Chapter 97 - 97 Giving Up

97 Giving Up

Shen Yin was stunned. She looked guiltily at the smirking Shen Nian and denied it. “No, why should he sleep here?”

“Okay, okay, okay. He didn’t.” Shen Nian hugged her waist tightly and leaned into her arms.

He already knew that Lian Jing was not the scumbag ex-husband he thought he was, but his real father.

Although he did not understand why the two of them had given birth to him, he was naturally happy to see his mother and father in love. He just did not know if his father could stand his mother’s inability to admit to her true feelings.

However, this was not something he had to worry about. He just had to stay by their side and be a simple and happy six-year-old child.

Shen Yin had not slept well last night after being tormented by Lian Jing. With her obedient son in her arms, her troubled heart was soothed and she and Shen Nian slept soundly together.

They slept until the afternoon before Shen Yin was awakened by a knock on the door.

Shen Nian got up from the bed and opened the door. He saw two uncles he did not know standing at the door.

“You’re Nian Nian, right? We’re your mother’s colleagues. We need to see her.” Meng Heng bent down and raised his hand to stroke the boy’s hair, but Shen Nian sidestepped. His large eyes coldly swept over the palm that was suspended in mid-air.

When Shen Yin heard Meng Heng’s voice, she knew that they were here to take her statement, so she shouted, “Nian Nian, let them in.”

Shen Nian obediently moved aside. His expression softened and he put on a sweet smile again. He turned around and ran back into Shen Yin’s arms.

Meng Heng retracted his hand in embarrassment, disappointment flashing across his eyes.

He followed Wu Zheng into the ward and saw Shen Yin lying on the bed with her neck and wrists bandaged. His heart ached slightly.

“Dr. Shen, I’m sorry to disturb your rest, but as you know, we have to record your statement.” Wu Zheng apologetically took out a recorder.

Shen Yin smiled understandingly. “You don’t have to be so polite, Captain Wu. I have yet to thank you for saving me yesterday.”

Meng Heng’s eyes reddened in guilt. “Sister, I’m sorry. If I had been more capable, I could have saved you earlier. Perhaps you wouldn’t have been injured then.”

“It’s not your fault.” Shen Yin smiled helplessly.

Wu Zheng patted Meng Heng’s shoulder, indicating that he should control his emotions.

He took out Shen Yin’s phone and returned it to her.

Meng Heng also knew that they should take the statement as quickly as possible so that Shen Yin could rest, so he did not say anything else. He nodded and took out a notebook.

Shen Yin slowly recounted what happened yesterday. Just hearing her conversation with the murderer horrified Wu Zheng.

In such a situation, normal people would try their best to calm the murderer down so that he would not lose control of his emotions and do something drastic.

However, Dr. Shen had the guts to provoke the murderer, trying to find his weakness during his emotional outburst and break through his psychological defense.

This was not the actions of an ordinary person. It was clear how calm and alert Shen Yin was in times of danger.

Wu Zheng sincerely extended his hand. “Thank you, Dr. Shen. It’s all thanks to Dr. Shen that this case was solved. When you’re discharged, Team Three will treat you to a meal.”

Shen Yin politely took his hand and briefly touched it before swiftly withdrawing it. She still had a polite smile on her face.

Meng Heng and Wu Zheng were about to leave, but Meng Heng turned and looked at Shen Yin. He wanted to say something but hesitated. He dithered for a while, then said impetuously, “Sister, it was Lian Jing who brought us to you. He must have attached some device to you. You have to be extra careful.”

“I know.” Shen Yin nodded and subconsciously looked in the direction of the window. The ring she had flung aside was now lying in the dust. Without sunlight, the silver ring no longer emitted any light.

Meng Heng knew from Shen Yin’s expression that the latter knew what had happened. He did not know what to say, so he made some small talk before dejectedly following Wu Zheng out of the door.

“It’s time to give up, Little Meng.” Wu Zheng patted his shoulder comfortingly. “Shen Yin and Lian Jing have a close relationship. You won’t be able to interfere.”

“I know. It was just wishful thinking on my part.” Meng Heng sighed and said with a wry smile, “I’m afraid I can only address Shen Yin as ‘Sister’.”

Shen Yin?

The two of them left, each busy with their own thoughts. They did not notice that the man passing by had stopped in his tracks the moment he heard the name.
