and spoke at the right time, just as everyone had digressed.
“Judging from the modus operandi, I think the murderer means to insult her. If it was a typical revenge killing or murder for money, the old lady’s death would not be so humiliating.” Shen Yin looked at the photo in her hand. It was really hard to imagine which murderer would be so deranged as to try to sexually assault an old lady in her seventies.
“I agree with Sister’s view.” Meng Heng raised his hand and tapped on the photo of the knife wound on the old woman’s abdomen. He said, “These stabs were likely just to subdue the old woman. Otherwise, he could have killed the old woman directly. In addition, we can’t rule out the possibility that the murderer had an emotional connection with the old woman. It might not be an ordinary murder and rape case.”
“Then the murderer is very likely to be a villager,” Zou Sheng said as he pulled up all the information about the villagers and placed their photos on the big screen one by one. He asked, “Can we eliminate the females first?”
“Not necessarily.” Wu Zheng rubbed his chin as was his habit when he was thinking. His eyes were eagle-sharp. “A woman is not strong enough. As Meng Heng said just now, she would need some way to subdue the deceased, so we can’t rule out the women.”
“No way. There are hundreds of people in the village. How are we going to investigate?” Zou Sheng spread his hands in shock. It was hard to imagine how long it would take to investigate them one by one.
“Did you find any fingerprints at the crime scene?” Wu Zheng turned to look at Shen Yin. If they could find clues, it would greatly reduce their scope of investigation.
“The murderer was very careful. Not only did he not leave any fingerprints, he didn’t even leave any dandruff or hair.” Shen Yin naturally would not miss such details. During the autopsy, she focused on the gaps between the victim’s nails and hair that had fallen on her body, but all these belonged to the victim. There was no trace of any stranger.
“Where did the stockings come from?” Zou Sheng suddenly asked.
Shen Yin threw the evidence bag on the table and said calmly, “This is a common type of women’s stockings. There’s nothing special about them. Although Chengxi is a village, it has always been fairly well off. Almost every young woman has such stockings at home.”
“Isn’t that another useless clue?” Zou Sheng clutched his thermos in disappointment. He gently rested his chin on the lid of the thermos. His eyes bored a hole in the photo on the table.
“There’s no better way. We have to visit and investigate them one by one.” Wu Zheng collected the evidence bags and photos and began to assign tasks. “Zou Sheng, Meng Heng, the two of you go to Chengxi Village again. Focus on investigating the ones who might have had a dispute with the deceased when they were alive or when they were young. Take detailed statements. Dr. Shen, stay here and continue to look for clues from the deceased.”
“What about you, Captain Wu?” Zou Sheng picked up his notebook and blinked at his leader.
Wu Zheng looked at the time expressionlessly and glanced at him coldly. “I’m going to the bureau chief’s office to get scolded.”
Zou Sheng quickly lowered his head to hide his smile. He only dared to laugh after Wu Zheng left the office.
Meng Heng walked over and patted his shoulder. “Alright, stop gloating. When the captain comes back after being scolded by the chief, he’ll scold us.”
“Sigh, it’s really not easy being a captain. He will certainly receive a scolding whenever a case blows up. We have it easier. We just have to treat ourselves as ruthless investigation machines and shut up and do our work.”
Zou Sheng picked up the thermos and notebook and smiled.
Shen Yin shook her head helplessly. “You guys will be busy later. Don’t forget to buy some food on the way. I’m afraid you’ll only get to eat lunch in the car.”
“Got it, Sister.” Meng Heng nodded. From the corner of his eye, he saw Zou Sheng staring straight at Shen Yin. His face immediately turned cold. He grabbed his arm and turned to leave.
“Brat, let go of me! I haven’t said goodbye to Dr. Shen yet!” Zou Sheng staggered behind him and almost fell. He felt embarrassed and blushed as he shouted at Meng Heng, who was walking off with his head lowered.
Meng Heng ignored him completely and only let go after leaving the office. He walked in front in silence.
Zou Sheng chased after him and walked next to him. He curiously bumped Meng Heng’s shoulder and asked, “Do you still like Dr. Shen?”
“None of your business.”
