Chapter 42 - 42 The New Director
42 The New Director
Not only did Cheng Lang use that building to make an example out of others, but he also used this opportunity to revamp the company’s management. Xing Shu had always known that Cheng Lang was formidable, but this incident succinctly showed her just how formidable he was. Formidability aside, Cheng Lang’s ability to put himself in the shoes of others and view things through the lens of ordinary employees was even more significant. No wonder he had a god-like moniker.
Xing Shu’s phone suddenly rang—President Chen from Lirong Corporation. The big shuffle in Cheng Corporation Group had caused quite a stir, so it was natural that President Chen had heard about it. He asked joyously, “Miss Xing Shu, is congratulations in order?”
Cheng Xingyang had been removed as the Director. Although nobody in M&A knew who the new director would be, President Chen—who had been privy to the news previously—was eager to show his merriment at the first chance.
Xing Shu smiled. “I’ll sign the contract officially with you on Monday.”
President Chen replied, “I look forward to it.”
Xing Shu heaved a sigh of relief after she ended the call. Cheng Gang and Cheng Xingyang had their hands full at the moment and would not have time to bother with her. It would be a long while before they would find trouble with her.
…
Dressed in a black power suit, Xing Shu found the entire Cheng Corporation Group building enveloped in a tense atmosphere when she turned up for work on Monday. The memo was very clear—a large portion of the employees would be dismissed.
M&A was shrouded in the tense atmosphere too, especially Hu Jie who had just been promoted to Manager a few days ago. She felt uneasy.
“Who do you think the new Director is this time? Cheng Xingyang was removed despite his solid background. The new Director’s background must be even more solid, right?”
“I heard that a few staff from Marketing left today. Those senior management must be tucking their tails between their legs. Whoever became the Director during this time might be someone handpicked by President Cheng.”
Handpicked by President Cheng? Hu Jie’s eyes filled with disdain at hearing this. “Stop flattering the new Director. Do you think Cheng Xingyang is so easy to get rid of? He’s President Cheng’s nephew. No matter how solid the new Director’s background is, can he beat a member of the Cheng family? Cheng Xingyang will probably just be suspended for a few days and be back soon.”
Everyone agreed—no matter what, Cheng Xingyang was still a member of the Cheng family and would not be removed from his position so easily.
Just then, the door of the M&A Department was pushed open. Everyone was surprised to see Xing Shu standing at the door. Hu Jie was the first to react. “Xing Shu, what are you doing here? I asked you for the prospectus of Lirong Corporation, but you refused. Why? Are you regretting it now?”
Xing Shu was holding a few documents—the prospectus of Lirong Corporation included—in her hand. She opened the door and surveyed the department, before smiling and walking towards the Director’s office. Before she could open the door, Hu Jie stood in front of her. “Xing Shu, I asked you a question! You’re too arrogant! You’ve already been fired and are no longer a staff of M&A. Please leave. Otherwise, I’ll call security.”
Nobody intervened. Everybody did not like Xing Shu because she was not tactful. They were happy to keep their nose out of it and eager to watch the catfight.
Xing Shu glanced at Hu Jie and realized that she was well-dressed today. She probably wanted to give the new Director a good impression. Unfortunately, her efforts were in vain.
Xing Shu said, “Ms. Hu, get ready. We’re meeting with President Chen later.”
Hu Jie’s face darkened. “Xing Shu, what do you mean? What right do you have to give me orders?”
The resentment was felt by the others as well. Sauntering into the office during office hours, did Xing Shu think the security of Cheng Corporation Group was just for show?
Xing Shu pushed open the door of the Director’s office. “Because I’m the Director of M&A now. Of course, I have the right to issue orders to you.”
Hu Jie sneered. “Xing Shu, your brain must be fried!” Cheng Xingyang had been fired. How could Xing Shu—the unpopular fiancée—still stay in the company?
“I want to see Lirong Corporation’s bid process letter in five minutes.” Xing Shu then slammed the door shut. Standing so near to the door, Hu Jie’s nose was nearly caught by it.
Everyone began whispering to each other at Xing Shu’s words, “Has Xing Shu lost her mind? How dare she say such things?”
“But from the looks of it, it doesn’t seem bogus.”
