Chapter 146: You Are Still a System Host
“What…the heck just happened?” All Compass Carburettor could do was sit in a daze, wondering what had happened as he recalled the scenes that had transpired.
A tremendously powerful System that was able to immobilise him just from words alone had appeared. And worst of all, he had occupied its home.
And this Permanence System had created a bridge to an alternate universe with the intention of obtaining some sort of secretive power from there to become a Grade 2 System and beyond.
Unfortunately for it, a scary entity from the other side destroyed it, used his abilities as a System Slayer to refine it, permanently ensuring that it would never be able to revive. And all its knowledge was lost as a result, preventing any other Systems from being able to repeat its actions in the future.
‘But, in an instant, it seemed he was able to go through all my memories and obtain the knowledge of everything I know. How is this possible?’ Compass Carburettor failed to think of an answer, sighing as he got up, ‘No matter what, it’s beyond my hands. I should head somewhere else.’
“And…” He observed the new Arms he had obtained, the System Fragment containing the ability of Permanence. “This is pretty amazing. And, I obtained it just for the reason that I was there when that entity killed the Permanence System.”
“Still, what was he talking about the idiot behind me? And what did he mean by his story?” He shook his head, unable to make heads or tails of the situation, “No matter, I’ll just focus on what I can do for the time being and grow stronger first. With enough strength, all secrets would lay bare before me.”
While he was running, all the details related to the System Fragment of Permanence streamed through his mind. But since he was preoccupied, he wasn’t able to digest them properly. ‘I’ll go through them later.’
Relying upon his danger sense, he picked the direction in which he felt the respective System was on the same level as the Slave Harem System, “I should pick my opponents wisely. If I feel its abilities aren’t suitable for me, I won’t follow it into its world.”
But right as he thought of that, he noticed that the speed of his running was beginning to slow down, alarming him when his danger sense ticked off once again, alarming him, “Now what?”
He barely managed to react when his body stopped automatically. For, standing a hundred metres before him, one that had hidden its presence all along was a familiar Deer System that he had seen at the before.
And now, upon seeing him, it calmly hopped through the path, landing before him as it spoke, “Great, it seems you haven’t left the System World yet. Thankfully, I found you before that.”
Upon seeing how afraid Compass Carburettor was upon seeing it, the Deer System thought for a moment before realising something, retracting its presence before speaking, “I’m sorry! I never thought you would be this affected by me. Or rather, it seems the part of the System’s body in you is what is afraid of me.”
With its presence gone, Compass Carburettor was able to breathe normally once again. And now, he noticed that he was unable to sense any danger from the other party, realising something, ‘So, stronger Systems can mask their presence. My danger sense isn’t entirely reliable. I should have known. I have been reckless.’
He sighed, then recalling the words spoken by the Deer System as he thought of something, saying, “Do you have a reason to approach me? Sir…Dear System?”
“Hahaha,” The Deer System laughed before introducing itself, “I’m the Coincidental Luck System. You can address me the same. Anyway, I was searching for you to establish a trade relationship with.”
“Establish a trade relation?” Compass Carburettor was surprised, never having expected something like that from a System, that too from an existence that could squash him like a bug.
“Remember my name?” It laughed, “So, when I met you previously through coincidence, I sensed that your existence is beneficial to me. So, I was digging up a bit of information on you. Are you interested?”
“I’ll be lying if I say otherwise,” Compass Carburettor nodded, asking with a hint of wariness, “But, what is it that you want from me?”
“Hmm, that’ll take some time to explain.” The Coincidental Luck System thought for a minute before it motioned for him to follow it, “We’ll head towards that place of anomaly where you obtained benefits from luck.”
“How…did you know it?” Even though he could take a guess, Compass Carburettor wished to probe upon seeing that the other party seemed to have deeper intentions about him. No matter what, even if all he got were small clues, it’ll allow him to piece together more concrete information.
“Well, I was searching for you. And coincidentally, I noticed the Permanence System looking like it was about to do something. So, I masked my presence and followed it from afar. As its senses were weakened due to stuffing its body with the Core Skills of countless Systems, it hadn’t managed to sense my existence.” The Coincidental Luck System said.
“Thankfully, it seems the guy from the alternate universe doesn’t wish to interact with us. Otherwise, given his powers…” It didn’t seem willing to talk about it any further, chuckling a bit before saying, “Well, let’s talk about our trade, shall we?”
“I want you to hunt some Systems.”
“Hunt Systems?” Compass Carburettor was surprised, asking, “But, I thought all Systems despised System Slayers and wished to eradicate us immediately upon sight.”
“Hahaha! You are absolutely wrong about that.” The Coincidental Luck System laughed, unable to maintain its poker face any longer, “Only the Hatchling Systems share that sentiment. For those at the peak of Grade 1 like me, System Slayers are of no concern. Besides, it’s not like there are enough System Slayers around to be a threat to the majority of the Systems in the first place.”
“But, isn’t it pretty easy to increase our numbers?” Compass Carburettor said, feeling like there was something that the Coincidental Luck System knew that was of prime importance. So, he didn’t beat about the bush and simply argued, intending to unearth the said information, “All I need to do is find a System that returned here and…”
“And, I’m telling you, things aren’t that simple.” It laughed, stating a simple fact, “Remember this fact: This is the System World. And, only a System can be here and in extension, a System Host. In actuality, there isn’t anything termed as the System Slayers in the first place.”
“You are still a System Host.”
