Chapter 218 Lieutenant General Rivera’s Proposal
Chapter 218 Lieutenant General Rivera’s Proposal
Senator Louie and the members of the opposition were taken to prison for their crime of rebellion. As the instigator of the coup, Senator Louie was sentenced to life imprisonment while the others received heavy sentences.
The battle caused a huge commotion in the shelter so everyone knew what had happened. When the people heard that the corrupt politicians were punished, they were satisfied. Because of those greedy officials, they received less and less support from the government. This caused many of them to feel sick and a few people even died because of the lack of medicine.
On the second day since the coup, President Manuel Chavez announced that they would increase the food assistance given to the citizens. He also mentioned that the government would offer more jobs to the public. A new monetary system was also introduced to the people.
Everyone was happy about the increase in food assistance and the opening of more jobs. However, many were confused about the new monetary system. People asked why they couldn't use the old money anymore.
When the officials heard the people's confusion, they immediately answered them. According to the officials, the old money could no longer be used since they could not produce them anymore with the fall of the Central Bank of Maharlika. The new monetary system introduced by the government came in the form of credit points. As for how the credit points will be exchanged, it's by using a unique product called a digital wrist wallet. It was a gadget that came in the form of a rectangular watch. Other than storing and exchanging credit points, it also has many other uses. It can be used like a mobile phone except for the lack of games and other leisure apps.
This gadget was a product of Last City. It was designed by Winter and her students when Arlan approved the new monetary system. Now, they are giving this unique gadget to the shelter. In exchange, Manuel Chavez sent a batch of farmers, fishermen, and tailors to Last City.
At this moment, Arlan was in his office reading the proposal of Lieutenant General Rivera. After going through the proposal, he passed it to Krizia who was seated beside him. He then stared at Lieutenant General Rivera and said. "General, in your proposal, you mentioned that Last City's military had many flaws. You didn't describe it deeply so please explain this to me."
Lieutenant General Rivera nodded his head. "Last City's military rankings are very messy. The soldiers aren't properly ranked. This might be alright at the moment, but to maintain the discipline of the soldiers, we need to adjust the military rankings properly. Second, the base is only focused on training ground units. There is a big imbalance in the personnel with our air force being severely lacking. We need to put more focus on training air force pilots. We also have to…"
Arlan became silent when he heard Lieutenant General Rivera's suggestion. The former chief of the Armed Forces of Maharlika was already showing his expertise. He also realized from the general's words that although Last City's armed forces were strong, there were many things that needed to be changed. "General, I will send this document to Rex De Guzman and Manuel Chavez. You should make the necessary changes after you get their approval."
"I understand." Lieutenant General Rivera nodded. "Mr. Roa, once this proposal is approved, I will send a list of the military rankings of our soldiers. You are the leader of the base so you have to make the appointment for the military officers."
Arlan nodded in understanding. "Alright."
"That's all I came here for. Thank you for your time." Lieutenant General Rivera stood up and saluted before he left the office.
"What do you think about his proposal?" Arlan asked Krizia who was reading the proposal.
Krizia shook her head. "I don't know anything about the military, but I believe that as the former chief of the Armed Forces of Maharlika, Lieutenant General Rivera knows what's best for the army. He is a trustworthy and loyal man. If you are worried, we can ask Winter's opinion about this."
"There's no need for that." Arlan shook his head. "I understood most of the commanding general's words. His proposal is indeed great and it will make Last City's military more cohesive and disciplined. We are lucky that we have him in the base."
Hearing this, Krizia nodded in agreement.
"By the way, how is the production of the digital wrist wallet?" Arlan changed the topic.
"Our factories are already working on them and we have hired more people to work on the project. The population of the two bases would soon reach 4 million so the factories need to build that much digital wrist wallet. Our supply of raw materials is still at normal levels, but they will soon dip down with this massive production. Boss, we need to gather more raw materials as soon as possible." As Arlan's assistant, Krizia knew almost everything about the base. She also handled most of the documents that were sent to Arlan so she was very clear on what was going on with the base.
"How many days do we have before our raw materials hit critical levels?" Arlan asked as he grabbed a document from his drawer. It was about the list of raw materials needed to build the digital wrist wallet.
Krizia furrowed her eyebrows as she thought deeply. "Our factories have increased production because of the huge orders coming from the shelter. I believe we only have three to five days left before our raw materials hit critical levels."
Arlan frowned at her words. Some of the raw materials for the digital wrist wallet were important materials for military equipment. Losing them would have a great impact on the production of these military equipment.
The army was constantly being deployed and their consumption of military resources was high. Losing one of these equipment would negatively affect the soldiers. Arlan didn't want that to happen.
"This matter needs to be addressed soon. How is the extraction of the raw materials going?" He asked. Last City already had a team responsible for collecting raw materials. Among the rewards he got from the mysterious app was a blueprint of deep-water mining technology. The base had already created the equipment, but because this tool is new to everyone, the workers are still not good at using it. Furthermore, the sea is also filled with evolved marine creatures and the navy had to be there to escort the underwater mining team.
"Unfortunately, they are still not doing well. The presence of the evolved marine creatures increased the difficulty of mining the raw materials. Our navy personnel are also deployed in many regions so only one ship with 200 soldiers is escorting the underwater mining team." Krizia reported.
Arlan tapped his fingers on the table while rubbing his chin. This was something he would unconsciously do when he was in deep thought. "Send three more ships to escort the underwater mining team. There has to be at least 1000 navy personnel guarding them. Also, train more workers to use the equipment…Never mind, I'll deal with the Navy. You go and ask the human resource department to post a hiring notice for underwater miners."
"Yes, boss!" Krizia nodded her head.
"You can go now." Arlan waved his hand.
Krizia bowed to him and left the office. Meanwhile, Arlan sorted the documents on his table before he went out of his office. He then rode on a flying car towards the Poseidon 001, the strongest battleship of the base.
Arlan informed Rear Admiral Fuliand that he would visit him. The ship wasn't that far from the base since its main task was to secure the Pacific Ocean. The ocean was more dangerous now with the emergence of the evolved marine creatures. Other than rescuing stranded civilians, the navy was also responsible for observing the ocean. If any threatening creature would come near the base, they would eliminate them immediately.
When the flying car landed, Arlan stepped out of the vehicle.
"Greetings, boss!" Rear Admiral Fuliand saluted. The officers behind him also saluted Arlan.
Arlan smiled at them. "How are you guys? Is everything going well here?"
Rear Admiral Fuliand let out a faint smile. "There have been more sightings of evolved marine creatures, but everything is still under our control. You don't have to worry, boss."
"That's good to hear." Suddenly, Arlan's face turned serious. "I still have to go somewhere so I'll make this quick. Admiral, I need three more ships to escort the underwater mining team and there should be at least 1000 personnel protecting them. The raw materials for our military equipment are about to hit critical levels so we have to gather more to prevent the shortage of these equipment."
"I see." Rear Admiral Fuliand took in a deep breath. "Alright. I'll send three ships and 1000 navy personnel to escort the mining team."
"Great!" Arlan's face blossomed into a smile upon hearing this.
