Chapter 168 Train New Subordinates
The next day, Arlan headed to the basement to check on his captives.
"Good morning, boss!"
"Good morning, boss!"
The soldiers guarding the basement greeted Arlan when they saw him.
Arlan waved his hand and asked them. "How are those two?"
"The bodyguard is fine, but the late president's wife is not in good condition. She hasn't been eating well in the last few days..." The soldier paused and continued. "Dr. Mariano came here to observe her situation and he said that she was intentionally doing this."
"Is that so?" Arlan smiled in amusement. "Open the door for me. I'd like to speak with them."
"Yes, boss." The soldier complied and unlocked the door with a key.
As soon as he entered, he saw Ken and the president's wife. They were no longer bound like when they first arrived, but there were more guards monitoring their movements. Arlan intentionally made this arrangement to test Ken, but the guy didn't do anything strange despite having so many opportunities to escape.
Ken glanced at him and nodded his head, while the late president's wife snorted and looked away from him.
"I know you two are dissatisfied with my arrangements, but you should know that I'm being lenient to you guys. All of my enemies are already in hell, but here you are enjoying free food and free lodging from me." Arlan said in a joking tone as he grabbed a seat.
"What did you come here for?" Ken asked while looking straight at him. He had already given up on trying to escape. He knew that it was impossible to leave this place undetected with all those soldiers monitoring their every action. He also felt that Arlan had some plans to nurture him so he waited patiently until that day came. He was sick of working for corrupt politicians and he felt that he had a lot of room for growth if he worked for Arlan. This thought crossed his mind after seeing what he was capable of. Arlan also treated his soldiers nicely and he didn't treat them like dogs. This was the deciding factor that made him believe that working for Arlan wouldn't be bad at all.
Arlan smiled as he leaned on his chair. In the past few days, he deliberately showed some of his power to Ken, and from the looks of it, the guy was taking his bait. Ken didn't even notice that he was dancing in Arlan's palm.
Arlan turned his gaze toward the late president's wife and said. "Today, my people will bring you to the commanding general..."
"What did you say?!" She was visibly shocked by his words. She thought that he would continue to lock her up until the end of her days.
"Someone will come here to help you make yourself look more presentable." Arlan told her while looking at her haggard appearance.
She was embarrassed by her scrutinizing gaze, but she was also filled with hope at the thought of finally leaving this basement. She couldn't even contain the smile on her face. "Okay."
Arlan turned his gaze towards Ken and said. "As for you, follow me."
Ken's eyes flashed with a glint as he nodded his head. He followed Arlan out of the basement and they soon arrived in front of a vehicle.
"Get in." Arlan patted his shoulder.
Ken felt a bit nervous because there were armed soldiers inside the vehicle, but he still entered.
Arlan calmly sat beside him. "Let's go." He told the driver.
"Have you thought about what you will do?" Arlan suddenly asked.
Ken thought that Arlan was talking with the soldiers so he didn't say anything.
"Why are you silent?" Arlan stared at him with a smile.
Ken looked at him in surprise and asked while pointing at himself. "Sir, are you perhaps talking to me?"
"Who else am I talking to?" Arlan chuckled in amusement.
"Sorry, sir... To answer your question, I don't have anything in mind, but if you find me useful, I'll follow your arrangement." Ken answered honestly.
Arlan smiled upon hearing his words. He didn't say anything after that which made Ken slightly uncomfortable. He thought that Arlan might have lost interest in him.
After about twenty minutes of travel, they arrived in front of an old three-story building. The driver parked the vehicle in front of the building where a group of soldiers were waiting for them.
Arlan stepped out of the vehicle.
"Greetings, boss!" The soldiers guarding the building greeted him Ken didn't say anything and just followed them in silence.
respectfully.
"Take us inside the building." Arlan said.
"Yes, boss!" Two soldiers took the initiative to lead them inside.
Ken didn't say anything and just followed them in silence.
"Aren't you curious why I brought you here?" Arlan asked while turning his head to Ken.
Ken looked at him and shook his head.
Arlan chuckled and said. "Don't you want to see your subordinates?"
Hearing this, Ken's eyes flashed with joy. "You mean they are here?"
Arlan nodded his head. "That's right."
"We are here, boss!"
Ken stared at the door with a look of anticipation.
When the soldiers opened the door, Ken saw his subordinates playing cards inside. They didn't look like captives at all.
"Sir Ken!"
"Sir Ken!"
"You guys..." Ken held back his tears as he looked at his subordinates. None of them were missing.
Arlan watched their reunion with a smile on his face. He didn't disturb them and calmly waited for the group.
"Ehem!" A soldier faked a cough to grab their attention.
Ken noticed this and he quickly smiled apologetically at Arlan. "I apologize, sir. I was too excited to meet my friends."
Arlan didn't mind this and just waved his hand lightly. "You are elite bodyguards trained to serve important individuals. I need people like you to accomplish a goal. If you can meet my expectations, I don't mind taking you in." He said as he took a seat.
Ken and his subordinates revealed a look of interest when they heard his words.
