Chapter 20: Your Stepmom is My Big Sister-in-Law

When Bai Zhou stepped out of the room, he was followed by Chen Su, who looked like an angry pufferfish, pouting with her cheeks puffed out, staring at Bai Zhou with resentment.

She grumbled fiercely, “You really are a bad guy!!”

Bai Zhou laughed and replied, “I never said I was a good guy, did I?”

But then, Bai Zhou pulled out his phone.

“What … what are you doing?”

Chen Su looked at Bai Zhou’s actions, puzzled.

Bai Zhou said, “Didn’t you want to add me on WeChat? Or, have you changed your mind?”

Chen Su, who had been sulking like a pufferfish, suddenly lit up with joy,

“No, no, I still want to add you!”

See? This is what having a crush looks like. This is what they call the “youthful mental illness.”

Meanwhile, in Mu Qingqing’s office, she was trying to figure out how to get rid of Li Yonggang. But just then, Li Yonggang’s phone rang.

At first, he wanted to dismiss the call in frustration, but when he saw who it was, he jumped up from the couch: “Hello? Dad? You’re calling me?”

As brazen as Li Yonggang was, there was one person he was afraid of in this world. And that was the man who had given him everything—Li Tai!

Li Tai’s voice came through the phone: “What now? Are you at Mu Hai Group harassing that woman again?”

“Uh …” Li Yonggang’s face showed a hint of embarrassment as he said,

“Yeah.”

“Sigh! You, you!” Li Tai’s voice carried a tone of exasperation, “Come home right now!”

“Huh? But I …”

Today, Li Yonggang had finally managed to sit in Mu Qingqing’s office. He hadn’t even said a word before she mentioned she had a meeting and left him there. Now, just as she returned, his dad was calling him to go home.

“No buts!” Li Tai’s voice was firm and left no room for argument, “Come home! And tell Bai Zhou to drive to Binhe Theater to pick up your stepmom!”

“Alright …” When it came to his father, Li Yonggang had no choice but to obey. He had no choice but to agree, even though he was clearly frustrated.

After hanging up the phone, Li Yonggang placed the flowers on the table and said, “Uh, Qingqing, I’ll leave the flowers here. I have to go.”

After all, he came today to “apologize,” and he clearly remembered Bai Zhou telling him to “watch his attitude.”

Mu Qingqing felt a surge of relief but didn’t show it. She simply nodded and didn’t say anything.

“Argh! My temper!” Li Yonggang, who had been holding in his frustration, was on the verge of exploding.

But just then, the door opened with a creak, and Bai Zhou walked in.

Phew—

Upon seeing Bai Zhou, for some reason, Li Yonggang instinctively calmed down. He gave Mu Qingqing one last look, then turned and left the office.

Bai Zhou, with a smile playing at the corner of his lips, glanced at Mu Qingqing, only to receive a playful eye-roll in return.

As they exited Mu Hai Group, Li Yonggang said, “Oh, right, Bai Zhou, my dad wants you to go to Binhe Theater and pick up my stepmom.”

“Your stepmom?” Bai Zhou paused, “Oh~ my sister-in-law?”

Pfft! Hearing this, Li Yonggang almost choked on his own breath.

Damn it!  I have to call her ‘stepmom,’ but you just casually call her ‘sister-in-law’? What are you implying, that you’re my uncle?

But he knew that Bai Zhou’s address wasn’t entirely wrong. Because, among Li Tai’s direct subordinates, everyone called Li Tai’s young wife “sister-in-law.”

Meanwhile, Li Yonggang’s subordinates addressed his stepmother as “madam.” There was no way around it.

Still, hearing Bai Zhou say it left a bad taste in his mouth, especially since Bai Zhou was practically the same age as him!

“Ahem …” Li Yonggang cleared his throat, suppressing his discomfort, and said, “Bai Zhou, when you’re around me, it’s best to use a different title.”

“Uh … sure!”

A different title?! No way! Why would I give up such a perfect opportunity to mess with you? Hahaha!!

Even though Li Yonggang had a fiery temper, Bai Zhou hadn’t done anything wrong. Plus, Bai Zhou was his father’s trusted confidant, and that symbolic dagger was still in Bai Zhou’s possession.

So, Li Yonggang had no reason to get mad at him.

Bai Zhou nodded and said, “In that case, young master, I’ll head out first.”

“Go ahead.”

Li Yonggang naturally left with his entourage of lackeys. As Bai Zhou departed, he didn’t see the original protagonist, Chu Yun. He was probably hiding somewhere, venting his frustrations.

No matter.

Bai Zhou started his Mercedes S600L and drove towards Binhe Theater.

In the back of his mind, he was still wondering what Li Tai’s young wife looked like. Bai Zhou recalled the original description from the novel.

It mentioned a woman in her thirties, at least twenty years younger than Li Tai.

At the time, Bai Zhou had marveled at how Li Tai seemed ageless. But by the end of the novel, Bai Zhou realized that after five years of marriage, this young wife had not borne Li Tai any children.

That part always puzzled him.

At first, Bai Zhou thought maybe it was Li Yonggang’s doing, but it turned out that Li Yonggang was quite respectful to his stepmother.

Who knew why?

Lost in thought, Bai Zhou soon arrived at the entrance of Binhe Theater.

Just as he parked, a woman wearing a short cheongsam, carrying a Chanel bag, swayed her hips gracefully as she approached the car.
