Chapter 224 Clue About the Hidden Civilization
The next day, Arlan received a report from Cedrick through a video call. It was about the movements of the agents sent by the US.
"Boss, what do you want us to do?" Cedrick asked in a cold voice. If Arlan wanted to, he was willing to lead a team to kill those agents!
"There's no rush. It doesn't seem like they have any bad intentions. Just let them be for now." Arlan shook his head. There was no need to eliminate those agents.
Cedrick nodded his head upon hearing this.
"Have you informed the president about this?" Arlan asked.
"Not yet." Cedrick shook his head. "I will inform him about this later."
"Make sure that he won't do anything reckless. It would be unwise to provoke the US at this moment." Arlan warned in a serious tone. Although Manuel Chavez was a good leader, he was a very emotional person. Arlan was worried that he might do something rash.
"Don't worry, boss. I'll keep an eye on him." Cedrick solemnly said.
"Good. If something happens, don't hesitate to give me a call." Arlan disconnected the call after saying this.
He wasn't worried that the US agents would find something that would be traced back to him. The only thing connected to him in the settlement were the soldiers, but all of them were his loyal supporters. They will never betray him. Cedrick and Conrad were also there to keep everything in check.
After the call, Arlan went to Winter's office. He knocked on her door before he entered.
Upon entering, he saw Winter sitting behind her desk. She was looking at the screen of her computer.
Arlan didn't disturb her. He just quietly took a seat in front of her and waited for her to notice him.
While adjusting his posture, Arlan turned his gaze towards Winter. She looked focused on whatever she was doing.
As if noticing his gaze, Winter raised her head. "What do you want?" She uttered in a cold voice.
"How is your investigation going?" Arlan asked. Recently, Arlan gave him another task. It was to gather more clues about the hidden civilization. He knew that it was still early to do this, but Arlan wanted to be prepared in case they made another move.
Hearing this, Winter stopped what she was doing and adjusted her posture. She then shook her head and replied. "I searched for their traces from the countries all around the world, but I only found three footages that may be related to them." While saying this, she pulled her drawer and grabbed a laptop lying inside. She turned it on and opened a folder. There were three files inside this folder and all of them were video recordings. She clicked one of the videos and showed it to Arlan.
"This happened in Turkey before the zombie outbreak." Winter said.
Arlan furrowed his eyebrows as he watched the video recording.
It showed a person wearing a doctor's uniform walking in the corridor of a hospital. He was holding onto a briefcase. He looked very suspicious because he seemed to be conscious of his surroundings. When there was no one else in the corridor, he put down the briefcase and left.
Winter fast-forwarded the video. She then played it again when the briefcase started to emit a green gas.
At first, no one noticed the briefcase, but soon, some of the hospital staff took notice of it. They seemed worried when they saw the green gas coming out from the briefcase so they asked the people to vacate the corridor. After some time, professionals dressed in full-body medical suits came to inspect the briefcase. There were also police officers and a bomb squad at the scene. Perhaps, people thought that there was an explosive inside the briefcase so they called the bomb squad for help.
The people dressed in medical suits inspected the briefcase. They showed no reaction whatsoever so everyone believed that the briefcase didn't have anything harmful inside. However, when the police officers came to inspect it, they came into contact with the green gas and this was when everything started to turn for the worst.
The police officers who inhaled the green gas convulsed as if they were an epileptic patient. A minute later, the veins on their faces protruded and they emitted weird growl-like sounds. When someone came to inspect their situation, they suddenly attacked whoever came close to them.
"Zombies?" Arlan muttered in a stern voice.
Winter nodded her head. "That's right. This recording has already been deleted and I only managed to recover it recently. I believe that the person on the recording was someone from the hidden civilization."
Arlan agreed with her words. He also reached this conclusion after seeing the video. "What about the other recordings?" He asked.
"The contents are the same, but they happened in different places. I tried to discover the identity of the people who brought the virus, but there were no records of them. Though, I noticed something similar about these people." Winter said as she opened another folder. There were photos inside this folder.
There were only three photos. Arlan was familiar with the person in the first photo. It was the guy on the recording who left the briefcase.
"Look at this carefully." Winter clicked the first photo and zoomed it in. "Look at his hands. Do you see that?"
Arlan was stunned when he saw the webbed fingers that resembled those of marine animals. "That…"
Winter clicked on the other photos that showed similar characteristics. "All three of them have the same characteristics. I'm guessing that the hidden civilization might be in the ocean…"
Arlan took a deep breath when he heard this.
"We can send some unmanned submarines to investigate the ocean. I don't know where they are hidden specifically so we can only investigate slowly. First, I suggest that we send a submarine to the depths of the Pacific. It's the largest ocean and also the deepest." Winter suggested.
Arlan pondered deeply for a moment before shaking his head. "We can't. They might be alarmed if we start to investigate the ocean. Let's focus on creating an antidote for the virus."
Winter stared deeply at him and nodded her head. "Alright."
