Chapter 738

Chapter 738: Escaped but Critically Injured

‘Shit! Shit! Shit! She’s on a whole other level.’ Compass Carburettor expressed his worry as he tied a cloth around his legs, stopping the bleeding to a certain extent. He was seated inside a submarine that he created using Mental Fragments sourced from fish.

The turbines on its back rotated at terrifying speeds, causing them to push through the waters at a consistent pace. It was fully mechanical though as seated before him was the hulking four-metre-tall Human Invoked Spirit, pedalling nonstop.

Through a set of gears, the torque produced was converted to deliver more thrust in the turbines. And as the mechanical power unleashed by the Invoked Spirit was terrifying, it was possible to sail at such speeds, and at alarming depths in fact.

Upon seeing Peika continue to chase after him and even gradually gain distance, Compass Carburettor gritted his teeth and sat within the submarine’s armoury, taking a seat in the weapons compartment as he aimed at Peika and pressed the trigger.

There was a tiny cone attached to a torpedo-shaped arrow that was launched upon the press of a trigger, booming towards Peika who quickly dodged the attack.

But in response, Compass Carburettor smiled, activating it as the cone attached to it exploded, resulting in a wave of mist that enveloped her, stalling her Invoked Spirit for a couple of seconds. During this time, the submarine gained some more depth.

Moreover, the moment Peika was caught under the effects of the mist, Compass Carburettor unleashed a dozen more torpedoes, intending to stall her for at least a minute. That was the most he could expect, given his current powers.

And even that was helpful, for he was facing a terrifying Ascender that was capable of killing him in one hit. Moreover, no matter how he attacked her, he was unable to breach the water barrier covering her, failing to even scratch her until now.

Boom!

Duketace and Kowla rushed into the water and detonated all the Eagle Bombs in their arsenal, creating a gigantic cover of mist as they swam deeper underwater. The submarine too surfaced a little before bringing them inside.

Following that, it began to go deeper into the sea waters, gradually entering the depths where light couldn’t reach.

Boom!

Waves of water whooshed out as all the mist was consumed. Peika stared at her surroundings, failing to find any traces of Pilkan and the rest. She then stared at the surface nearby, spotting a dissipating mist there amidst which were her three underlings, struggling as they gradually made their way out of the mist.

The mist dissipated soon after as Peika surfaced, staring at the trio, “What happened? How did you fail to catch them?”

“This mist hindered us every time we tried to do so, my Lady.” The woman among the trio spoke using sign language, pointing at the dissipating mist, “When we were trapped here, those two used the chance to dive deep into the water where that massive object swallowed them and vanished.”

‘So, they headed into the depths of the ocean. This is one troublesome opponent.’ Peika expressed momentary anger before motioning for the trio to follow her. Her Invoked Spirit carried them as they arrived at the island to interrogate the four sailors there.

Following that, she executed them, fed their bodies to the fish and began to make her way towards Wakttark City.

“My Lady, it’s impossible to find any traces of them now. What should we do?” The woman among the trio asked, “We can’t tell the Lan Clan Head that we failed. That wouldn’t be good for our reputation, especially since you wish to control the Lan Clan in the future.”

“Our opponent is an old monster that had once been an Ascender or even more.” Peika said, “So, it’s hard to kill such an individual that focuses solely on escaping. Anyway, I crippled his legs. So, that body is useless to him now. Changing bodies will consume too much of his power, leading to less time for building up his strength.”

“And he’ll definitely come to the Human Conjurer’s grave.” Her eyes turned sharp, “At that time, I’ll deal with him. Somehow, he’s obtained control over the Bottom Mist Valley’s mysterious mist. So, he’s dangerous.”

When the Human Conjurer’s Grave opened for the first time eight years ago, only its outer world was accessible and only Invokers were permitted entry.

And a decade later when its inner world would open up, even Ascenders would be able to enter. Moreover, that was when its true treasures would surface. A Conjurer’s Grave contained practically all their lifetime’s accumulations.

Techniques, Scrolls, Conjured Tools, mysterious powers, etc. It was in the Human Conjurer’s Grave that Peika obtained her power of the mysterious water and became a terrifying Human Invoker, gaining enough knowledge and resources to become an Ascender.

And when the inner world opens, the Human Conjurer’s deepest secrets and information regarding becoming a Conjurer would be open. And hence, practically all the Ascenders that had been in hiding had begun to make their moves, finding the best candidates to possess and quickly reach the Ascender Stage.

Many cases similar to Pilkan already cropped up as Peika was aware of a lot more details than what even Clan Leaders were privy towards. No Ascender would be able to pass on the opportunity to become a Conjurer and become the pinnacle existence of this world.

And hence, she was assured that Pilkan too would be there, “And when that happens, I’ll steal your mist, just you wait.”

Her Human Invoked Spirit ran underwater, quickly reaching the mainland before which they boarded an eagle carriage to return to Wakttark City.

The eagle carriage was manned by eight Invokers of the Lan Clan, using their Invoked Spirits to carry the carriage within which Peika and her three subordinates sat comfortably. After they allied, the higher-ups of the Lan Clan finally learned of Peika’s existence.

And since they originally wished to establish an assassin group of Human Invokers, they were rather happy to accept her. After all, she was an Ascender. This one fact allowed them to retain the Forbidden Tale and taste its benefits already.

In the meantime, Pilkan tried his best to not faint, having lost too much blood for comfort as he continued to drive the submarine forward.
